Chris, the mechanic, deserves kudos for the care he put into your Jeep. I love mechanics who care about the vehicles they work on. Organization is a huge part of overland camping and I love it. There's always another product out there that can offer improvement but even $4.88 milk crates (stackable) from Walmart are great if you're on a tight budget.
Awesome, hope the equipment adds to Chris's adventures. Wondering why he doesn't have a set of max tracks or traction devices? Seems like snow wheeling and the mud episode down in Big Bend could have used them. Especially when there was nothing to winch to.
I would suggest taking the context of that arb tire repair kit out of that box and putting them in a nice pouch. That box just takes up too much room in that cargo storage space, at least that's what I did, I freed up a good amount of space.

That says a lot about his work. Professional. That winch Hecho en Chine? Even Warn probably is. It block radiator, wonder if it hurt cooling. Anything named "Bubba" has to be good.

No one should ever use a bow shackle between two recovery straps. Bow shackles are best suited to connect the tow strap to the recovery point. You need two recovery blankets, one at one car and one at the other.
Loved all the new gear and upgrades. One thing I noticed after adding winch is at low speeds my fan seems to run more, I'm guessing from the grill being blocked. Tell me if you notice the same problem. Can't wait for your next chapter.
Great video. Any idea if the anti rhino poaching sticker is associated with Rhino armour products? Was surprised to see it on the back of the truck when u were talking winches. Looking to get one for my Tacoma as I am running an ultra marathon in Africa next year for rhino conservation.
Bad tires ! Buy for example Cooper SST . Tires is the most imported things on the Jeep . You can put tons of gears in the Jeep but if you dont have reel tires you dont get anywhere ! I know. I have been driving Jeeps for over 40 years . All depense on the tires. You can have all kinds of engines and horsepowers but is dosent matter if you cant get in to the ground . I would highly suggest an external box for your Jeep such as an aluminess box to store your recovery gear and tools. I am a strong believer in that things like recovery gear is emergency equipment and should be easily accessible along with tools to repair your vehicle to complete your mission whatever that may be. Just like your spare tire I think an external trash bag is ingenious even though it is covering your spare that you may need to get to one day but that bag is all I would put onto it
Another great watch, I had the same issue with packing recovery kit. I put all the bits in the tyre repair kit into a soft pouch, this helped reduce it size by half and lower its weight.
Another great video, cant wait to watch the rest of the New England exploration (being originally from VT). I would suggest keeping the winch controller underneath your driver seat (on the left side between the seat rail and your door), or another place as easily accessible. That way, when you need it the most, it accessible. Depending on the situation, you may not be able to open the back or un stow your gear.

You are gonna love that ARB Twin compressor. Put one on my 4Runner a couple years back. Takes about 55 seconds to go from 20 psi to 35 on my KO2 33s. One drawback is the hose port is on top and can gather dust and stuff easily. Wits End makes a nice little plug that snaps in to prevent intrusion and blockage. Cheap insurance.
I know that this comment is late to the party, but you don't need the recovery blanket anymore now that you have synthetic winch line. Synthetic line doesn't store energy, so when it breaks, it drops straight to the ground, unlike steel cable that stores all energy and can decapitate someone. More weight reduction!
Looking good Chris, the winch fits well on that stock bumper with the new lights. I'd find a place up front for the winch control within reach of the driver. Also one of the nylon couplings up front also wouldn't hurt. Just a thought. Do you have any lockers, I can't remember? Russ

those ammo boxes have holes that will let in ran and stuff. I have seen more than one video about the ARB compressors burning out (don't know how durable). I just ordered a Viair compressor for my truck.
Make sure you keep a receipt for that ARB compressor. I'm so disappointed with mine. I think I used it 15 times and it broke. ARB is suppose to send me the part

Recovery gear should be easily accessible. Particularly the winch controller which should be in the cab and reachable from the driver’s seat. Experience will teach you that.
@@1111Overland , He's never needed a winch before because he has always avoided situations where he might need one (which was smart because he didn't have a winch). Putting his recovery gear in a hatch under all of his other equipment just makes using it that much harder to get to. Let's say that he gets stuck in a long, muddy double track and needs to self recover. He'll have to unload everything in order to get to the gear. Messy at best and unnecessarily laborious. He doesn't do any real rock crawling so needing the winch controller handy probably won't be an issue either but we're talking best practices here. He's by himself 99.9% of the time. Why add a layer of complexity?

