You’re killing it with this episodes. This new season is great; great decks, great theme. Thank you so much for this, I just wanted to say i appreciate a lot your hard work and your personalities :)
Hey guys thanks. This is great and was definitely a great episode. I think the pairings all went pretty well, and balanced. Sorry I missed this weeks game for so long it was a great episode. Well done.
I like that you guys break the rules and don't break the game. This was completely balanced (for the most part). Everyone recognized the real big threats and addressed them properly. I think this comes down to the fact that the more you know about the game, the more you can adjust to the wrench that is thrown in it. Great episode guys, keep them coming.
@42:54 Wheel of Fortune is to Stephen Green as Cryptic Command is to Wes Wise. No matter what the board state is, no matter what he has in his hand, if Stephen draws a Wheel/Reforge the Soul, he's casting it. You can take that to the bank, every time.
It's really frustrating when TH-cam's media player can't handle ads. First one sent me back to the beginning of the video, third one just crashed the player after failing to reconnect to the host through a stable connection
As a binge watcher of commander versus and a #teamgreen supporter, I should note that Stephen has been winning the first two episodes for the past 4 seasons now (season 9-12). He also won the first episode in season season 8 but lost miserably in episode 2 with his kozilek deck. But still, good job Stephen! Always starting strong! Edit: Also, regarding the preview card: Torpor Orb
Never really thought about it, but flip Avacyn is actually a pretty great Boros commander. Always gives you something to do even if you're drawing blanks.
Jeremy forgetting that he could auto-equip hammer, Stephen forgetting about Multani's reach, Jon forgetting (probably on purpose) about losing life on the first turn he had the chain veil... and Justin being awesome as ever; good ol' commander vs ♡
I'm so excited to play with Arixmethis a month ago I built a Tatyova sea monster tribal deck, and having another kraken to add to the deck that also synergies with Tatyova is great
Loved it. Very good game Justin should have won thought, but that's why i love watching these. Reminds me of my playgroup constant errors but fun times :).
Brilliant game idea. I think maybe Jeremy usually doesn't put a way to recover from board wipes or at least I never see him draw them. Hopefully his next deck gets to go off. Big lightning bolt win
I like the idea of a commander sub-format with the general + legendary artifact. Maybe enchantment or even just commander + legendary non-creature. With some kind of heavier focus on flavor.
Death'sHead the copy is exactly identical to the spell on the stack, which already has the x cost defined, so the copies x value is defined as whatever the original was set to,
@51:14 Stephen, if you were going to cast Austere Command you shouldn't have attacked with Linvala so Justin couldn't just bounce all his creatures with Temur Sabertooth.
Chain Veil is actually weird. It doesn't work as it sounds on the card if you read it literally. It basically just gives any planeswalker you have before or after you activate it an additional activation. So say you could play a planeswalker, activate it twice, bounce it to your hand, play it again you could still activate it twice. It makes infinite combos with tefferi where you can untap it a bunch and then reduce it's loyalty to zero and plane it again from your command zone.
Can we have an episode where you guys each have an enchantment general? Just thinking about the potential decks that would be cool like oaths and ascendancys
Bolt and other "creature or player" burn spells have been errata'd to say "deals N damage to any target", which includes planeswalkers as well. Before Dominaria, there was the planeswalker redirection rule, where you'd target a player and then had the option to deal that damage to a planeswalker instead.
Thanks for the uploads, catching up currently.. may just start over with season 1 episode 1, lmao. Quick question though, Does Archangel Avacyn's flip damage also count as commander damage? (The 3 to each creature and each opponent effect) Quick Edit: Ended up digging a little into the rules and discovered commander damage is only counted when dealt as combat damage. So attacking with the flip side assigns commander damage however the flip 3 damage to all doesn't. The more I know!
Card look awesome. Fun design and FINALLY Mr. Green can legaly cast his lands (and get them countered). Like the hole idea you had for partner commanders. Hope WoTC creates it some cards with it.
Video starts here: 0:00
real hero right here
doing god work
Arixmethes is from Theros: it was the monster Kiora searched for before she battled Thassa and stole the Bident
Wow, that's a super cool lore implementation then! Thanks for sharing :D
That makes sense to why he wasn't found lol
She found him, she just couldn't tame him. He was bound to Thassa
Thassa op. "I'll just throw an island at you"
You’re killing it with this episodes. This new season is great; great decks, great theme. Thank you so much for this, I just wanted to say i appreciate a lot your hard work and your personalities :)
The prerelease promo of Moonsilver Spear clearly depicts Avacyn wielding it. So Stephen is actually right for once.
Jeremey: The presence of small ships makes you think Theros? Not the, you know, incredibly Greek name of the card?
Hey, Stephen can finally cast a land!
