    That’s a perfect way to associate the need for a rigid container. Also, the strength of the rigid container may need to be even more rigid for individuals of greater weight. Same with a pizza; if the pizza is 3 feet in diameter, the base of the plate loading the pizza must be wider as well as reinforced with thickness. This ensures that the cremation is done with the highest dignity and respect and also that your extra large pizza is cooked properly.

    Kari, That was a very good analogy. I had never considered that detail, but now I have a good understanding. We have the best pizza in Baltimore. Called Matthews Pizza. Their history predates the history of the “pizza box” and the pizza is amazing. I wonder how long a pizza would cook in a retort…lol maybe 30 seconds…… Wondering if I would try something new like Polish or French… Probably just stick with the Italian I grew up with. If the job comes alone. I’ll send a photo eating Pizza outside the RETORT….. CHIO…

  • @scottbrandon9390
    @scottbrandon9390 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In England it is common to have funeral services in a chapel attached to a crematorium. The coffin is placed on a conveyor belt at the front of the chapel at the end of service. Mourners then get to see the coffin go through a small "door" which leads to the crematorium oven.

  • @NJ-Cathie
    @NJ-Cathie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why not have a stainless steel baking type sheet to capture the remains? At the end of the cycle the remains can be placed in a container and returned to the family.
    This container requirement really seems like a waste of natural resources (wood).

    • @KaritheMortician
      @KaritheMortician  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You possibly could but it exposes the staff to the deceased when they are not trained for that so it would mean more training and such is all

    • @fshrmn74
      @fshrmn74 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because of a few things: The bones must cool down before they can ne handled to go through the next process and the crematoriums are usually busy where they don't have the space a full size sheet of metal would require to be set aside during the cooling process. Since it takes at least a couple hours to cremate someone at temperatures well above 1000 degrees, that would require much more time for a metal to cool that could survive those temperatures. Also, the one set of bones/cremains is usually cooling while the next person/body is being cremated. I'm sure kari can explain this in much better detail than I can

      @randyfritz2094 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Dawn Player
      Yes, you can, the funeral directors may not like it ( it cuts into their profits). We did this for my dad, he wanted to be buried in a plain casket ( Pennsylvania). There is no law that states you must only purchase a casket/ coffin from a funeral director. The Amish/ Old Order Mennonites, Horse and Buggy people ( plain folk) have a cabinet maker ( this started with a furniture store making caskets/ coffins and cabinet makers) also making the casket/ coffins that the deceased will be buried in. It is a plain casket/ coffin , no ornamentation, plain handles, the interior is just done up in white muslin. The deceased is taken the the funeral home, embalmed, just dressed in underclothes ( the family might dress them/ or the funeral director may do this also). They do NOT use much makeup on the deceased. The deceased female is usually dressed in a white dress, cape ( over the dress) and white head covering. The men may be dressed in dark pants, white shirt ( no tie), if the man was a bishop or minister, he would probably be dressed in a suite with a buttoned up collar on the suite. The family would sit with the deceased in the parlor, they would take turns, relatives stop by the late residence or family members home where the wake is ( 24 hrs) 2-3 days till the service at the house would start. Then the body is loaded into a horse drawn hearse and driven to the church for a service in the church or outside viewing, they may sing songs, read srcipture. The casket has a small window for viewing the deceased. The deceased is the taken to adjoining cemetery and lowered into a rough pine box and buried. They believe the body should be allowed to decay as soon as possible without fancy caskets, vaults. The are NO FLOWERS at all....unless the congregation or church district is as strict with it's rules....There is no eulogy or preaching at the service, they do not talk about heaven or hell. I know this because I grew up in Southeastern Lancaster Co., in PA., among these people, we even had an Old Order Mennonite housekeeper for 5 years...After the burial the families go to a relatives house for a big meal, which is done in shifts, everything is homemade ( funeral pie- raisin pie) if the family has a farm, people get together and do the chores, field work ( house work) the house that the viewing is taking place at is usually cleaned from top to bottom by others ....etc., so the immediate family doesn't have worry about taking care of things. Also these people would not usually endorse a deceased person be cremated, that goes against the beliefs and they feel it's an abomination to God...desecration of the body, it isn't being kept whole, just as they were created.

    Thank you for the explanation. I do understand the need for some kind of containment in order to properly place the body. I am trying to decide which option i prefer for my own death. I have buried my first born and mother. My husband wanted to be cremated. I abided by my husbands wishes then i burried some of the ashes in our family plot . I bought a head stone with his info as well as mine on it. I am thinking I may prefer cremation also and my ashes be placed along side my husbands under our joint headstone. . Not 100% sure but leaning to that as of now. I think cremation is more sanitary and cleaner for the earths water table. I am against the embalming procedures as I feel it is undignified as well as to invasive to the decreased. My opinion only.

      @@KaritheMortician your lucky. The people I saw dead and I know that died I have nightmares about. Also I take it that all funeral directors and medical examiner s are extremely thin because as much as I like eating after being around dead people all day long the last thing I wanna do is eat. I may wanna have a drink though a strong one

    Now that we’re on the topic, do you use something to absorb leakage in the box while awaiting cremation, or do you bag the body?
