  • The Visconti Homo Sapiens is often considered to be a "holy grail" fountain pen among many fountain pen enthusiasts. The Visconti brand as a whole felt this way for me, so I'm beyond excited to be an authorized Visconti retailer, allowing me to offer this particular fountain pen to you. The Homo Sapiens is the only fountain pen that I know of that is made of actual volcanic rock!
    The Homo Sapiens is available in a variety of trim options, from the rose gold Bronze Age to the stealthed out black Dark Age to the metallic red Magma edition.
    The nib is made of 23kt Palladium (though began transitioning to 18kt gold in late 2019) and is extremely wet, and incredibly smooth. The Hook Safe Lock provides a unique and satisfying cap closure. It fills via Visconti's power filler vacuum system.
    We're extremely excited to be adding this one-of-a-kind fountain pen to Goulet Pens! For information on the latest versions, more pictures, and technical specs on the Visconti Homo Sapiens, check out GouletPens.com.

    I mean. I get why people say it's stupid to spend so much on a pen... But don't people spend way too much on say...belts and other designer accessories? I'd take a way expensive pen over a way expensive designer belt any day.

    What put me over the price and into the realm of purchasing one was the fact that by absorbing my hand oils and sweat I am able to write for hours upon hours comfortably, unlike most other pens with few exceptions. Being in a field of education requiring extreme amounts of research and note taking I got over the price and am very pleased with that decision.

    I have this pen and it is FANTASTIC. I originally bought it with a bold nib but it ate ink and was way too bold so I went to medium, which cost me more than most pens, and that was a match made in heaven and I use it daily. Tons of compliments I’ll have it the rest of my life so to me it’s worth the $

    I love the double-broad Homo Sapiens that you guys special ordered for me (thank you!), and yeah--if the "regular" nibs (i.e. fine, medium, etc.) are wet, that double-broad is basically a paint brush. But in the best possible way! I adore the way it writes. I typically take a different "nice" pen to work with me every day, but the Homo Sapiens has found its way into my laptop bag every day since I got it. You need some sturdy paper to handle the fire hose of ink that it puts out, but it's sooooo worth it. With a nicely-shading ink in it (I've been using my beloved Noodler's Antietam), it's about the most enjoyable writing experience I've ever had.
    It's made out of freaking volcano!

      +Nicole Look-Christensen (The Recliner Jockey) haha, I'm surprised that doesn't work! He has heard you but he hasn't really listened. No joke, the lava rock used comes from Mt. Etna in Sicily, and it is harvested from a hermit that lives inside the volcano. Visconti had to develop a special mixture of volcanic rock and resin so the pen would hold ink since it's naturally such a hygroscopic material. It's really cool! It's made of FREAKING LAVA! -Brian Goulet

      It's not the easiest. You can't disassemble, or see inside so you just have to keep bringing water into the pen and expelling it until it flows clear. Using non-permanent inks makes this pretty short work though. - Colin

    Hi Brian I liked your review on visconty bronze age .I have a small handwriting so I think ef nib would be suitable. Recently I purchased a Lamy 2000 medium nib but I think that is a bit on the broader side according to my standard/estimation. I was a bit confused over pelican souveran m1000 and homosapiens bronze age. Pelican is way too expensive and its inconsistency regarding the nib size is quite disconcerting. After purchasing an expensive pen and sending it to a nib meister to get it writing is not what I wanted. If I order from you can you ship it to India. Also please explain the filling mechanism, it's a bit confusing. In Lamy 2000 we just need to unscrew and tighten the knob. In bronze age do we have to turn the knob and pull it all the way back? I didn't get it. Please reply

    I'm new to fountain pens. I recently tried three different ones that I ordered from Amazon and found them, well, not very appealing. I had returned all three. I've been researching fountain pens and I have finally settled on the Homo sapien. The videos here are an amazing selling point. My order is actually still pending from Goulet. Gosh I hope that ships soon… Hint :-) i've also been dabbling into calligraphy, although it looks more like a Child learning penmanship at this point. Finding educational content for this is my other latest research endeavor.

    This pen is making me drool. 10 years ago or so when I got into pens I thought my Lamy Studio was my wish list pen.... Still one of my favorite pens. But I somehow wound up with 7 or 8 safaris, a Metropolitan and a few Kawcos. A few other misc. But if I knew then what I know now I would have gotten one and not the others and saved for something like this. The drool on my desk right now is overflowing!

    Hello, are these the very same nibs that Visconti used on their Opera Elements pens? I wanted to get a Cherry Juice Opera Elements pen, but I kept reading unfavourable reviews about poor ink flow. Supposedly they used a Dreamtouch nib, but maybe it's a different generation. For a pen of that price ($600), I don't feel that I should have to send it out for tweaking. Anyway, your H.S. pen writes nicely, but did you notice any trouble with ink flow, skips, etc.? Thanks.

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They look similar but I'd have to confirm if they're actually the same or not. I haven't had any flow issues with the Homo Sapiens in any of the pens I've tested, if anything it's very generous and maybe too wet for some! I hear ya, pens in this price deserve to write well, we can test it for you upon purchase if you request it in your order comments -Brian

    Brian, for the Visconti Bronze Homosapiens, do you need to unscrew the back of the pen since it is a power filler (vacuum filler) in order to allow the ink to flow from the storage well to the feed when writing for a long period of time?

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What lesslighter said. You'll want to unscrew the back if you write a lot, though I haven't had to do that much in my daily writing yet. The feed is pretty long and holds decent ink. -Brian

    So I've seen your guy's beginner videos and ive never held a fountain pen before in my life but a friend of mine recommended that I should get one seeing how I enjoy writing in cursive or writing in general.
    I was hoping if you guys might be able to recommend a pen to someone who has large hands, writes in cursive, and is willing to put in the practice. The previous video I watched really got me interested in "flex pens" for the line variations. Thank you for these helpful informative video by the way!

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Flex pens can be pretty finicky, so I'd steer clear of those to start. But if you're looking for line variation, stub nibs can achieve that without much of a headache. A large lightweight like the Conklin All American has a stub nib option. Jinhao x750 as well, but you would need to buy a stub nib to swap onto it. - Colin

      The Aurora Optima is a great option as well, it ticks a lot of the boxes one might want in a pen of this price range (gold nib, beautiful material, piston filler). Beyond that, Pelikan M800/M1000 are classics that have stood the test of time. There's also Namiki which can run higher in price, but the quality and craftsmanship is elite.
