I went to school with Phil Hill's nephew Harry. Harry was invited by Phil to the Sebring 12-hour race in 1962. I actually sat in this car, (chassis 3387GT), but just parked in the paddock at Sebring. I never got to drive it (I was just 14). Phil took second overall and first in class at the 12 hours of Sebring, the first time this or any 250 GTO was ever raced. My uncle (the rich surgeon of the family) had a '61 GT SWB Berlinetta (the forerunner of the 250 GTO). He took me for a 2:00 AM ride full out on the Long Island Expressway when I was 15, & I've been a speed junkie ever since. In the summer of 1973, I got to test drive a '68 Lamborghini Muira S (the forerunner of the Countach), with a 12-cylinder transverse-mounted engine. I come by it genetically. I took my driver's test in PA in 1964 in my father's Chrysler 390 hp, 413 cu.in twin 4-barrel 300J with ram injection tubes & that weird squared steering wheel. The cop who gave me the test asked whether I was going to drive this car, but my father had a pussy little Ford Falcon convertible for me. The cop said, good, because if I was going to drive this car, he'd flunk me automatically. In 1966, I had it timed on a measured mile at about 145 mph.
Outside of purpose-modified 1988 & 1991 E--30 BMW M3s, Dinan-modified for road racing, the coolest car I've ever owned was a 1967 Sunbeam Tiger II. Between the AC Cobra & the Ford Mustang Cobra, Sunbeam hired Carroll Shelby to create an 8-cylinder engine version of the Sunbeam Alpine (4 cylinder 1425cc lawn-mower engine, IIRC). He mated the ' 64 through '66 Tiger I's with a Mustang 260 cu.in motor and the last year's Tiger II with the Mustang 289. Chrysler imported several into the US and, by sheer luck, my father was the bankruptcy lawyer for a failed Chrysler dealer. He introduced me to the Referee in Bankruptcy & I was able to buy their never-titled Tiger II in BRG for an astounding price of $500.00 USD ahead of the bankruptcy liquidation. I lowered the car & raced it for almost 2 years. Unfortunately, in August, 1968, driving east toward Albuquerque at about 125 mph, on a 110 degree day, I blew the rear main bearing & the next thing I knew, I had a long plume of smoke and an engine with no moving parts. In those days, Al & Bobby Unser had competing garages across the street from each other & it just depended which shop's wrecker collected the car. It was Al's that day. I sold it to him, took a plane home & never heard a word about what happened to it.

1n 1988 I came across my first 250GTO whilst driving in my local town. It belonged to Pete Waterman who lived in the area.
He'd bought it for £1m, a few days later I saw it parked outside the library, so I went and bought a camera and got some pics which I still have. I've seen 4 others since at Goodwood, the last one in 2018 at the circuit de Barcelona at a classic racing event. Nick Mason bought his for £35k, the bargain on the century...I just love them.

If I remember correctly it wasn't actually sold for 50 mil, but rather one guy offered the owner of one of them 50 mil for the car and the owner declined. That way everybody taxed it's value at 50 million

What. Idk what you mean. Arabs love cars. Vintage or new. Racing or comfort. Dubai has one of the widest variety of cars on the streets. So if you want to sell that age old beauty to someone you need to master the art of salesmanship. For you to understand better I can sell the same old pen for a million dollars though it’s actually a 9 cent pen. The price paid is the desire to possess the particular item rather than the real value. That desire is what a salesman will try to cultivate within the buyer to compel him to pay the price. This is a basic salesmanship that can be taught in any business schools.
I'm not sure if you understand the concept of "vintage" many of the most expensive objects in the world are vintage .. cars, watches, paintings, furniture ..etc.

It took first in class at the 12 hours of Sebring in 1962 & second overall, driven by Phil Hill, the only American-born F1 champion in history (Mario Andretti was an immigrant). After Hill, the car was campaigned by Fireball Roberts, who took a second in class at the '62 24-hours of Le Mans. Quite a heritage. The second 250 GTO ever built, the first to be raced, & the first to win in class in that race at Sebring (second overall).
@@netweed09 - Anybody with a Jaguar in the old days better have had a close and intimate relationship with a master mechanic. My dad had an XK150, and XL120, and a high output Series 3 XJ12C. He had the cars in the shop half the time, but loved Jags.
And another tip is, try to voice over the car scenes with the interview, it's boring to watch people talking, i think it would be a great idea to film cars with the interview sound instead of music , this will also reduce the video length and makes it possible to be watched 😁
