      Here I was thinking you'd been taking a break from YT and it turns out I'd somehow unsubbed. I'm glad I decided to look for one of your older videos and found out you're still posting. I have a new Canik Rival-S you can take for a spin, if you're interested. I'm up at FGC pretty often, so let me know. :)

    I bought my first 44 at a gun show. The first rounds that I put through it were 44 magnum. Yes, it did have little bit of a snap. It was the four inch version. I liked it so much. I went out and got myself the five inch version. When I have enough money saved up. I will go out and get myself the model 29 version. You can never have too many guns or same caliber guns.

    To this day my local shop loves a Dirty Harry marathon, they will sell 5-10 44 mag handguns only to get 90% or more returned, therefore it is like free money for them, my 629 came with a box of 48 rounds, the previous owner fired it 2 times.

    👍 Nice review of a awesome revolver. Have you checked out a S&W 610 10mm revolver? It is a big N frame just like that 629 but is chambered for 10mm/ 40 S&W. I purchased a 610-3 a couple of years ago and find it more fun to shoot than my 686+ 357 because the big N frame handles the recoil so well.

      @@thetexasgunvault a common misconception between Rugers and smiths is, that Rugers are stronger because they are thicker/beefier when it’s actually the fact that they have to be made thicker/beefier because they are cast metal, the only reason Ruger only loads exist in the 44 magnum cartridge is because Rugers have longer cylinders to accommodate the heavier 44 magnum loads. So in conclusion Both firearms have to be made to withstand the same amount of pressure and Smith&Wesson just does it with less material because it doesn’t need as much material.😊

    • @calebsrccrawlers
      @calebsrccrawlers 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jorgesolis9468 uh, ok are you actually going to read and listen to what I have to say? Or just get offend? I will gladly give you an explanation first off to keep the screws from shooting loose just put a little bit of the blue (medium strength) loctite on the threads of the screws and then screw those screws back into the gun and that problem will be solved, that’s a super easy fix. Now to answer the other question, have you ever tried to load those buffalo bore 340 grain +p+ loads, into the cylinder of a smith and then try to close the cylinder? Those 340 grain +p+ loads will lock up the action on a smith because s&w s cylinders are too short and the bullets will stick out the end of the cylinder or they will hang up on the forcing cone when you try to close the cylinder, my local gun shop showed me a couple s&w revolvers where the cylinder was stuck shut because the the bullets were hung up on the forcing cone. They were actually surprised that the owner of the revolver was able to even close the cylinder on their s&w revolver because you could not cock the hammer or pull the double action trigger, on one of the guns, the shop had to cut the ends of the bullets off to open the cylinder up. Now Ruger, colt, Taurus, all have longer cylinders than the s&w revolvers for the most part, also s&w machines their chamber throats (free bore) to be as tight as possible to prevent a bullet from hitting the forcing cone slightly off center causing the metal in the forcing cone to stretch and possibly crack which if has a proper heat treat it takes a lot to crack or stretch the metal. And having such a tight cylinder throats means the pressure spike in the s&w cylinder/chamber will be quite aggressive and require a higher pressure spike to drive the bullet out the barrel, which requires a very strong metal like a forged metal so they can have a gun be as light as possible and still handle those high pressures. And foraging is more expensive too and more time consuming when you look at the s&w price tags, But that’s separate topic for another time. Now I have not researched colt or Taurus, so I can’t say too much about them. Where as Ruger uses cast metal which requires their revolvers to be thicker and heavier than s&w revolvers because cast metal is not as strong as foraged metal so to compensate for that Ruger makes their revolvers thicker which is not a bad thing, remember thick woman are sexy!, ha ha. Anyways Ruger also does not use as tight of tolerances as s&w does in the chamber throats (free bore) because it’s not necessary to have that tight of a chamber both companies are working with the same amounts of pressure created by the 44 magnum cartridge how ever with looser chamber throats you can get away with running higher pressure cartridges because not as much pressure is being created in the looser chamber less pressure = less stress to the metal and slightly less recoil which is always a plus. Thats pretty much how Ruger revolvers are able to run those +p+ 44 magnum loadings for the most part, it’s actually quite interesting and if you want to see a better explanation of this, the yankee marshal has a good video explaining it, now whether you love or hate the yankee marshal it is very good info, he made the video about a month ago. Anyways which ever revolver you choose both are great options but s&w quality control is a little funny right now but they are more than willing to fix the problem if one arises. Hopefully this doesn’t confuse the shit out of you because it can be quite confusing and I am not that great at explaining things sometimes. Hopefully I have half way decent grammar in this reply.

    Nothin' Fancy actually taught me how to stage double action revolver triggers, when he was teaching someone how to shoot a Sig p250. When you learn how to stage the double action trigger, it gets a lot easier to shoot double action well. Also the rotating mass of SW X-frames, you can really feel the way to stage the trigger.

    I bought an old S&W model 65 357 magnum that was in excellent condition. It was the first time I ever shot a 357. I was a bit surprised at the amount of recoil it had compared to a 9mm. It's not too much, but not something I'd want to shoot 250 rounds with in a trip to the range like my 9mm.

    The factory rubber grip was too big around for my medium size hands. If I gripped the gun intuitively to reach the double action trigger comfortably, I ended up gripping the gun in a way that the recoil came right back to my thumb joint. This hurt too much. But, eventually, I figured out that if I made a conscious effort to grip the gun in a way that the web of my hand was over the backstrap, then the recoil came back to a meaty part of my hand and it did not hurt at all. This is the way Jerry Miculek grips his revolver. Take a look at where the web of his hand is when he grips. But, the problem with the factory rubber grip was that if I gripped the gun in this way, I could not reach the double action trigger comfortably. So, eventually I replaced the factor grip with Hogue Monogrip S&W N-Frame Round Butt. This grip is perfect for me. At first, I was worried because the backstrap metal is exposed with this grip, but this makes the grip smaller-around, so I can grip the gun in the way that the recoil does not hurt at all and I can also comfortably reach the double action trigger. The exposed metal does not pain me at all. My experience is that having a proper grip is far more important than the backstrap metal being covered by rubber. Now, I can shoot 44 magnum without any pain in my hand.

    Good morning, Jason, now you are talking, that is a beautiful revolver. I had one back in the day with was a stainless version with the short under barrel lug. But during the dark days of the Gun Buy Back, I handed it in to have it crushed. Only to find out weeks later I could have kept it, if I had only known what endorsements my license needed to be able to keep it. I am now looking for a replacement. Once you have fired one and then produce your own loads, you know what a magnificent gun it is to shoot. I actually did a 96 round Service match once. The other competitors spent their time cringing and not paying attention to their targets. I noticed you single actioned the gun, that is just sad. Only old people and women shoot single action. 😁 I am now allowed to shoot single action as I am now an old age pensioner/veteran. And by the way the gun was embarrassed by your double action attempt. You need to find the sweet spot. It's not about showing people that you have a 44 magnum, owning one means you don't have to show off. People just respect you. It's a thing, trust me.

    If you look at guns as tools you might see the use for some people for this weapon. I live in Montana and my .44 gets used as a pack gun that can keep me safe against the 4 legged predators. It'd be harder to carry a PCC in the woods, not impossible but harder. I get the need to practice with your guns and wheel guns do have a learning curve to be proficient with them which this gun is hard to practice with for a lot of reasons for sure.
