What ridiculous power off the ground for Botis. That demeanor looks depressed but the perfect antidote to Alcaraz's (and I am a huge Alcaraz fan) kind of showmanship expressions. Players that grunt loudly and celebrate every shot are fantastic, but the secondary effect they hope to achieve with that is subtle intimidation (of their opponent). Botis's demeanor is perfect against Alcaraz's. Tennis is all about matchups. Occasionally, either intentionally or unintentionally, someone finds the key to the lock. Botis definitely found the key that unravels Alracaraz. Great work.
Botic is so good, but so inconsistent with his form lately. Beating Alcaraz could be the start of him getting back to the top 30 again. He needed a confidence boosting win.
You can tell how much he's lacking in confidence. He felt bad for beating Carlos, like he ruined the party. He even seemed to hesitate his celebration. From the highlights, you can tell the key to beating Alcaraz was to drive him back deep into his court with super heavy topspin. This created a lot of problems for Carlos as he couldn't drive the ball as hard as usually does with balls above his strike zone. At times, Carlos did take a court position a couple of steps back but that's not what he wants to play. This is lesson to Carlos. You can't keep banging away if your opponent doesn't give you space.
