  • The song is ''Farewell" by BERNTH.
Short video of my first time spearfishing in NZ, saw the shark on my first dive down so I didn't want to go far from shore and shoot a fish as I figured the shark would just come and collect his taxes.
Expect some more and longer videos in the near future. As winter comes around in NZ I have less daylight hours so lots of time to edit videos I have already filmed + with my new job I get a week off at a time so I'll be able to do some more interesting trips

Shooting Red Moki is not something most NZ spearfishermen would be proud of, pretty much a no go fish. They are very slow growing, slow producers, and live a longtime up until about 100 years old and don’t move far, once you take a few out from an area they are gone for a very long time. The one you just shot was probably living in that small patch of reef for close to 40 years helping to maintain the eco system such as keeping the kina population down. Challenge yourself and go for more pelagic fish such as snapper, trevally etc...Plus its a lot more fun..Moki will just sit there and smile at you

Yep, as I put at the end of video I don't target them anymore. A guy told me that on my walk back from shooting that one. I was ignorant but now I go for other fish. Have got a few blue cods and tarakihi and just waiting for summer in the Marlborough sounds so I can target some snapper and maybe even kingfish.

Good suggestion, thanks. I'm gonna try going for some next weekend and will try to shoot a video. I never take more than I can eat or share with those I'm with in one meal here in NZ

You got iron balls to go in shark infested waters with such a visibility ´ maybe you ll be lucky to see one of those huge GW you re looking for ´ but if one of those predates and your the target ’ which I hope you won’t ‘ well then you won’t see em’ comin especially in murky waters or low visibility waters ´
    Stay safe mate 👌

ONE shark equals "shark infested waters"? Um, they live there. It is their home. They do not "infest" the waters. Quite frankly surprised you didn't also use the term "lurking".

Humans are not the target of sharks

If you fear being near a sshark, stay out of the water. They're attracted to fish in pain.

Beautiful footage full of atmospheric taste. Its a dusky shark or maybe bronze whaler?

Sharks are pretty chill normally. I've swam/dove with tons of them. This one is what I would call a tax collector as he comes after hearing the speargun shot to steal your fish

Bronze's don't ever attack. I've done all my diving around the salmon farms where there are countless numbers of them . Although I did get told off by my manager for posting a video of me holding a fin and getting a ride by one 😅

To swim in shark-infested waters, you'll need a larger toothpick.

I want to check out bluff down on the south end of the south. Heard there's big crays, paua and some huge great whites! Need to see one of those underwater

No "shark infested" waters were shown in the video. One small whaler. ONE INDIVIDUAL! One dude! How can one individual create an infestation?

What shark is that? Maybe a young bull?
