I've cut so many of these but none cut like this uncut gem!

- The color bar looks promising, and my goal is to reveal some stunning crystal opals. However, the twists and turns of opal cutting can’t be underestimated-you never truly know what you'll uncover until the wheel starts turning.

Justin, I think as a viewer we have a love and hate relationship, you are like a drug dealer, your drug is opal and we are completely addicted we can't get enough thank you so much for your craftsmanship your patience and the true beauty that comes out in your work the beauty that you take out of the stones is incredible we thank you so much for what you do great love and appreciation from Costa Rica keep up the good work my friend it's truly amazing
Nice crystals, Justin
So true! Just not the "hate" part, at least not towards Justin (although maybe too the fact, I can't afford his great craftsmanship 😉!😂) - addicted to it - yessss! ❤
So, so true 😂
We going in? I so look forward to your videos Justin, thanks for showing off your skills for us to enjoy.
I love how you narrate with the music and entertain us with the whole Opal cutting process, while making it fun to watch. It's also amazingly educational. Keep up your great work and play. ❤
You know what I ❤ the absolute most, you take us through the whole process, it can feel like you're the one cutting the stones. Thank you for these journies.
We know not every Opal can be a black Opal! So when you get beautiful crystals out of what you thought it could be, it's still a winner in my book! Good job. ✌️😊
that color was incredible. It looked like blue ice. as always, a pleasure to watch and something to learn. Thanks Justin.
Thank you Justin for sharing this with me ! I'm sorry that they didn't face the way you thought they would but they're still beautiful crystal Opals !
Justin, you are THE master opal cutter. I thought that you might have tried to get three stones, but always respect, and defer to your judgment.
Justin, I watch around 4 or 5 of your videos per day and they never get old! I'm a bit of a rock hound too and am almost where I need to be to buy my first Cab King and polishing wheel! I'm not ready for opal yet but I am about to cut a lot of emerald, ruby, aquamarine, citrine and tourmaline that we mined in Tennessee a few years back. If I can learn my way through all of them then I will be ready to buy my first opal parcel I think. Thanks for all you share!
🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for being such an avid viewer, good luck with your cutting! Looking forward to seeing your name pop up when you purchase your first opal parcel.
Justin im a loooong time fan and just wanted to say because of u i am a proud opal owner😂😂 i dont cut i just keep them for my own admiration. My dream is to buy 1 of ur cut opals for my wedding ring. I love u guys so much and to have it would be an honor in my life. Thankyu and ur team for everything you do l!
Be careful, opals do not take every day wear well because they're a softer stone. It would also be more porous and absorb fluids that might either dull the surface or stain the stone. Your jeweler will be able to give you more information about the pros and cons of wearing opal rings every day. I'm hoping that you can find an answer that will work for you 😊.
One thing i've learned about cutting gemstones is that sometimes They want to be beautiful in their own way.😊
We humans try to replicate opals but we never get there because mother nature just has way more variety and beauty. Beautiful job!
I've never seen flagstone pattern like that before! ❤️ I instantly thought "crushed ice" some reason. These are stunning pieces. ❤️❤️❤️
There is something just so magical about Opal. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Our pleasure!
Nobody could of done better. Thats why your the master and we are all your pupils thank you Justin
I’m so glad that wasn’t an expensive mistake just a humbling experience! They turned out beautiful! ❤
Two beautiful stones.
Love watching these videos.
Thank you Justin and team.
😎😎😎👍👍👍
Love to the Family!
Good on ya Saxon! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That close up at the end was everything!
So good! And thank you for the editing. It was more fluid and I could really focus on the process.
You're so welcome!
Your a good teacher, I love watching
I've always had a passion for sharpening knives I didn't realize how well that skill would translate into such a thing as this but after watching your videos I realize I have all the tools in the house to do some hand polishing... And I just bought a few pieces to practice with for 50 bucks... Let's see if I'm good enough... Discovered your videos yesterday while looking how to identify certain stones and I became addicted to watching you rub rub rub rub.. I now have a new hobby that will probably change my life I looked all the way back at your earlier videos.. time to learn from the best
Beautiful ❤. Another great video from a master ☺️
My heart sank. So glad it turned out ok
This channel deserves 1 millions subs..
Tell your friends and family people!
Hiya Justin, awesome video and beautiful stones. They both came out beautifully.
I hope you and your family, has a awesome blessed day. Cheers! Cya!
😺🐟 out!
Thank you! You too!
I love the informative tidbits you add in, like what it means to "face" an opal, etc! Also, I really liked the music at the final opal reveal 👍 Keep up the great work BOD team!
Awesome! Thank you!
100% agree to cut it. Was a no brainer in my opinion! They turned out amazing!
great opals out of one stone and good color for crystal opal thank you for sharing the adventure and information
Opals make my heart happy. I simply find them amazing.
Oh my. Those turned out beautiful.
Love to watch your videos Justin and i do love opals too! We learn as long as we live too, life isn't a smooth ride. You do magic Justin 👋💎👍, greetings to you all at BOD!
Opals are my favorite gem, always have been.
Absolutely stunning gems!! Fantastic job!
That play of color is amazing! Excellent work? I couldn’t help but wonder what if those crystals were on black potch they probably would have been 20 k stones! I still think they are beautiful and love how no two opals are alike! I look at diamonds on people’s wedding bands and think to myself that they’re are millions of stones just alike! For this reason I choose opals to express my love for my wife because it’s one of a kind ❤Thanks Justin you have a forever fan and I refuse to miss your content!
I'm not one for wearing stones, but opals would truly make for a magnificent display in a case. Beyond holding for savings, I understand how marvelous they are to look at considering all that went into the process of creation. Opals are truly a beautiful geological fingerprint.
