  • Ex Love Island contestant, Ollie Williams is getting stuck in and learning how to farm his family's estate. As well as showing us the remains of a once state-of-the-art dairy he also explains the impact of the disease neosporosis. Cows pick it up from dog poo left on the grazing fields. Ollie's farm manager Matt Burgess tells us they lost 35 animals last year because of the parasite carried in the dog poo.

Notice that it is the owners that a the bigger problem than the dogs. People are a disgrace, leaving plastic poops bags everywhere is worse than just dog poop lying there and decomposing.

So sounds like farmers need to push for a law Dogg's can only be at dog parks or designated areas . Look I love dogs , I had dogs but I've seen how us dogg owners are lazy and ignorant to Dogg's . They are not children . Dogg's love to run and chase anything .And now the dog poo problem . I go hiking and what do I find half measure dog poo pick up . They leave the bags on the trails I've seen five or six on a trail .
Lazy .I am with farmers .

The neosporosis problem for cows is not something the general public are aware about. I think I had been a dog owner for 8 years, regularly walking in the countryside, before I was made aware by a polite sign a farmer had put by the stiles into his field. As mentioned in this video, an awareness campaign is much needed.

I'm involved in farming and have dogs and honestly I didn't know about neosporosis specifically. The average countryside walker almost certainly doesn't, I agree.
Mind you I wouldn't ever leave dog poo lying around - I didn't know about this specifically, but it doesn't take a genius to know not letting livestock eat dog poo is probably for the best

I feel like it's less of a owner-issue and more of a knowledge issue (besides those that uses a bag then leaves the bag, screw them). I personally have never had the thought that dog poo could effect cattle to such an extent, in my head it's no less than the cows doing their business, just fertilizer.
So there is definitely a need to bring awareness to the public. Feel like in this case the government should give financial aid to build info-signs around these grazing fields.

Totally an owner issue. In the UK, failing to clean up after your dog is illegal and punishable by an on-the-spot fine of £100, or up to £1000 if your case ends up in court. Field, park or road, no excuses.
