In Episode 4 of Kirby Allison's "From Suit to Shoot" TH-cam series, Kirby returns to bespoke tailoring house Henry Poole for his first fitting with Managing Directory Simon Cundey and head cutter Alex Cooke.
The first fitting is called a “basted fitting”, and this is where the various components of the pattern are simply “basted” or loosely sewn together. They say that the first fitting is for the tailor and not the customer. It is when the posture of the client, and how that will affect the overall balance of the garment, is carefully assessed by the cutter. At this stage, it is critical that the jacket is perfectly balanced before proceeding further in the process of construction.

I was just thinking how much Kirby has evolved in his TH-cam journey. He has been exploring the world of quality, craftsmanship and tradition and now his videos are keeping up with what he is actually showing. I have always loved watching his videos but now it is on another level.
This whole series has been a pleasure to watch! Given me so much knowledge as I build up to my 1st tweed jacket soon enough.
Sometimes, there are just no words... This is one of those times. Without doubt, the best series you and your team have ever produced, Kirby! Assomeone who has always been keen on anything sartorial- and throw the shooting into the mix, (I used to shoot competitively) and it encompasses pretty much everything I enjoy!❤

The concept of from nothing to something with everything in-between has been very enjoyable. I've enjoyed learning so much
Alex Cook produced two magnificent 3 piece suits for me at Henry Poole. Friends and sometimes strangers stopped me to inquire where I had purchased them. There is nothing like a bespoke suit and they truly stand out. I remember Alex recommending a 3 piece suite over a 2 piece suite stating that if you take off your jacket, you still look dressed up. The videos bring back many great memories of 15 Saville Row, which hasn't changed in many years, plus the museum pieces and uniforms displayed at the entrance.
I absolutely agree 3 piece suits always. This series is wonderful. There is not like watching something being created.

Excellent video Kirby & team. I'm enjoying this series. It's pitched at a particular audience which is fine. I think it's a great way for some country people who have an interest in this style to get introduced to Kirby and his channel as opposed to the more City focus of some of his normal content.

Such a quite exquisite taste for a great shooting cloth for the suits.
No matter how expensive or inexpensive a suit is, there is a process and tradition that goes along with it.
Started watching to learn more about Purdy guns but am now enthralled with the suit making. Might have to have one made for myself some time. I can't afford the guns anyway.

Maybe its just me, but is anyone else just a tad disappointed that we didn't get to see how Kirby manages his sock/stocking arrangements? I'm not keen to see him in his shorts or anything, but quite how does he keep his socks and/or stockings up so high?

Hi. Back is very good.
Get exactly what you pay for in Bespoke experience/quality. Now you can see the fundamental difference from an off the peg suit and one made by hand. What's worse is suits all used to be made by hand using techniques! Offshoring, labor, and quality have all diminished - but they're charging more for less. Anyway, glad you're showing that this craftsmanship and heritage is still alive.
The handwork can be offshored. But the knowledge, command of the cloth, and experience never will be.
Anyone notice Kirby’s vision laser tracking the hanger he uses to hold his jacket at about 12:25

I don't know when this was filmed, but hunting season doesn't start till September. So either we have to wait a few months, or Kirby already has it. Kirby -- you wear hats - tip it! Tell us!
Yes this was all filmed over the course of a few months, between November 2021 and March 2022. It takes a while to film and edit.
@@kirbyallison Ah yes, but I want to see the hunt! I have two springer spaniels and hunt pheasant, geese, ducks and partridge inthe Hudson Valley. At my club we dress up a bit -- plus fours, etc., but that suit is one of its own! BTW -- I'm the guy who teased you about your "funeral director" suits!

Interesting, but what do you estimate to be the cost per wear of such garments?
Since your commissioning a shooting suit, does this mean you are going to commission a “bespoke or custom” gun to go with your suit and trip? I believe this would be the cherry on top, and like your suits & shoes would last a life time!

I know that these suits can be adjusted if one gains or loses weight, but as detailed to perfection as these are, I would be concerned about any change in body habitus affecting fit.

Good looking suits. But should the blue lines of the sleeves match with those on the front body.
At the basted fitting stage, they don’t. They are aligned at the forward fitting.

Gosh, Kirby is just so off puttingly dull (yeah not a word I know) but the subject matter is fascinating and the production value is great. I’m so torn about his stuff. I wish he had a double that was less cringy