Wow! I like them more than I thought I would! Just gorgeous 😍
And again you got the best out of the rough opal. The finished gems are lovely.
I took a trip to Australia over 10 years ago, and it was a beautiful experience. I'd love to come back for a longer stay. And thanks btw 😝Watching your videos makes me want to try my hand, and I'm not sure I'll ever have the opportunity
Well, Justin, I'm no opal cutter but it seemed to me that cutting from the other side was more prudent because the color was bright and right near the top. Going at it from the white sand side required cutting through a LOT of potch plus the white sand just to get to the color. But you proved me wrong. What I learned is that you can't really screw up on crystal. I found I prefer it be faced on both sides so that only the color bar remains. When you decided to cut both sides you created a crystal opal cut, polished double sided and it is beautiful. I don't think you can get that beautiful 3d depth of color if one side has potch backing. I MUCH prefer the double sided crystal. They may not be as valuable as black opal but in my mind that is subjective because double sided crystal opal is beautiful and one could get lost in another world staring into its magic depths. I love the crystal opal in all its majesty. That stone was destined to be cut on both sides. You made no mistake. You did a great job!
Woo Hoo We’re going in ! ! ! ! ❤
These may not be Top Gems but I love those colours
Lord please in my next life could I please be an Australian Opal miner and cutter.😂✌️♥️
Thank you for sharing your artistry and those 2 beautiful gems.
This gem tested you Justin. Ah a challenge keeps work interesting. End result was a nice gem, ripper! Thanks Justin and Black Opal Direct for sharing this video.......until next week......
Thank you 😊
Always wonderful and amazing.😊
Beautiful, you make it look so easy
Wow...that was a tricky stone. I loved the drama. You just never know. I guess if we stop learning, life is over. LOL Every stone teaches us. Well done, sir!
Hello Justin.. There were 2 beautiful stones😍. I think there is no algorithm for opal😅 It is an incredibly beautiful variety. Thank you for your work, you are a virtual mentor for me😊 Greetings from Switzerland
Yes, absolutely
Hello, it’s 6:06 in the video and you just asked should I cut it? I’m not a jeweler, but I think you should cut it and try to make a pair of matching stones his and hers. Now I’m gonna go back and watch the rest.
The two stones turned out beautifully. I think that his and her rings would be really nice.
Thank you for letting us peek over your shoulder and watch you work.
to me, i think 3 would have made sense, pillow on the left, dome right, teardrop center
Gotta love a good jelly opal.
Have a ripper Justin and stay safe!
Slice it! Once again - beautiful results!
Justin, in the beginning I thought it would really colorful yet you turned a nice two nice opals 🎉🎉
Beautiful crystals!
Here we go😁
Yes! Go for it
Amazing stones!
Very pretty!
I love opal and I’d actually love to have a big oval pendant of polished potch - I think it would be beautiful and perhaps I’d even start a trend, which would be great for the industry - lol
Always love to watch you shape oval. Best to you and your lovely family Justin ❤
Gorgeous!
They turned out nice anyway mate.
Not a fan of crystal opal myself, unless they have reds, purples and oranges.
Justin, there will be a refractive index available with a Lazer light like your torch and this data from refractive index of how the colours refract and the associated lux for each refracted colour should be able to indicate the optimal side of the Opal to cut.
Very pretty!
I love them 😮
Good stuff! They came out of the earth but the Lord made them. Blessings.
Thank you beautiful sounds.
I know how this turns out, because I subscribe to Black Opal Direct Gems.
LOL
If you did start cutting from the other side would the final value be any higher?
Personally I would try to keep it on one lump, but you have far more experience and can really look at the stone and study it. Great outcome 2x👍 They would make a beutiful pendant and ring.
It works be nice to see the final results just a little longer!
I wish you could do one big heart!!! I’m sure there’s not that much of use for it but as a mom to in October baby who loves Opal, I think it’s so pretty if I could afford to buy one I would!!
The title is awesome 😂
Looks like the galaxy😊
Just beautiful.
Thank you very much!
Yes! 2 stones for earrings!
Yes
Beautiful
What is the yellow I keep seeing? So clear from any Opal I've watched you cut. Gorgeous!!
No matter how great you are at your craft every day is still a school day.
Beautiful result though 👍
I like that they are a little transparent.
Wow 😳 😊
Gosh I love your videos!
Thank you 🙏
Yeah the colour was better on the other side, but I don't think you cut it wrong in the end, the potch wasn't dark or consistent enough to face a dark opel, so it was gonna be crystals whichever side you cut first 😉
2 stones ❤
Brother if we're not learning something new each day We be dead! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🤟🏼🤙🏼🖖🏼🇳🇿
yes
Interesting specimens, I’d like to see them again through the gem torch just to see through them again after polishing, may give the viewed the define silica with the pattern. 👍 still great quality for 3k!
thx to make me learn !
wow 40seconds old
yes probably best to slice it if the potch dips in the middle
like the yellow tinge in the potch or is that just the lighting ?
How thick of a color bar do you need to do a double sided opal? Great video Justin😊
And sometimes you get a piece of Mintabie and it faces outwards and both sides stink lol (from experience trust me !)
So give Saxon some of the more expensive stones to learn by making the same mistakes that taught you, Justin! 😃
What a save. Thanks for taking us along 👍.
So if I understand correctly the "color" is actually Braggs reflection of light off clear stone that's kinda like glass. God is amazing and he gave us science to brag
I think 2 stones, but your the expert
Have you ever thought to have one of your stones cut like a diamond? Has this ever been done? I am curious if it would add dimension to the opal. Just a thought I had. 🤷♀️
I was like "NOOOO, you're cutting the wrong side" through my screen.😅LOL Oh well, it's beautiful anyways!
Would make beautiful pendants.
