Really nice video! I came to your channel from The Tim Traveller's mention. Love a walk along an old railway. I'd love to do The Middlewood Way in the future. I did manage to do The old New Mills to Hayfield Line last Summer which is really pleasant!
Thanks Henry! I did the Sett Valley Trail in (I think) November - just before lockdown. I thought it was a nice walk but there are so many options around there that I don’t think I’d do it again unless it was part of a bigger round.
Just sat in my room bored and had a random thought. 'Where is the highest point of salford?' I never thought I'd find a cute little vid about it! Thank you :)
Strange coincidence, I rode my bike along Newcombe Drive on today's ration of exercise. Maybe sometime soon I'll ride to there, then to the highest point in Bolton, wherever that is...
Oh but you missed the canal at Ashton Field....and the locks! Bringing the coal up...the cut still clearly there. And Hilltop is more romantic and scenic than Newcombe Drive. How many metres difference? Can we build a mound at Hill Top to reclaim the record?
Thanks for your comment Diana. I love the locks at Ashton Field, but I think I'm best sticking to one destination at a time to keep myself in line with the social distancing guidance! The highest point at Hill Top is 108m. The green space at Ashton Field around the is about the same altitude actually...
Michael Quigley - where do you think the lowest point is? A quick glance at the map throws up a few potential options all in the Irlam and Cadishead areas. The banks of the Glaze at Cadishead are 14m above sea level but there are some other points which are below the 15m contour.
I posted this question on the I&C group on Facebook and we had an interesting discussion. There are three areas which are below the 15m contour. The first is the banks of the Ship Canal. I'm discounting this because it is man-made. The second is the area in Irlam around the Boat House Inn and nearby Riverside Avenue. The third is the banks of the Glaze in Cadishead, which has a spot height of 14m on the OS map. I might just visit both and then have a pint in the pub.
Very sensible to do this in spring to avoid avalanche season.
I'm planning to do this for my London Borough, an even more insane 35m above sea level!
Hello there down in Hounslow!
@@iainlindley Indeed, may not be the best borough, but we got the best joke in Jay's latest video on London :)

How long did you train for this brutal ascent?
Gunther Schmidl my walks in the Lake District were just a warm-up for this epic trek...

Thank you! This was my first attempt at a TH-cam video so it is a little rusty around the edges. ☺️
Nice touch about the social distancing awareness!
Nice video dude, what an incredible hike 😜
More epic walks dude!
Congrats on getting to the summit without bottled oxygen.

It'll be Winter Hill, near the mast, about 10 miles from Newcombe Drive. Not a bad ride.
Emyr Derfel yup, it’s a proper hill and everything!

Hi Diana, thought my new video might be of interest: th-cam.com/video/vciBQ7OzHuc/w-d-xo.html
I look forward to seeing your walk into the Salford Valley (Salford's lowest point).
Always open to suggestions!

@@iainlindley like you, I've only had a quick glance and Cadishead Way seems most likely, but requires a bit more research.