The_Bovine I had Stephen sign a mountain of mine so I could cast it!
Hey guys thanks. This is great and was definitely a great episode. I think the pairings all went pretty well, and balanced. Sorry I missed this weeks game for so long it was a great episode. Well done.
I thought it got taken down for Stephen ripping the 20. Very fun episode, Good job! #teamgreen #badhorse
Jonathan missed the 7 +1/+1 counters on Toothy :(
He missed 6 of the 7, but yes, a totally different game should have developed.
and more importantly the draw 7 cards when it died, could have drastically changed the game.
or 8+ cards because it would not have died to the Avacyn flip but to the Austere Command one whole turn later.
Playing on magic online spoils us, gotta remember your triggers Jon!!
Great episode. Love the concept. Will have to give this one a try.
gameplay starts at 20:20
that guy...
The game actually starts at 20:27
But you miss the thing
Stephen randomly brainstorms a card that's better than anything actually in the Jund deck.
Stephen, when I first saw Arixmethes I immediately thought of you and how happy you will be to "cast" your land!
@42:54 Wheel of Fortune is to Stephen Green as Cryptic Command is to Wes Wise. No matter what the board state is, no matter what he has in his hand, if Stephen draws a Wheel/Reforge the Soul, he's casting it. You can take that to the bank, every time.
DAKKON!!!! Have been waiting for this for so long and super keen to see how Jeremy has built him :D
I have a Dakkon Blackblade deck also and I love him as a control finisher! He was the first commander I ever built and I’m happy to see him here!
Loved the episode guys! Great work
I thought they were taking a week break and didn't see a video up wednesday...today just got that much better :D
Archangel Avacyn is White/Red in EDH. I double checked, too. You learn something new everyday. In this case, it was about color identity.
@34:49 Jeremy could have attached the Hammer of Nazahn to Stoneforge Mystic for free.
I saw that too lol. RTFC right?
Really enjoyed this episode. Liked the mix up with the equipment.
man Jon nailed the kiora reference
I LOVE Dakkon Blackblade, he is one of my favorite commanders
Truly a beautiful boi

"If you're ready, and you're ready, and that guy is ready..." DEAD
The moonsilver spear is her weapon, the promo from pre-release has art of her hoisting it into the air
I love this idea! Thanks for breaking so many rules
Never really thought about it, but flip Avacyn is actually a pretty great Boros commander. Always gives you something to do even if you're drawing blanks.
moonsilver spear is from Avacyn restored. the picture of the 8 drop beauty holding her spear is one of my favorite
Stephen should have gotten the promo version of Moonsilver Spear because it has Advacyn on it
Poor toothy. Should have stuck around even if it was only for a turn or two. Getting 7x +1/+1 counters is nuts. Especially when they're free!
I liked the idea and the video. Next time everyone should do the legendary monuments from Amonkhet.
Jeremy forgetting that he could auto-equip hammer, Stephen forgetting about Multani's reach, Jon forgetting (probably on purpose) about losing life on the first turn he had the chain veil... and Justin being awesome as ever; good ol' commander vs ♡
Love you guys, keep up the great work.
I love these episodes because there such a fun thinking project
I'm so excited to play with Arixmethis

Promo moonsilver spear has avacyn holding it
Not even a few minutes in and I came here to say this, haha
Stephen! You have to play Ari as soon as possible. Dope preview.
Hoorah! Team Green we got another. This one was with first blood and a commander kill. Too sweet.
Instant or sorcery for a commander video!
Love the theme idea. Very creative
19:50 Preview card
20:28 Game starts
"The jund lands one will have something like this you think?" No Stephen, I'm so sorry
Hope so
You guys should do this with the theros gods and their weapons
Paul Vickrey Or the legends from Kamigawa and their weapons, like Tenza,Godo's Maul and Umezawa's Jitte.
The return of Justins Niprock! The Nips of Vengence
On the helvault promo of moonsilver spear, avacyn holds the spear.
The promo art for moon silver spear has avacyn holding it.
Arixmethes was one of the biggest creature in Theros storyline.
Feel better Stephen!
I would like to point out that on avacine it says she deals the 3 damage so isnt that commander damage? Like niv mizzit, nekusar?
20:14 it starts
Would love to see that Avacyn decklist.
Preview 12:15 game starts 20:15
I forgot what episode did Jeremy play boundless realms
Isn't it when you copy a spell with x in the cmc, the copied spell with x would =0? So techniquely you would have to find a green creature with 0 cmc?
Death'sHead the copy is exactly identical to the spell on the stack, which already has the x cost defined, so the copies x value is defined as whatever the original was set to,
@51:14 Stephen, if you were going to cast Austere Command you shouldn't have attacked with Linvala so Justin couldn't just bounce all his creatures with Temur Sabertooth.
