  • It's only been sitting a few days and only went down to the low 40s last night. I'm curious how well the 1948 Farmall Cub will start when it gets down to zero degrees! :)

Hand crank because the electric start does not always work ! been there, 55 years ago !! LOL. make sure your fingers are loose (open to the left) in case of kickback. You did it right. Thanks for the refresher !

I love these old I4 tractors. My grandpa has the exact same one he sometimes lets me drive.

My 57. Cub has electric start, 6volt system. I'll hand crank to save the starter. A 90 degree pull, up is all it takes. These Cubs are sweet little tractors.

Sounds good! Get that gas cap replaced. New ones from International are still available free. You'll need to submit your serial number. The problem I had was mine had a hole drilled through the top and gasoline would spurt out. Without the hole or leaving the cap loose, it would stop running from vapor lock. Old ones are also dangerous because of the potential for fire from the built-up pressure; if not that, it was leaking fuel all over the paint. Good luck!

I’m sorry for a stupid question, I just came into possession of what I believe to be a 73’ cud cadet lo boy..... thinking it’s a lot older than that now bc it looks identical to yours but with a different hood and different color paint.... it also has the hand crank option... but no crank... guess I’ll order one.... but so I’ve never tried to hand start anything, isn’t there a possibility of that crank just taking off and spinning wildly when the motor does fire up? Or is there a fancy design that I can’t see built in to prevent that from happening? Thanks for your time and again sorry for the stupid question
