From some of my own experiences and interacting with people on internet support and discussion groups for the condition, most of them are what we'd normally consider introverts, but on the higher higher end of the spectrum. So without knowing what exactly you talked about with regards to the debate around whether SPD should be considered a disorder or not, I'd be shocked if the characterizion of the condition as basically an extreme form of introversion is not the main point of contention here.

I don’t know though. I’m introverted but it’s because people drain me, but I love creating personal connections and really getting to know someone. I just get over simulated around tons of new people and it drains my energy, but it’s not that I don’t feel, understand, or care about others feelings. Ie. one lacks empathy and an ability to bond where the other is just selective with who and when they bond.

I find the example of a secret schizoid so relatable, all the scenarios for this patient feel very reminiscent of things I went through.

Isnt Nichole too paranoid? Many people paint Schizoid are just not wanting to relate with others on a personal level. But in this case there is a lot of anxiety involved.

The paranoia is more like schizotypal or schizoaffective PD.

iirc all cluster A disorders involve some sorts of paranoia, with PPD being the most extreme case.

I’m schizoid too and I related to her way of thinking, so I guess it can be normal for some of us to be I bit paranoid. It actually gave me confort hearing her thoughts because I have them too and I thought i was crazy for my paranoia.

My mom was diagnosed with Schizoid Affective disorder. Is this the same thing as Schizoid personality disorder?

It’s different-schizoaffective is a diagnosis of mood disorder + schizophrenia symptoms, whereas schizoid personality disorder is a personality disorder (a whole different category) and doesn’t involve the same symptomatology!