Easy access is the smart move regardless of how you use it. What if you come across someone else who has no recovery gear or winch and they need help? I sure wouldn't want to have to unload my entire vehicle just to get to my gear. You could be hooked up and done pulling them out in the time it would take to unpack.
You won’t have to worry about that synthetic rope becoming a projectile. That’s one advantage of synthetic. You shouldn’t even need a weight bag though it doesn’t hurt.
Hope you’re ok with air flow to the jeep with the winch I put an warm power plant on mine & temp went up little too much for me had to go with the low profile model 🚙
Just keep a eye on ur engine temps ur blocking alot grille there. Jeep looks good. Also if u want ur air compressor to last keep the engine running when airing the tires up to keep the voltage up.

Chris, I'm curious if the amount of grill that your new winch covers will have any impact on your Jeeps ability to cool the engine. Can you report back if (or if not) you experience any overheating that you think might be related to the winch obstructing the air flow to the engine? It's my understanding that the JK's have a propensity to run hot, and that the side vents that Jeep added to the new JL were related to this issue. My wife has a 2012 JK Sahara and I have a 2018 JL Sahara so we are defiantly 'Jeep people'. As always, love your channel and the content that you put out, I find your weekly videos to be very relaxing and enjoyable to watch.
Great job, Great toy... also, Chris, I noticed on one of the 4X4 shows I think you showed... had a pop-up camper on a rig and there was a long bungee type cord running horizontally around the tent portion about halfway up the canvas on the outside for the purpose of pulling in the tent when you collapse the top for travel so you don't have to push it in with your arms before bringing down the top portion. Perhaps you could add a Bungie to yours for the same purpose!

My only concern with the winch would be that it blocks the air flow to the engine on hot days when you are driving for long period of time. Keep an eye out for your engine heat - hopefully it won't be an issue :)

Great info on new recovery gear. There's a video out in wich cable snaps going thru the cab of a Jeep injurying the driver. The driver had a shattered jaw. Safety is very important.

Congrats, you've got new toyz... Side 2: as a suggestion, you may want to consider adding a second battery. For use as a primary for the Compressor, Refrigerator and the Winch, plus anything else you may install in the future. BTW, are you alright after slipping off the bumper?... As much as you go off pavement with that thing you should be crawling underneath on a regular basic to check for things like loose bolts. You should have discovered that long ago.

I like that you don’t abuse your Jeep. We have the same philosophy, to have a fun adventure without destroying the land or equipment.

It's about time !
My only concern with the winch would be that it blocks the air flow to the engine on hot days when you are driving for long period of time. Keep an eye out for your engine heat - hopefully it won't be an issue :)

@@Ferda1964 Havent made a decision yet. They will be 285/70r17 as I drive this Jeep 19k+ and dont want to pay a fortune in fuel lol. I will be doing this in March. I will let you know then if youd like. Cheers!

Great info on new recovery gear. There's a video out in wich cable snaps going thru the cab of a Jeep injurying the driver. The driver had a shattered jaw. Safety is very important.
Tom Maples it was prob metal winch cable and not synthetic.

Side 2: as a suggestion, you may want to consider adding a second battery. For use as a primary for the Compressor, Refrigerator and the Winch, plus anything else you may install in the future.

Its about time you got a winch, I wouldn't think about going off-road alone without one.
As much as you go off pavement with that thing you should be crawling underneath on a regular basic to check for things like loose bolts. You should have discovered that long ago.
Please give us a report if your Jeep runs warmer with the new winch blocking some of the radiator.
