*hears the "too iconic" reasoning regarding Sol Ring* Okay anyone gonna tell these guys that Pot of Greed, the OG YGO draw spell (for anyone reading this unfamiliar with YGO, cards are the only resource outside of spending LP on certain effects so I think it's a fair equivalent here), has been banned for MULTIPLE YGO GENERATIONS & thus that is no excuse for them?
That's another reason I didn't like the "too iconic" thing, especially since either Sol Ring or Black Lotus are the Pot of Greed of Magic. Like, again, the justification is totally there...I just don't feel they did a good job giving it.
So I've barely played mtg, and am a yugioh degenerate first. So, I'm filtering this through my understanding of the worst card game. 1:06 Nadu honestly looks like a Maxx C that's guaranteed to be in the opening hand. Maybe going +1 in mtg is weaker overall, but I wouldn't be surprised if the quotes were supposed to go before the twice per turn stipulation. 3:15 Oh god, is this just Firewall Dragon but worse for you guys? 11:25 oof, definitely felt that one. One of the main reasons the TCG side of Yugioh has been on fire lately (in that people aren't showing up for events) is due to this exact problem. We're currently in a two deck format, and either deck will run you $2k. This isn't a problem in the OCG cause Konami keeps short printing cards in the west. Mostly by taking meta relevent or engine piece cards and making them secret rare only cards. As in, they wouldn't get a common version at all.
Nadu isn't really Maxx C. It's more of an engine that lets you operate your deck. See, the idea is that you use things that let you target your own creatures and draw a bunch of cards, normally used alongside other cards that let you generate tokens easily. Looking up Firewall Dragon, I don't know how that relates to what I was saying about Sol Ring; didn't it actually get banned, though? Was it a case where they held off because it was heavily featured in the anime? This isn't the first time I've seen YGO's metagame center around 1-2 decks that were ridiculously expensive, and in fact one of the *many* formats where this happened was the point where I kind of pushed the game to the side, in part for that exact reason. I will say that MTG decks don't typically reach $2k in any format other than Legacy or Vintage (and in Vintage's case, they can be the price of literal houses, that's not as much of an exaggeration as you'd hope it is), and that includes Commander.
@Boonslayer thank you for the response. This was interesting to read. In regards to Sol Ring, I was saying that it sounded like a worse instance of Firewall Dragon. As both are cards who avoided the banlist for external game reasons, but at least we eventually had our problem card banned where yours wasn't. Firewall Dragon was the ace monster for the at the protagonist of the anime, so they refused to ban it for a long time. It eventually got banned, then errated. Oh, I'm fully aware that yugioh had other moments like the one we're currently in, I was just using it as an example. Though now that you mentioned mtg's other formats, man, I wish we had those officially. If for no other reason then we could then have set rotation.
Glad to see you feeling better after what happened

Ayo, MTG lore vids gonna drop?
I'm not 100% sure about lore vids, I tend to be more into the game than the lore. Well, see, tho. :)
@@Boonslayer Hee yeah.
