I Grew up in Wilmington NC and played Little League baseball against Roman. I was 9 1/2 years old and Roman was 12. He was a pitcher and i faced him one time. He looked like he was 7ft tall on the mound. What was probably my first prayer to God was that he would throw 3 straight strikes and i could go back to the dugout. I can still feel my knees shaking from that one time at bat. He was a class act and a very humble person and one of the best all around athletic from NC.
RIP Roman we will miss you, my memory with roman is when I talked to him on the phone when he was working with the carolina panthers radio show he called me back and we talked about football he told me he got hit pretty hard but he also told me it was a previlage and honor to have played with the NFL. Roman was not only a legend on the field but also off the field!
His QB stats compare very favorably with other NFL hall of fame QB's. He was an iconic player and did well with a weak Eagles team. He was a solid citizen and NFL rep in every way. He should be in the NFL hall of fame for the era of the 1960's.
Roman was the QB's coach at College of The Desert in Palm Desert, Can in 1978-79. His oldest son Robin (Roman III) was our QB. I still remember going to his house after a Monday practice for grilled steaks because Robin never even got hit in the game Saturday at IVC. Rest in Peace Coach Gabriel!
I hope the writers see to getting Roman Gabriel in the Hall !!!! He I believe had 30 thousand career yards when primarily played 14 game seasons not 17 or even the 16 game seasons! He might of went 0 and 2 in the playoffs he was as tough as they come and was league mvp and should have had another with the Eagles He was one of my favorites growing up and also glad he was a Philadelphia Eagles!!! RIP Roman 🙏
I was lucky to see him play in the NFL. He was with the Eagles and played the Cowboys at the old Cowboys stadium back in the mid-70's! As a fellow Filipino-American, it was an honor to see him play, albeit at the end of his playing days. I watched him play on TV when he was with the Rams. He made me proud!
I was going to name my son after him, he was my favorite player in the NFL, but I had two girls instead. Now I'm 80, but still definitely would of wanted A son to carry his name. He and Jim Brown are still my favorite players.

What great guy and an even better Quarterback. That 1973 Eagles Team finally had a winning attitude. I believe one of the toughest players of all time. Thanks, Roman for all the great memories!
my family migrated from the Philippines to USA in 1971. I didn't know what football was then but when I got to know the game. I found out that Roman Gabriel was part Filipino. Ever since then I followed him, and his team. The LA Rams was my favorite team. When he got traded to the Eagles, I followed him. He got to throw to receivers like big, tall Harold Carmichael #17 and Charles Young #86. It's too bad Roman Gabriel never went to the Super Bowl. I really enjoyed watching him play football. I miss him. RIP Mr. G.

It sounds like Roman isn’t in the NFL Hall of Fame. I certainly think the Hall should consider him. I remember that he, Bradshaw, and Namath were three guys from that era that were really good. Of course Johnny Unitas is in there too although I’m pretty sure Unitas is in the Hall. Anyways, bon voyage Roman! It was fun watching you when I was a kid.
Of course I remember Roman Gabriel. Condolences to the family. I know that George Allen's daughter Jennifer was close to him; in fact one of her sons is named after him. Condolences to her and family as well.
I loved watching Roman Gabriel. I had good fortune when a sophomore in high school meeting him. My English teacher knew him. When the teacher took us to Manhattan for dinner and a movie, Roman joined us for dinner. I still have his autograph.
Romans's second wife was Tredra Bidwell, her brother and I went to junior high school and high school together at Redondo High in Redondo Beach CA. Mark Bidwell and I played in the same rock and roll band in the 1960s. Whenever Roman came over to visit his inlaws the kids in the neighborhood would all come around to say hi and ask for autographs!!!
@@dbcooper692 My folks moved to RB in 77. They lived on Calle Mayor. I imagine the kids were from the first wife. I knew Robin and Ram. They were good in high school, college, I don't know? Have anyone ever noticed that the Los Angeles Rams' blue jerseys that they wore from 1966 to 1972 are remarkably similar to the Dallas Cowboys ' blue jerseys that they wore from 1964 to 1980 ?
I was no fan of his teams but Roman was a terrific passer, especially if you consider his era. I think he took on my Vikings many times and he gave defenses a headache with his arm. Anyways I saw today he died and it’s just another great one gone.

He came to promote a still open Burger King when it first opened in 1972. The Burger King is at the intersection of Rivers Avenue and Aviation Avenue in North Charleston, SC. He was outside at a table with a stack of photos he would sign for you even though it had a pre-printed signature so you knew you were getting the real deal. Tanned and handsome like Elvis. Grew up in NFL territory as a Redskin fan & Balto. Colts were nearby. Relished watching 'Skins road games on TV @ 1:00 on CBS & was equally pleased if 4:00 o'clock game was 49ers/Rams match-up featuring John Brodie vs. Roman Gabriel. Of course the Rams went to the playoffs with Roman Gabriel. Always had to play Green Bay and the Vikings in the ice and snow. I agree with you about Jim Plunket. He won 2 super bowls and came back from a bad shoulder injury because an idiot coach in New England had him running option plays in the NFL as a rookie! Roman had better career stats than Jim Plunket but they should both in in the HOF. The Raiders coach, Tom Flores, should be in too.
