I have 4 Model 686’s, one for each member of my nuclear family. I love the platform that much. Not one Hillary Hole among them. Each one is stainless with Pacmayr grips between 4 and 6 inches long. They are as iconic to the 80’s as the Beretta 92F.
I’ve got a 66-2, 2.75 inch barrel. Great shooting gun that’s been by side since 1985. On your remark about R butt vs S butt, these are carry pistols and a R butt is what you want. Obviously this is just a preference on your end when you said you’d like it in a S butt. But I carry mine a lot so R butt is the way to go. Great video and beautiful looking 66-2 you showed us.
That's a sweet revolver! There's just something about them, especially a S&W. I feel very lucky to have snagged my model 65-3 a couple weeks ago for 400, and it's in excellent condition! I'd love to have a 3in model 65
I have a 66-4 6inch. The original grips were a set of Uncle Mike's boot combat grips. I switched to the Pachmayr Professional Gripper. I recommend and would suggest getting the Bianchi IWB holster with Thumb break. That's a perfect EDC.
The big deal about the 3” vs the 2” or 2.5” is the ejector rod. The 3” has a full length ejector rod. It made reloading much easier and smoother. Also, the round butt accommodates the S&W round combat grips. I own one, and it is the best revolver I have ever used.
The semi automatic when pressed into the target are very easily taken out of battery, if a woman is in contact with the threat the revolver is way better
Thats a beautiful S&W, I'd love to have it. I have some cool revolvers but always wanted a 66. I have a 442 special edition for the Heller case with the second amendment and ⚖ on the side
Good morning, Jason, that is a brilliant Smith & Wesson revolver, and Sam has true style. I have just recently purchased a K frame Smith as well. Mine is a Model 14-3, which was made around 1967. If Sam is planning on carrying the 66 as his EDC, he would get great results from 38 +P ammo. Easier to shoot and will give him the knock down power he would need. And Jason, you need to learn the sweet spot and give away single action shooting. And if you need a demo, I will pop over and show you. Now on my star scoring system, I give it 5 Stars plus a thumbs up. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍
I have a 686 Plus two and a half inch barrel and I also have a j frame m&p 340 I love them both and I've shot numerous 357 Magnum rounds out of both revolvers never had an issue and ballistics was never a problem but to each his own as they say and I wouldn't mind having the 66 that's in this video Long life and good health to everyone
S&W modle 10/64 and 13/65 (fixed sights) where popular with 3 inch barrels also used by the F.B.I. So I dont understand why the 19/66 are so rare with 3 inch.
Hey Jason! Ya may want to paint your nails for better groupings on paper. My model 60 .357 with 3” barrel is a smooth shooter also, your recoil management looks great. 🎉
The primary advantage of the 3"vs 2 1/2" snub was the fact that the 3" has a full length ejector rod. The 2 1/2" extractor rod does not fully extract .357 cases. If your chambers are fouled, you may have to use your fingers to pluck spent cases from the cylinder. I have round butt, Hogue, hard nylon, grips on my 66-3, virtually identical to the rubber grips you exhibited. With a midsize revolver, I feel, hand filling, round butt grips are superior, for accurate, double-action shooting. The nylon grips don't cause clothing to ride up like rubber grips do.
Jason, stop picking on your shooting ability, you’re doing great. I keep coming back for your intellectually superior reviews and out of the box thinking. As far as a 357 magnum Smith & Wesson I would suggest the 627 pro series 4 inch eight shot 357 magnum revolver. Doesn’t get any more awesome than that ,Just my opinion. Second favorite is a 686+4 inch and then of course this model 66 without the Hilary hole.

Yes they are and that is so cool you own so many!
I have a 66-1 and just had an action job done by the Gunsmith Inc in Phoenix. Incredible!!!
That is a sweet revolver.
That’s a sweet little revolver man love the older s&w revolvers
The older ones like this one are really nice.

Thank you so much for this. I think that is a good recommendation.
I have one, it was a Lew Horton gun. Bought it new.
That is really cool.

Good information. I do prefer the longer ejector rods.
The semi automatic when pressed into the target are very easily taken out of battery, if a woman is in contact with the threat the revolver is way better
Fair point.

That is a cool revolver!
@@thetexasgunvault I love old revolver especially S&W, but I'd love to own that 66

Thank you Andrew. I thought a gun like this would be right up your ally.
@@thetexasgunvault You knew I would, I love your channel. Keeping bringing out the content
I have 66-2 4 inch beautiful revolver
They are gorgeous!

Interesting. All I know is that this one is.
They just didn’t make very many of them.
I have never shot my 686 plus in single action… I bobbed the hammer and never looked back
There is nothing wrong with that.

Great point and information. Thank you!
I have always thought a 4 inch barrel looked the right length on an N-frame Smith, but I agree that the 3 inch barrel is the right look on a K-frame.
It is a very balanced look.
There are some model 27 with a 3.5 inch barrel. The barrel end with the ejector shroud. Look great also.
The Model 66 wasn’t made standard with a 2” barrel. The standard snubby length was 2.5” for the Model 19 and 66.
Good information. Thank you.

I love the 3". I don't care for round butts or Hogue stocks. Try putting the web of your hand higher on the revolver.
I will next time.
I heard that they made 2500 of those and that they had something to do with the Texas Rangers. Just what I heard, not what I know.
That would be interesting. I had not heard that, but very cool if it was!
FYI TH-cam unscribed me from your channel
I am glad you found me again! Welcome back!
Go old or not at all love my no dash to dash 4 S&W 19 66 586 686 29 629 24 25 57
Those are all great revolvers!
