    The mics are great and I own the setoo.However the big shout on your video is the superb placement on perfectly tuned drums and polished cymbals, combined with excellent playing. You really know your kit and your gear. Great review. Thanks.

    Great review matey. I have the same kit myself, i added and an extra D4 for my second floor tom and run them into Auria on my Ipad via a Presonus 1818vsl.

    Great Video mate. I love Audix mics when tracking and playing live. You got some great sounds for such a tight room and low mic count. On an unrelated note, What do you think of the Isoacoustic stands? ive been heavily considering investing. Have you found they helped improve your mixing and listening experience?

    Thank you for the video! I think it's the best review of DP7 kit that I've seen.))
    Great tips for me, as I'm also not an engineer, but simply a drummer that wants to have more or less qualitative recordings of him playing.
    Special thanks for the D-Vice part, unfortunately it's pretty unclear of how they are meant to be used when you only look at the pictures on the internet.
    The sound is pretty good, and I like the fact it doesn't need a ton of postproduction to get it to the right point.

    1 thing I found out from recording a lot years ago is to play hard not soft for more punch and overall better sound as far as rock iono about softer jazz beats or music but I know every experienced sound guy anywhere I recorded told me to play hard as possible for more flexibility overall so your not stuck with - sound to edit

    Great review man! i feel like the Audix Mics have some kind of special frequency response to boost/ attenuate some frequency which commonly make drums sound better, equivalent to using an EQ.. do you feel so too? Thanks!

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yea I think their frequency response is geared towards making the drums sound kind of eq'd from the start which some engineers probably don't like but I think most home studio drummers do.

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to do top and bottom but I eventually just felt like it wasn't really necessary for my videos anymore. It's good for helping the snare stand out more in a dense mix though so for those situations I think it's good to have that bottom mic for reinforcement.

    I’ve been looking at this exact set & the Shure PGADRUMKIT7.
    I’ve never had to mic my acoustic sets over the years & these day I mainly play my Roland TD-25K on stage. However, my band has a HUGE gig in May & I will be using my DW Performance acoustic set.
    This Audix set over twice the price of the Shure PGADRUMKIT 7 set.
    In your opinion, why the huge price difference & how do the two sets compare in a live situation (no recording).
    Thanks!

    • @CarlsOpinion
      @CarlsOpinion 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Maybe it's just me, but these mic's sound like they will need a lot of work either in the studio or in a live setting, especially since this guy knows what he is doing when it comes to placement and tuning his drums. If you have to do that kind of work for either a $899.00 or now, $999.00, drum mic kit, IMO, you're better off going with some inexpensive Behringer $20.00 or $25.00 mic's for the snare, and toms (top AND bottom), spend a few more dollars for an inexpensive kick drum mic, $68.00 for Behringer's overhead pair, and that still leaves you enough money to sneak a mic in front of the kick, and over the kick between the rack tom and the snare, and then some. If you have to put in the work anyway, why spend the extra money?? Carl

      @dagb7271 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These Audic mics are frequently used on big festivals and is considered a standard in the live- but also studiocommunity. One reason is that those mics are very suitable and has a frequency response that suits the sound ideal of rock and pop, pre-tuned for this. The PGA is to be honest a entry-level mic-kit. My opinion is that that the price difference makes full justice for the end result, but with a limited budget the PGAs are a full worthy alternative to the Audix.

    Is there any reason the drums dont resonate at all? Or do you like them that way for recording purposes?

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A few things... My room is super dead with no ambience at all so that's a factor. The heads I have on my kit are pretty old so they don't really have a ton of life in them at the moment, didn't wanna buy new heads 🤑. Also, I tune the drums to be resonant but I do like to control the sustain and overtones a little bit with moongel, cotton balls in the floor tom, and a pillow in the kick. I like a more controlled punchy sound but I'm starting to warm up to the idea of a more open sounding kit because my style of playing is going more towards that kind of sound so I will be experimenting more with opening the sound up in the future...

    • @abbdrums
      @abbdrums  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, all the mixing is done inside Logic. It's mainly just eq, compression, reverb, and some saturation. All those things combined can really bring out a lot of energy from the sound that's not so apparent in the raw audio.
