It's so stupid that because parents won't monitor their children on the internet, we all have to be expected to do this crap. I haven't and won't scan my face for use of anything. I'll quit using a service before I will.
the internet was never built for children, it's just ongoing with these people who have kids but expect everyone else to support them financially and lose their rights because they can't parent
If a website asked for this, that's a website I'll never go to and if it's an app that asks for this is an app that I'll never use. People need to take care of their damn kids and this bullshit needs to end.
Walmart sends a Spark driver to check my ID at my front door before handing over my alcohol. I love it. As anti social and no-contact as I am, I still would rather be carded by a IRL human than this rigamarole. I am middle aged. I was old enough before the developers making this were old enough to type.
the thing at 6:40 happened to me too, i was a 20yo trans woman - and HRT can really affect what age you read as - so any content i posted on TikTok that had anything as innocuous as a lowcut top kept being automatically flagged for explicit underage content (up until i finally just stopped uploading bcuz i was on the verge of being banned)
I've read that people couldn't tell people's age within a 6 years margin, so I have absolute no faith on the machine's accuracy. Not to mention the whole privacy debacle that comes with the tech.
Ooo a Thursday power user! 🎉. That was a wild ride into the dystopia that is late stage capitalism internet. I have read a lot of Sci/fi in my life and everything you two went over has been documented as fiction before it was rolled out with not a care in the world. Great show Taylor, as always.
I'm in support of other forms of age verification online, like a digital/online drivers license. Something from a non-gov platform that shows that they can protect that data. It should not have to out your identity to the site, but it is a platform that the site can go out to verify your age only.
You can’t protect data online. This age verification stuff is a bugbear, companies want face scanning for marketing and they are framing it as a way to protect kids. It’s made up, they want our data. If they were actually concerned about kids, they’d focus on huge penalties for the companies, like they do in bars.

How long before TikTok videos show up that are makeup and lighting tutorials on how to fool age verification checks?

if someone draws a beard will that pass
imagine if elon buys whatever site or platform you've handed your id to, oh wait...

In TX they ask for your Driver's License no Picture of yourself unless I have gone far enough. But they send it to Twitter
It won't be long until someone cleverly gets around this, with AI-generated driver's licenses.
A Dutch ID?
