    Hi Chris
    As a professional carpenter, woodworker, and commercial construction superintendent for the last 30 years I can appreciate the failures that we all experience occasionally especially when it comes to finishing. The science and information behind different finishing products tends to be very murky, even with natural products like pure tung oil or BLO. I currently have two jugs of pure tung oil on my workbench, different brands but both pure, not catalyzed. The instructions for use completely contradict each other. Consequently I have scraps of wood all over my shop with different finishes being tested because I can’t trust what I read on a container of any given finish.
    Thank you again for experimenting with different products and publishing your results!

    Chris: I absolutely dig and respect the "re-do" aspect of this series. And I hope you intend to continue this way. It is extremely useful and illuminating. I usually have a ton of questions following one of your videos. With this series, I've had even more. And to me, that means you're making me think: "Hey, wait a minute, I swear he said five videos ago that...." I've learned a ton JUST watching you change course over the weeks and years in terms of CNC bit strategy, and the same applies to other aspects of building an instrument. I've always intuited that your vocation, like your channel, is a work in progress. And it's generous of you to show us the whole process, warts and all. So thanks, dangit!

    Thank you Chris. Your amazing, and we are so proud to have our products as part of your amazing guitars. If your shop is between 68° and 75° 2 hours recoat is fine with a 2 wetmill coat. Or 2 sheets of paper thick. Again, thank you so much.

    Yes Chris, It is extremely humid here in Hong Kong, especially summer rainly seasons, I have tried the same way as yours, I use a blow dryer to dry every layer of each spray and hope to shortern the process, but, It is all blur, not clear and with some bubbles inside the finish, LOL, then I rather take them back down to the living room and let air conditioner to dry it for 2 days/layer.

    Nice one Chris, it’s great to know that I’m not the only person who makes mistakes when applying finish. It’s one of the hardest skills and processes. Anyway, we all learn by our mistakes and the way I’m going I’m gonna be the best! lol!

    The dyed wood reminds me the color of one of my basses. Pretty similar color and grain.

    Hi Chris, thanks so much for this video, can you tell me what the sanding sealer is that you use? I love your videos - very instructive. thanks! Ian

    Thanks for sharing your knowledge Chris. I’m working on fixing my own Brite Tone mistake right now. Unfortunately I sanded through to bare wood in three places on corners on my guitar build. Attempting touch up repairs. Hoping that I won’t have visible witness lines around the perimeter of the touch up places. Any advice that you can offer on how to achieve an invisible touch up would certainly be appreciated. Next time I’ll round my corners more and use much more caution when sanding them.

    It seems you've stopped using Craftnique pigments with Crystalac binder in favor of Transtint and a second sealer coat? How come? Also, z-poxy instead of the crystalac grain filler. When did you make that switch and why?

    • @HighlineGuitars
      @HighlineGuitars  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No, I use TransTint for transparent finishes and either Createx or Crystalac Craftnque for solid opaque finishes.

    I’m putting together a strat for the first time. Got my favorite affordable neck (90’s MIM), got a great deal on a musikraft sanded ready to paint alder 60’s. strat body. Other higher end bridge, tuners, etc. the only thing I’m not sure about is the finish. Seems like nitro is a little more involved than I thought. And more expensive. Worth it to bite the bullet and buy the packaged nitro spray package in a kit from stewmac, or is there a better way?

      Crystalac Brite Tone or Solarez I Can't Believe It's Not Lacquer. Just remember to test on scrap wood before you commit to your project. Testing will help you to understand how the products work and it will give you a chance to practice applying it.

    Once you sand the Z-poxy, what's the best solvent/thinner/liquid to wipe it down with? I'm concerned about residue under the topcoat. Thank you.

      @@pigjubby1 I use a tack rag. No solvents.

    Just from top of my head, could clear 3d printing resin be used as topcoat in the same way as Solarez?

    • @HighlineGuitars
      @HighlineGuitars  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve never tried it. Might be worth testing.
