Great video. Thank you. The only suggestion from my side would be to reuse the 2 feeding dishes instead of buying bulks of plastic ones and throwing them out. Must look after our environment :)
I’ve been watching loads of videos of crested gecko care. Mostly of yours and other petubers too ! My passion is animals and my aim is to be a zookeeper once I leave college. After watching your videos I’ve fallen in love with reptiles. And created geckos for me will be a great starting point ! I’m confident in all their care so much so I could make a video about it or explain it to someone. One of my mums oppositions was paying the electric bill for the heat pad and lights. But they don’t actually need them ! Thank you so much Taylor 💕 and to Echo and Phoenix for being little models
It should be fine.Just an idea but you should start mowin lawns or find some way to make money becasue youll need to afford their food.Maybe you could get a 20 gallon later n when its bigger.
What type of hardware/hinges did you use to attach the lid? And also did you glue it? I've had trouble finding glue that sticks well to the black plastic trim on aquariums.
hey taylor, waswondering when is the "introducing your betta fish into a community tank" coming out? Because I have recently ordered a betta fish from a pet store. Have a 5 10 gallon tank all set up and ready to go. But want to have it in my 25 gallon community tank
peace smile love she's most likely using a reptile terrarium. You can find them at any pet shop. This one was most likely a bearded dragon tank turned on it's side. You can find lids online, but if you're having trouble you can always get a tank with it already attached.
With my little cresties food dishes I like to have two small plastic cups, sometimes when I need to clean her dish, the food paste I use is still wet and hard to clean out. What I’ll do is use the second cup for her next meal, then by the time I need to refeed her the first dish is dry enough I can just pick out the paste, and it comes out like a little chip, or multiple! The second dish can be cleaned the same way by the next feeding time too! It’s efficient and doesn’t waste a bunch of plastic!
since this is an old video i dont think ill get a reply, but ill ask anyway! i plan to get a crestie however ive been getting conflicting information on every website i go on, mainly about the setup. some are saying they need a heat mat somewhere and a hide on the bottom, some say they must have a heat lamp, and some say they dont and i really need clarification from a trusted/seasoned owner! i was planning to get a somewhat weak lamp for the crestie ONLY for the winters if its very cold [my room gets very cold in the winter, below 70's despite having the heat on in the house] i saw in your other video that you have some sort of net hammock and was wondering if that would be a good choice rather than only leaves/vines? [plus i doubt the crestie would ever use the hut on the ground unless for shedding] i will most likely start getting everything i need during the winter [i have the same tank as you and plan to reuse it] as i believe the best idea would to get the crestie during the spring/close to summer to help save money for the lamp [the lamps/bulbs i use are a bit expensive] and to ensure my future crestie wont get extra stressed from the cold/moving to my home i apologize if any of my information is wrong/bad for the crested gecko, this would be a first crestie for me and would love for any and every corrections! thank you/anyone for reading and possibly helping!
ScribbledTale i use a heat mat because crested geckos like to stay warm ( well mine does anyway) . Also most people say not to put the food on the ground because they like to climb but my crested gecko 🦎 (echo) has absolutely no problem eating of the floor and he has a hut on the floor of his cage that he is always hiding in and sleeping in, but everyone's gecko is different especially mine because he prefers to drink from a water dish rather than the mist from the spray bottle
that's because im a thorough person plus a good owner would try to go into depth and try to find out everything they need to know, and i rather not have to wait a month per reply when i can literally just post everything i want/need to know about, not to mention this comment is over a month old and i dont need anyones service any longer was that still too long to you?
