In my opinion one should never forget that the Rottweiler is, after all, a very sensitive dog.
He needs a lot of affection all day long., he needs the therapeutical feeling that he is welcome, like a child. He wants to be your very best friend what you ought to appreciate.
After a while you realise, that even the birds and the squirrels in the garden don't escape because they know here comes a gentle giant.

He loves everybody. Plays with the yorkie and the Pitt and keeps licking on the cat. (Not sure if hes taste testing the cat, lol) and absolutely loves the kids. Curls up with my 6 year old every night. Only complaint , hes a bed hog. So glad we made him a part of our family.

Shivraun Ghuman The first thing you should do is take her to a vet. Rottweilers don't hit full size until about 4 years old so I wouldn't worry about her head size too much right now. The legs are an issue. You need to have a professional look at that and make sure she is growing at a normal pace.

I think he would be a very different dog if I had not done this. I also have 2 miniature dachshunds and cats and chickens. He does wonderfully well with all of them. He's an amazing dog. Should mention , start working with them as soon as 3 months and keep with training for first 2 years, Rots are smart but stubborn and the worst thing you can have is a rotten rotty, they are a big powerful dog with a big jaw and alot of biteforce, even when playing they can draw blood and hurt you. Mine loves me alot but can still get carried away when we play, not in a mean way at all just has a big mouth and teeth and sometimes my hand is in wrong place.
Fetch : LOL its theirs until they want to share
Dont be surprised if you end up with a 120 pound plus LAP dog couch potato, mine loves to lay on her back with head on my leg and watch TV
Doors - Mine has mastered opening many of them by bumping her nose, she learned to slide the glass patio door open, She has also unlocked and opened the truck door to come find me in the gas station!

      Hero Hour
They definitely can, but so can any large or medium sized dog. It’s all in the training, but Rottweilers are one of the smartest dog breeds so they are quick to train and catch on easily. It’s all about the owner, and how the owner goes about socializing the dog, training them and whether or not a non trained and violent Rottweiler is close enough/not on a leash which inevitably causes the kid to be hurt.
If you have a Rottweiler, you must be dedicated to training. And if the rottie still somehow turns you violent or untrustworthy, DONT UNLEASH THEM NEAR CHILDREN. Simple as that.

That dog has a place in my heart

  • @willek1335
    @willek1335 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Excellent list.
I'd add one caveat. On my second Rottweiler, I took the socialization aspect too far, partially because it's easy. I initially assumed it's anxiety and aggression towards dogs was rooted in lack of socialization. However.
What turned out to be the case was that this particular dog often preferred to be alone. She was more neurotic than my previous Rottweiler. What I didn't realise at first was that she actually needed a lot more investment and leadership, than my previous dog. Upon understanding that fact, I doubled my effort in exercise and firmer leadership, while limiting the exposure to other dogs. The result was a calm, disciplined and confident dog.
To sum, dogs have nuanced personalities. Oftentimes, the answer you're looking for will be where you least want to look - e.g. using more time and effort. ;)

What you are saying is absolutely true and to the point. More Rottweiler dog owners need to hear these major points and abide by them. But there a lot of owners, sad to say, that just want to have a Rottie that is aggressive and mean. Socialization and training (the right way) will give these magnificent breeds exactly what they need and will give you, the owner, peace of mind and a pet who is smart, gentle and will watch your back forever!

I'd say that's exactly right. The one we have now we got at Windy River and he is just a beautiful dog. He does well in classes; and without any training has now been successfully herding around our little Golden Retriever puppy using a squeaky toy. Usually he would tear a toy like that up in about 5 seconds, but he won't tear it up, he uses different squeaks to call her or direct her. It's fantastic. What unbelievable great dogs.

i have had about 3 rotts and can say they are a natural at guarding and protection. they are quick to guard especially if aggression is shown. they have a loyalty to their humans that's probably unmatched among 90% of most dog breeds. german shepherds are nice dogs, they are very smart but when it comes to fearlessness, hands down the rott is king.

