Hey Paul! Just wanted to let you know I’m so glad you’re back! The first video you posted I told my girlfriend “Baby, Paul Cheon is back!” to which she promptly replied “who is that?” I’ve always been a huge Magic fan, my girlfriend, less so. 😂 I remember watching you 7+ years ago, and you were always my favorite streamer. Your mix of color commentary, skill, and adaptability makes you one of the GOATS in the MTG streaming world. I wanted to give you special kudos for taking your old-school approach forward and learning how to evolve to the changes of the format. You really hit the ground running with informative, well thought out picks and lines of play. You’re one of the best players out there, and I watch every video as soon as I possibly can. Love ya man, keep up the great work! P.S. That last round with around 1:20 on the clock was legendary!
Hahahaha i also told my gf that Paul is back when I saw the first video posted! She responded exactly the same. I mean, not exactly.. because we are not english speakers but you got the point! Haha
@@haumph It just never comes up, I was instantly thinking of what to sacrifice and how to best play it to be able to keep timewalking. Trading a Through the Breach for a 1/1 token is pretty funny tbh.
@haumph presented us with a REALLY GOOD SHOW in that game three of the last match! It's crazy to think about how many actions he could do with the cards that he had in hand, graveyard and on the battlefield in that stage of the game where he was on a "solitarie mode". In the end of that game three, having two Tamiyo's activations (with six loyalty) and a Snapcaster in hand to recast Time Walk, I would take the Saheeli from the graveyard using Tamiyo's -3 abillity to start making Servos to finish out the match more quickly, but in that game three Oko really showed to us why he's banned in mutiple formats. @haumph, thank you so much for this great content! I hope to see more fun and powerful Vintage Cube drafts like this!
Yeah I was running low on time and just tried to do everything I can to take all the turns while utilizing Oko. I'm sure there were more optimal lines during that 9 extra turn sequence but hey, I still took 9 extra turns!
The last game was insane! I have a proxied vintage cube and my friends and I draft it once a week, but that isn't really enough. Kind of bummed cube is gone from modo at the moment!
@@haumph It was pretty rough yeah. Being light on both win cons (thus really needing to loop Time Walk) and being light on interaction to deal with the hate is awkward. Too bad you didn't get to play a third game though, the deck seemed good enough that you'd be a favorite against most decks that didn't specifically hit the graveyard.
great deck and vid! in match 2 game 1, why not "cycle" the time walk before casting the leovold on turn 3, to at least get an extra chance for a land drop and jace loot activation? The time walk was going to get discarded and/or eaten by cauldron either way but this would have put you up a bit. (incidentally would have drawn you into oko sooner too, but your time walk would have been gone by then)
Was a mistake for sure. I mentioned that I probably should have just cast it. I think the play was time walk. Try to loot for more lands. If i hit 4th land i can drop leovold and then mystical for twister (i shouldn't have discarded mystical)
@@haumph Cool! If the new mic doesn't help, consider the sound treatment in the room or software to help with the extra noise or echo. Krisp is pretty good.
@@GutoCmtt But why? If your best play is Leovold you can just cast him on your extra turn anyways, or you have the possibility that you draw into something better to do.
@@valdemarjrgensen8072 Then your timewalk would have been just a 0 mana draw 1. The opponent took timewalk on the curtains flip because at that point it could be more than a 0 mana draw 1. Even in this specific scenario it turned out way better than if he had played timewalk, because opponent took it instead of other cards that were better than a 0 mana draw 1. Rule of thumb you should avoid playing timewalk as a 0 mana draw 1, unless you are desperate or you don't see yourself getting any value from the extra turn in the long run.
Yeah I guess I could hope that he messes up. Troll is one of the top cube drafters on the server so I don't think he would have let his Kozilek get countered.
Hey Paul :) Wow, this was a great deck! love the games also - very fun and great to listen to your logic. I have once question though - not sure if there was something I missed: th-cam.com/video/N7Xn7nUEX9Q/w-d-xo.html - you draw Leovold and discard Mystical Tutor - why not use Tutor for Timetwister instead? It's a combo with Leovold I think. P. S. I hope you don't mind my question - not trying to be critical here.
Great point! I think I was averse to casting mystical because I wanted to hit my land drops. I think the play was to cast Time walk and reevaluate after I see 2 more cards with my draw + jace. Then play leovold and hopefully draw a mana source to cast mystical. If they flip curtains, I can mystical for twister and then get them. I'd have to cast the mystical after the draw trigger resolves from the leovold when they flip curtains to target me of course. Great point though and I should have definitely kept that in mind. I probably could have won that game.
@@haumph thanks for your answer! I like your line a lot - much better than the line I had in mind. It just didn't occur to me that you could have used Time Walk to see more cards and potentially ramp for Leo + Mystical on the same turn. Wow! thank you :)
So I can increase the chances of getting wastelanded of course. Great question, I think I just put it in during deckbuild and forgot to take it out for an island.
R1G3 against Troll, you didn't want to remand his channel because he could just cast it again and then play Kozilek. Why not let the channel resolve and remand Kozilek instead? He gets to draw 4 cards which is amazing, but it cost a ton of life and he either can't cast it again, or pays so much life recasting it you could maybe win with Snapcaster.
I might be missing something but if you had remanded the Kozilek instead of the channel, he couldn’t recast it with the channel because he wouldn’t have enough life.
Shouldn't he have remanded the kozilek instead of the channel, opponent wouldn't have been able to pay the life for the second cast. Or pretty damn close.

Pauls best play of the day forgetting what Tamiyo does 😂
It's a good play to be honest. For the content that is. (I also really did not know as you can tell hah)

Sweet deck, match 2 was a tricky matchup as well. You had to fight through a lot of tricky hate cards, impressive play.
Yeah I def needed to pick up a couple of removal effects as I only had oko to deal with graveyard hate .

Tamiyo said "not today" on that breach
Who needs interaction if our opponent never gets the turn Back.
All of the turns are mine!
20:30 rather than getting witness with +1 you should have -3 get the time walk right away, make sure you don't lose value out of that.
