    Absolutely LOVE my Audix Mics! The D6 is impressive, and watching its manufacturing process helps me to appreciate it that much more. Using the D6, D2, D4, i5 and ADX-51. I also have an Audix f15 condenser.

    Thank you for this video. I was able to watch your employees to figure out how to open the rear assembly of the microphone and tighten the philips grubscrew that had been shipped loose. No more rattle!

    • @filminginportland1654
      @filminginportland1654 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      anonymusum They’re a premium brand, but still mass produced. There are some boutique vendors out there who make small production runs which are better than companies like Neumann, but overall a modded mic nets the best results since you can really soup it up with the best caps, transistors, etc while tailoring for your need. Such as the work Klause does for condenser mics.
      You could also build a kit condenser mic that easily rivals a Neumann for a fraction of the price. That’s what I do, build my own condensers. Lot of fun too.

    I'm curious about the tiny circuit board that's mounted to the XLR connector. What's the purpose of that? Typically I've only seen circuit boards in condenser mics.

    Why are there dealer restrictions of shipping of Audix mics to Canada? (B&H in NYC). Canadian based retailers often charge up to 40% more for the exact same microphones. Could someone from Audix please explain exactly why I am forced to buy their products from overpriced Canadian retailers instead of allowing me to get the best price/service from US based retailers like B&H?
    Shure, MXL, AKG, Roland and Yamaha also have this policy and it is extremely frustrating.

    • @filminginportland1654
      @filminginportland1654 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LanceCampeau Find a friendly American, maybe one living near the border, and convince him or her to buy for you and ship north. We’ve done that for people. Though I know a lot of Canadians who live nearish to the border who just get a PO box / mailbox in the nearby American town across the border and ship there, then just hop across to pick it up. Lots of people from BC do that in Bellingham or Blaine, WA.
      But seriously, a lot of us friendly gearheads will do it for you :)

    • @filminginportland1654
      @filminginportland1654 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Abdel Hassan Camacho Do you prefer it on kick over an RE20 or an SM7? I have both that I use on a lot of sources, but haven’t tried a D6 yet. The universality of the RE20s and SM7s make them so versatile vs a single-purpose mic, though I suppose you could use a D6 for other things too.

  • @khronscave
    @khronscave 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Aaaaand what exactly do SMD electronics (from/for condenser mics, most likely) have to do with the fabrication of D6's? :D

    • @AUDIXmics
      @AUDIXmics  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The D6 has an electronic filter placed in the base of the XLR that helps optimize the sound. The batch of boards with XLRs that are shown in the video are created on the SMT line.

    • @filminginportland1654

      Khron's Cave surface mount is used in all sorts of electronics. While true that dynamics are typically fully passive, unpowered mics, many manufacturers further tailor the frequency response with external components. Sometimes for other reasons. Many mics will have a humbucking coil in path, for example, to help with hum rejection (like an RE20, RE16, etc) while others dynamics have transformers (like the SM57, SM58).
      So there are several reasons why discrete components may be used in a dynamic mic signal path. And for a mic like this that’s designed for a specific instrument, they would need a more tailored response than the general purpose dynamic mics that are often used on kick, like the RE20 or SM7 which have a wider, flatter frequency response that makes them work well with most sources, but those aren’t tailored for kick. I’d imagine a D6 probably wouldn’t sound great on voice or violin, for example.

    Thanks to this video, i could fix my D6. the screw in the back of the capsule gone loose after 5 years. i got a funny ringing sound like a tabourine with every hit of the bass drum. this should not happen with an industry standard!!!