Is it just me or should Justin have not been able to activate bramble sovereign to copy Terastodon because because of Stephens Linvala?
now we need a game of commander where you use Legendary Lands as commanders (Karakas is banned in that format)
What if you guys play decks themed after holidays, like a group hug deck that is Christmas, or a chaos deck for April fools, etc
Chain Veil is actually weird. It doesn't work as it sounds on the card if you read it literally. It basically just gives any planeswalker you have before or after you activate it an additional activation. It makes infinite combos with tefferi where you can untap it a bunch and then reduce it's loyalty to zero and plane it again from your command zone.
Do you guys play deck techs people send you by chance?
Great episode!
Can we have an episode where you guys each have an enchantment general? Just thinking about the potential decks that would be cool like oaths and ascendancys
Game starts at 20:25
Loved it! You guys sbould do a full Plansewalkers episode again.
12:43 for preview
8:50 Planeswalkers *are* fine as commanders. Thank you.
At 43 minutes, when wheel of fortune resolved, shouldn't toothy have gotten 7 +1/+1 counters, thereby keeping it alive when Avacyn transformed?
Arixmethes: He just needed to sleep for a spell. Or five.
at 1:28:30 Mr. Green should have Path'd his own avacyn and flashed her in for them good good indestructibles
Druidic Vow definitely feels like Sylvan Awakening to me.
How come lightning bolt hit elspeth when it says target creature or player
Bolt and other "creature or player" burn spells have been errata'd to say "deals N damage to any target", which includes planeswalkers as well. Before Dominaria, there was the planeswalker redirection rule, where you'd target a player and then had the option to deal that damage to a planeswalker instead.
When he attacked Justin for 20 he played blackblade reforged without tax?
Thanks for the uploads, catching up currently.. may just start over with season 1 episode 1, lmao. Quick question though, Does Archangel Avacyn's flip damage also count as commander damage? (The 3 to each creature and each opponent effect)
Quick Edit: Ended up digging a little into the rules and discovered commander damage is only counted when dealt as combat damage. So attacking with the flip side assigns commander damage however the flip 3 damage to all doesn't. The more I know!
Why the reupload?
They removed the watermark on the preview card because Wizards does not allow other company logos on their preview cards.
I was watching this at lunch and very curious how and why it disappeared.
Cool concept and great episode
I would try to make a Zurgo Helmstriker with the dragon throne of Tarkir but not sure that counts as a weapon
Julian Hylton the internet begs to differ, chairs can easily be weapons. At least, in the same sense that a book can. You can smack someone with it.
I imagine that "Arixmethes" is pronounced much the same as "Archimedes".
Yeah the "-es" at the end is probably pronounced "-ees", as in "bees". Definitely looks like a Greek word.
"Arimeethees" is the pronunciation
You should play with an instant or sorcery as your commander
Jeremy Short could be interesting, but I feel most of the chosen commanders would be only used for a game win
I wonder if herald of Shrek does anything this game
Heartwood storyteller is similar to the card that was discussed at 35 minutes
Season 10 Champion Dir. Kyle West proving his value!
The Kings Crown is a set symbol too....lol
Archangel Avacyn was the first mythic I pulled
Justin, what set are those really vivid-green Forests from? cheers :)
I swear Its always Punch Jeremy in the face day on Commander Vs. Like what Did Jeremy do to you all xD
hes the wes replacement... shoulda known what he was walking into
Great game guys. Have you ever considered building decks based around your favorite band?
W1se F0x I quite like this idea.
I'll start working on my Wu-Tang Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow deck now.
Justin Parnell It would be one of the best episodes. Dimir is also always fun to watch.
Toothy doesn’t die to the Avacyn’s damage
Stephen cast a Wheel of Fortune, Jon draws 7 cards, so Toothy is currently a 8/8
Could this idea work with Partner and Partner With? Like an Equipment that can be partned with it's wielder?
Card look awesome. Fun design and FINALLY Mr. Green can legaly cast his lands (and get them countered). Like the hole idea you had for partner commanders. Hope WoTC creates it some cards with it.
It is still a spell while on the stack so technically it isn't a land until it hits the battle field.
Jonathan should have done Teferi, Temporal Archmage and the Chain Veil.
I've been watching for a super long time and I don't recall if Gahiji has ever been played. Am I wrong?
Did you reupload this just to remove the watermark on the preview?
because they had to
scarrboros Why?
because Wizards doesn't allow it, also it made no sense
will we get a "Great Pit of Carkoon" in mtg?
How did no one go Karlov/Jitte?
Kyle Lichtenwalner Because Umezawa owned the jitte, not Karlov?
Attackin with Dakkon!😂😂😂
