He’s telling himself this. Feeding his ego is a coping and defense mechanism. Most likely he believes if he’s superior than others, then others can’t touch him, won’t try to mess with him, thus, can’t hurt him. He’s so emotionally charged from past pain and mental illness that anything other than positivity (pleasant interactions, experiences, “yes” people, compliments, brief and frequent pleasures, etc) are threats to him and he acts out with arrogance, cockiness, disrespect, aggression, manipulation, etc as an immature attempt of self preservation. He’s in a constant over stimulation of the fight or flight response which is indicative of an exhausted nervous system caused by trauma.

Not evil, just very very angry. I’ve seen true evil people and they don’t share the same look in their eyes or show minute glimpses, that to a degree, they are aware of their actions and emotions. Evil people either have glee in their eyes or nothing behind them. His showed anger which stems from pain.
