This is what it's like to be too close to somebody. Okabe may have loved Kurisu... but whatever the hell is going on between Mayuri and Okabe is almost tragic.... For him...she's somebody utterly irreplaceable and whose feelings run too deep. To call it love... would be a gross understatement.
Atric Channel Yup. Chronologically, the main narrative spans a bit to a year following Kurisu's failed 1st rescue. From the Vega and Altair route, it spans another 14 years...all the way into Operations Skuld, Arc Light, and Altair. Operations Skuld and Arc Light are seen, and Altair is implied to have succeeded via Mayuri slapping her beloved Hikoboshi.(..see S;G True End) And well, one Okabe did meet Kurisu again at least. We can conjecture 0's Okabe, Mayuri, and Suzuha may have survived, but that's it. Chances are...they either: A) Had their existences negated via world line shift. Very Likely. B) Landed in another Attractor Field or world line in some point in the "future" not connected to the "past" that is Steins;Gate or is it itself a Steins;Gate.. Very Likely. C)...Or, was actually blown into another parallel universe altogether via a black hole. (Remember. Infinite world lines--one universe) This is the least likely, but not impossible. Simply put, all universes are in temporal flux until stabilized via observation...Concept gets kinda complicated, but it is plausible.
The relation between Okabe and Mayuri was always so hard to watch for me cause im so sorry for them. Okabe would never dare trying to date Mayuri as long as Mayuri doesnt tell him that she loves him and Mayuri couldnt tell him that she loves him cause she was afraid that stuff could change between them. She was always playing a role being that cheerful, smiling girl just for Okabe and Okabe was playing the role of Kyouma just for Mayuri. Its truly heart-wrenching... And Kurisu is coming along stealing him away and Mayuri just lets it happen cause she is just too good. Anyway Past Okabe ended up with Kurisu. Future or 0-Okabe with Mayuri. Thats how i see it and how i want it to be.