He is good when it comes to hearing people coming to our door, when people close car doors infront of our yard (on the street) or our next door neighboors he immidietly gets up and is on alert. He barks at anyone who comes to our door whom he is not familiar with. He has never had a pee or poop incident inside the house ever since he moved in with me which has been about 5 months. He is super friendly with us and always wants to play :D

When I was 12 my brother bugged my dad for a dog, our cat died a few months before we all missed having a pet around the house. I was scared of dogs at the time, but when he found out that a friend of his was having to get rid of this rottie - wife was worried about having him near 2 young kids. My dad agreed to a meeting with the dog- where we all went to meet him, telling my brother that if your sister is scared then this is the end of you asking me. It was love at first sight for me- I went up and hugged him straight away- no one had ever tried to hug him before- he loved it and put his head on my shoulder and panted. I had to have him- we walked home with him that day for a month trail that only ended years later when he passed away surrounded by us all. He helped me get over a fear of dogs, he protected me and cuddled with me everyday. God I miss him so much, his previous owner was so happy that he had lots of love, cuddles and company- there was nearly always someone home keeping him company. Xxx

Spot on. When my basset hound died I adopted a mixed breed from the shelter. I ended up with Wolfie partly because no one else would take him. He was 2.5 years old and was part lab, part shepherd and part rottweiler. His body looked more lab (with the exception of the rottie markings), but his personality is all rottweiler. Despite a terrible history of abuse, and unfortunately some anxiety that continues because of it, he is a lovely dog with a sweet temperament, even after all he's been through. He's intelligent, loving, loyal, playful and also, a true guard dog (but without a truly aggressive bone in his body). He has made such strides in the year and a half I've had him, is wonderful with my young son, other dogs and pets. This was an entirely new dog experience for me (bassets and spaniels being my previous experiences), but I would adopt another rottweiler in a second.

Since we raw fed our dogs we had no issues with weight nor bones. Ours was a rottie/retriever, with amazing parents and she did everything from watch the property, hunt, play with the kids and help clean up logs. She could swing a log with her mouth as needed or just play withit, and she was very gentle as I needed, she was pretty quiet and good with people, but only once she alerted with alarm it was as she was older and it was a nervous ups guy. She was the best dog ever. We could take her country, town or city she was fine with whatever we asked of her. Awesome dog.

I never cared either way about them until I lived with one (my roommate's dog) and I just totally fell in love with her. She's 11 years old and still very healthy and everything you said here seems to be true -especially the way she guards the house. She is a big silly goofball full of love and wanting of love, but when you hear that door knock and then that bark, it really gets your attention, to say the least. I would definitely consider owning one but the joint displaysia thing has me concerned, in addition to the fact that I have not had good luck with "purebred" dogs. They always seemed to have some major problems and I attribute that to inbreeding.

Rottweilers are by far the most loyal loving and truly intelligent breed of dog i have ever owned they need lots of love and attention bcuz they are so devoted to their family they feel just like one of the kids!! My girl is loved by all of my friends and many have got their own after seeing mine for what she truly is... a huge teddy bear! lol... would never own another breed! She knows everything I say & listens so well bcuz they do just about anything to please you!! Gia is my BFF!!!!!

Getting my rott in July. She's a Expo dog from Blackrosesrot Kennel from Romania. If you like rottweilers, be sure to check they're website; just google it. Dorian is a really great guy, and he loves what he does. Cheers
P.s can't wait for my puppy to come.

we have Sisters, Daisy 135 lbs, and Dixie the runt 95 lbs. love them so much. they are great with people. they each have their own personality. mine are 4 years old and have always had joint issues, they run around like crazy, and play hard. they then will limp around for awhile. we have had them looked at by the vet, who has us keep them calm. it seams to heal, and then they aggravate it all over again. any thing you can suggest.

A very engaging dog breed that needs massive amounts of interaction, inclusion and training.
And they’re worth every moment of your time! They pay back 2 to 1 to make up for their regrettably short lives.
We’ve had Rotties for over 20 years. Not one ugly incident in that time. But when I approach other Rotties I do so with caution because I know that they see me as an outsider.
They are lovely, they are loyal.
Quite frankly, all dogs are awesome. Some are just “awesomer”!
Love your dog. Go for a walk!

I adopted a rottweiler from shelter, and it was a challenge. She was 2,5 when we got her. After one year and a half I can finally say, she became normal rottweiler. :D Except, she doesn't bark! Sometimes she tries, in her sleep she barks, but when she is awake, she just doesn't bark. :D

I have a female Rottie Keeley, we is almost two. we love her she is great with our family. but she doesn't like other dogs of any kind or cats. she is a great protector of us. we were going to adopted a male that was 1 from a no kill shelter. needless to say she was not having no part of that I come to realize she is a one dog family. which is fine with us. we love her so much. she is a big ole baby. people judge this breed before that actually take to time to research the Rottie. these are the only dogs I will ever own. loyal to the breed.☺

Does your rottie purr? I'm an experienced dog owner, but first time rottie owner. I'm finding a lot of people don't understand the purr. Mine does it, but gets loud when she's really enjoying it. If I stop, she nuzzles in to me and begs for more love and snuggles.
