Breaking the Fast with Dates is not compulsory but it is a Sunnah ( it is preferred if you could break with Dates ) otherwise whatever available to you break with it .
2. Praying for men and women is obligatory. Men must pray at Mosque and Women must pray at Home ( if women were outside of homes they can pray at Masjid but in a separate section again for women praying at Home is more rewardable .

Opening fast with dates has scientific reason.
Hadees says open fast with sweet thing it help brain functioning
Second, it's sunnati of Rasool Allah sallallahu alaihi wasallam
