      Mods and restorations are a lot of fun to do. It's funny but when I look at my edc items most of them have either been made or modified.

    I really wanted to like this tool, but apart from the pliers and bit driver I feel like it falls short. The outside tools all feel very cheap to me. Your mods elevate it though!

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's why I called it a light duty multitool. It is a tool that I carry when I don't expect to need one. For example, going to church. My tool of choice for edc is a modified Leatherman P2. I carry it in a belt sheath everyday. I always have at least one knife and a multitool on me. The Sog makes sure that I can have one no matter how I am dressed.

      Yep the classic Horrible Fraud 1X30! I have a nice 2X72 for making knives, but it is a bit much for a small mod. Plus, when possible I like to use tools that are more accessible to a lot of people.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sometimes I carry bits, but the tool should be a bit more complete without extra bits. The mods have worked out great. If you are handy, give it a try. Most of the time I carry a Leatherman P4 or ARC. Both are great tools. I just put up a video of the mods I did to an ARC. Check it out if you are interested.

    Great Mods. To my scissors I ground off (using a Dremel sanding disc) a little bit of the nub that captures the end of the spring, so I can rotate the handle out sideways. Then, using small needle nose pliers, I carefully bent the spring out more. Now I can open up the scissors a lot more.
    Also, the scissors are in a left-hand configuration so in order for them to work well you must apply sideways pressure in the opposite direction from a normal pair of scissors. Then they cut very well.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great mod on the scissors. I'll have to look at mine, they could stand to open up wider!

    I have the same tool and I paired it up with a powerful mini flashlight that’s connected with the tool via a quick disconnect keychain. The flashlight had a flat sided body and I attached an adhesive cable holder that’s rubbery and can hold a double sided bit for the screw holder. Now I carry the pair in my pocket because I don’t wear a belt these days for a pouch

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That sounds like a good solution since you don't wear a belt. I wouldn't know what to do without a belt. I carry a lot of stuff on it!

    I cannot believe someone at SOG did not think of turning the end of the file into a flathead screwdriver. That just seems like a no-brainer to me. I would be a little hesitant to turn the bottle opener into a screwdriver as the metal is pretty thin going out to that tip. I am sure it would be fine for very light duty stuff, but I could see that snapping easily if it got torqued wrong. I also kind of feel the same way about the can opener.
    That was a great video, by the way! Thanks for sharing!

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I am glad that you found the video useful. The bottle opener is not that bad as long as you don't apply a heavy hand. It is a small light duty tool, but after the mods it is much more useful. I like having a good compliment of drivers built into the tool. I just did a few ARC mods and am in the process of modding a P2 and P4. I just can't leave things alone!😂

    • @NOBODYNOSE1
      @NOBODYNOSE1 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I feel the same. I narrowed the file down into a 5.5 x 1mm flat and called it a day after that.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@NOBODYNOSE1 I think that adding a flat on the end of the file is the most useful of all the mods. It is what SOG should have done.

      It's a good one after a few mods! I still have one more mod to make on the can opener.

  • @ayyydood
    @ayyydood 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Good work! I use the tip of the can opener to make a micro Phillips driver. A 2 dimensional driver of course. I modeled it after the fingernail file on the Victorinox Alox Cadet because there was a couple times the fingernail file really came in handy for that. I also sharpened the outside of the gut hook and it works really well to pry small things apart like electronics. Makes a good scraper too.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was thinking about copying the tip of a Victorinox can opener! Just haven't gotten around to it yet. These are great light duty multitools after the mods. It is good to see someone else modding them too! I never thought about doing anything with the gut hook, thanks for the idea!

    • @ayyydood
      @ayyydood 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LastChanceKnives Oh yeah, the powerpint definitely needs work to be more useful. The only other mod I did, besides the ones in your video, was to give the Philips driver a straight shaft instead of that weird triangular shaft. Lots of screws are recessed in deep holes and the powerpints Phillips driver won't fit into a hole.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ayyydood That is another good idea! I get so many ideas from comments. As an IT guy I run into recessed screws quite often.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A bigger Philips would be a nice addition. I would like to find a way to carry a small #2 bit on the tool itself since the tool works great as a handle for 1/4" bits.

    Great review. I've always liked the SOG range but wish they were made here.
    I'd love to do you mods but I don't have a belt sander. I'd have to do it the hard way with a rounded file.

    • @LastChanceKnives
      @LastChanceKnives  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The little belt sander that I used is from Harbor Freight. I had a coupon and bought it for $30 three or four years ago. It comes in handy for so many mods, well worth the purchase. You could do most of it with a file if you had to, just take your time and be accurate with each stroke.
