Hey everyone, Martyn here! 👋 I wonder if you would help me by filling out a survey for an upcoming video? I'm making a video called 'The Most Stylish Riders In Mountain Biking!'. It will be a 'Top Of The Pops' style rundown, it should be really cool. I've created a Google Form that helps me create a score for each rider on the list so far. If you'd like to help then head over to this form and rate the riders for yourself. 🥇 Survey Link 🔗👉 gmbn.eu/StylishRidersForm 👈🔗 I really appreciate your time!
The survey results will be untypical due to the sample of people coming forward and country/age/audience/ demographics . My hope is that people from smaller countries and upcoming talents will get recognised here . Even if the contributors need to provide content for these riders for consideration . Don't forget to praise the Olympians and Paralympians from France this year . My vote goes to criterium cyclist , the late Melissa Hosking who was killed by her husband in December 2022 . I met her at the U.C.I. road program in Wollongong a few months prior to this . She perched on my Trek hardtail mountain bike briefly after a lunch .
As a mountain biker I had a blast when I entered a 25 mile gravel race. It was a bit overwhelming up to the start of the race, but I quickly found that my MTB skills helped immensely and I had a blast. Since then I have started road riding every now and then and I definitely feel the difference when pedaling on MTB rides.
#gmbn my weakness is endurance and getting rigid when it’s rough. I get tired and can’t see to process all the rapid rough terrain. But I love enduro races 🤷🏽♂️
We should have a new MTB race series to see who is the best mountain biker overall. Riders should be given only one bike to use and have to complete an XC style course, a trail course, endudo, downhill, dirt jump, and trials. The highest combined score from all events wins 😀
This is not competition wise, but I’ve been watching your videos again and it’s massively inspired me to get back on my bike after 2 years, bought myself a new Canyon Spectral Mullet CF 160 and got my GMBN gear back out and hopefully riding this weekend, just want to say thank you for giving me my inspiration back and I’ll be posting my progress as I want to go places I’ve never been and push myself to be a better rider once again, hope to see you out on the trails somewhere, and congrats on the 2 million subscribers I’ve been watching you since end of 2016 and still an amazing channel 🙂🙂👍
A friend asked me to join him for Crank The Shield across northern Ontario this year, but I'm a casual hardtail MTB'r and don't feel remotely qualified or fit enough to attempt it. Sure felt great to be asked though!
Mate, let the idea percolate. Maybe right now that event feels too much. However, if you spend the next 6 months with the possibility in your head, you might be in a very different mindset and confidence. Honestly, you’d be amazed the difference a bit of ‘manifesting’ can make. ❤
@@martynashtonGMBN Damn you Martyn, you beautiful human being you! With this inspiration I did every single trail but the reds/double-blacks at my local bike park yesterday. 33 km, where my typical 'long ride' there is 15-18. It didn't kill me, and you've definitely given me something to chew on. Video idea: Send Rich or Blake to Crank the Shield next year... :)
Weaknesses: endurance/distance- when I get to the point where I start losing my vision, balance, sense of fun, it makes me ask why I’m doing it for. Other weaknesses: aerial awareness, I do like jumps, drops, step ups, and step downs, but I tend to get squarely in their off of steeper lips. I enjoy it, just not where I want to be yet.

Jumping, the feeling of being in the air and going forward uncontrollably scares me, going to build a ramp and practice and repeat in a field slowly progressing and getting bigger
@@charlo4682 Don't worry jumping scares everyone! (it's important to respect jumps), even the best pros get that same feeling you are getting but they have practiced on a lot of different jumps and progress over time time.
Jumping for sure. I used to race BMX and take huge jumps no problem (I was 20 years younger as well) I’m OK with drops and table top jumps. The fear of casing a big gap jump usually keeps me away from them.
I’m terrible in general at mtb because I don’t get enough time to ride as much as I’d like. But I’ll never give it up, love it too much even if I suck.
What are my weaknesses? Everything! I can do a passable track stand and I have decent bike/body separation, but otherwise my skills have a lonnng way to go. I agree 100% that going onto new and more challenging trails gives a boost to skills, but I think it has to be combined with focused skills/trials training.
enduro/downhill style rider here. I love steep techy tracks and feel like this is where I probably excel however I find that I'm not the most gifted at jumps, have rode some quite big jumps in bike parks etc with relative success but feel like this is an area that I could do with brushing up on. I have recently bought a dirt jump bike and have been spending some timing practicing riding steeper take offs and working on my technique, I'm hoping it'll transfer to some improvement on my bigger bike, fingers crossed!
The one thing I need to get better at. Is jumping Pinkeye. I never really learnt to jump. As when I started mountain biking. The headtude would have a really bad falling out with the rest of the frame and snap off. Bank Holiday Monday I went to Dyfi BikePark. The first tabletop on Lovey Dyfi. I found out how big they are. I also found out 2 other things. How steep the take off is and How much faster I needed to hit the other tabletops. Just to get on the top of them. The only part of my time there was I didn't feel out of my depth. Was the car park to the café.
I’m just back from trying Dyfi for the first time too. You are not alone in being overwhelmed by that place. It is hard. Congrats on pushing yourself though. Dyfi needs a few chilled Blues in my opinion. Next time I’ll have a coffee with you in the car park. 😅
Currently signed up for an enduro-style trail race (XC segments rather than downhill) and my 2nd gravel race. After that? A 6-hour trail race. Mixing it up to keep it fun.
Bang on with the gymnastics. My son has always done gymnastics since a young age. His body awareness and capability when trying other sports is top notch.
I cannot manual or wheelie to save my life, following the video from you guys did squat for me, my wheelies/manuals consist of more fork movement than holding the manual
Literally mountain biking was the thing I was afraid of. Like serious mountain biking. Jumps and switchbacks and speed through the trees. All of that scared me. That’s why I started doing this haha. It’s been about a month of really going hard and I love it. Still scared.
Back in the golden teenages, I did a couple of 24h xc races, in a team relay format. These days I'm more interested in enduro... but! I would love to get back to 24h after around 20 years it and do one of those solo. Already signed up for one of those, but it got canceled.

weakness : wheelies fml i've been riding for many years, can pull a few pedals here and there can def do drops but for the life of me cannot make that thing not fall sideways when i'm on one wheel
Why were Blake’s forks almost bottoming out thru that cone slalom on the flat I suppose the suspension could of been set to the task but surely that exercise can’t be practical without the suspension set to the trails or what ever your riding like mtb on road you try and stiffen up a bit for peddal efficiency but dh you make it supple for forgiveness but stiff enough for the big hits
When demonstrating these skills at slower speeds the rider needs to put more force into the bike to show the action. It's interesting to see how little the imput needs to be when the technique is perfect on a trail. Riders such as Bryn Atkinson, Simon Johansson, Brandon Semenuk etc... appear to just 'float them' so the suspension hardly moves!