Hello, ive had a crestie for about 3 years now and im not a lizard expert but i hope this helps. i understand you, most videos on youtube say that they don't need a heat source but i highly recommend one. For mine i have 2 heat lamps, one which is hotter to use during winter and one that is cooler to use during the summer (It's usually cold here during the sumer). I also recommend that you buy a thermometer to make sure that it doesn't get too hot or cold. I would also not use heat mats as there have been stories of cresties buring their feet on them. I don't have any hammocks for mine but i do have fake flowers, braches and other things to climb. As long as the things you put in the tank promote climbing it should be okay. I also feel that it's good to change up your tank now and again by adding new things to climb so they don't get bored. My gecko also likes to go on the floor to eat so i also have a hide for him. He also only drinks from a water bowl so i recommend getting one (it also helps to keep humidity)
thank you so much for replying!! after my comment i got one [more like a few weeks] and got a juvenile; the seller also sold already set-up kits so i didnt have to full out buy a new tank [its a plastic container for some reason i didnt think to do this] it came with a mossy carpet of some sort, several leaves, three wooden sticks and two sticks covered in the same mossy stuff. it also came with a magnetic ledge for food though i failed to buy the cups for it, so i had to go out and find similar cups and i have to cut them to the right size to each feeding this week however, i noticed a bit of mold had spotted up on the lid of the tub [the previous night i had to use a heating mat despite what you just posted, its only 1/4 on the bottom of the container and it dropped very low that night] i cleaned it off with the proper cleaning supplies and decided to see if the bottom had burned from the heating mat as i was very hesitant to use it, and thats when i found out the moss carpet of some sort either had mold all over it, or the moss was soaked from my spraying it tore off pieces of the paper on the bottom. i was a bit panicked, but i cleaned everything inside the container and the container itself and let it dry out. i should have taken pictures so i could possibly show you to determine if it was mold or not, hopefully it wasnt as i doubt thats good for the crestie and plus im pretty allergic to molds. im also not quite sure of its age, im sure i could email them as the container said 4/29/16, though mines clearly not a year old and i assume its just meaning to say '17 and not '16, though im concerned with their weight as theyre not underweight, just not really gaining any at all. i assume this is where feeders once a week or two come into play? sorry for the long message, im the type of person to ramble and go into a lot of depth, thanks again!
Where did you purchase the screen for the tank? I made a mistake buy of a white's tree frog & plan on flipping a 20 gal fish tank to make it vertical for him.
Beautiful set up! I didn't think to put by tank on it side like that... I just made sure everything was perched high as I could but I'm going to turn it and see how he like it. QUESTION About the water. I was told not to us3 filtered water becuz they need the minerals... Thoughts from anyone with knowledge is fine!
I know I am late but can you use a really tall plastic container for a crested geckos? I have heard that it keeps it more humid for Tiger Salamanders. (With drilling holes in it of course)
ah okay thank you. i've been using bottled water recently as i can get big bottles for a decent price and they last longer, but it's nice to know that there's always an alternative option that won't harm them, thanks.
daely gossett im more knowledgeable on fish than reptiles so I'm not 100% sure, but I don't see any reason why regular water dechlorinator for fish wouldn't work. But maybe try and get something that strictly removes chlorine like the API brand and not something like seachem prime that detoxifies ammonia and whatnot also
My room stays usually between 64-68 maybe a little warmer. I have a floor/window AC unit because of my chronic illness and treatment I need it. What kind of heat source should I get for a crested gecko? Maybe a stick on heat mat and stick it somewhere on the side or back of the tank or some kind or heat lamp? Thank you:)
Hey taylor ! Id love to own a gecko and I'm in love with the gargoyle gecko's specifically. Ive never owned a reptile though is this a good choice ? If not what kind of gecko would you suggest ??
i know this is an old video but im gonna try anyway lol so i have a few questions... 1) would a 15 gallon aguarium tank on its side be big enough? (24" x 12" x 12") 2) if i start out with a bigger tank, can i section off parts of it and make them available as the gecko grows older so I dont have to buy several different sized tanks? 3) can i use a regular screen lid that you can normally get with the aquarium tanks and cut out my own little door (and seal the sharp edges)? or is that not a good idea... 4) i see suction cups are safe, but what about command strips? are those safe to use to hang up plants inside the tank?
ChibiPandaChan23 I might be late but- 1.) 15 gallon would be OK. But its defiantly alot more beneficial for the gecko just to get a 20 gal. But if you plan to upgrade at some point 15 gal could work for a period of time. But again, 20 is much more preferable. 2.) im a little confused, but i think i get what you mean. If your saying you want to get two geckos, then get one tank for both of them and separating it into two parts; i could see you being able to do that but the tank would have to be decently large (tall and 40 gallons total). It seems a bit more difficult then just getting two tanks. Two geckos can go together but i would not recommend unless they have already been together for a period of time and been okay with it. Otherwise two geckos together is stressful for them. 3.) you could certainly do that! But you would have to make sure any sharp edges at all are 100% covered and cant be uncovered whatsoever. It does sound a bit difficult to make and honestly the lid Taylor used is actually very decently priced in different stores by what ive researched. 4.) i would not recommend command strips. Vines can be a bit heavy and command strips will most likely not hold. Also theres a chance the gecko will be able to reach the sticky portion so i simply just wouldnt risk it when suction cups are only a few dollars (usually $2-$5) I know im not taylor but i hope this helps!
My crested gecko is outgrowing her glass cage and I need to get her a bigger one. Would an all screened cage be ok or does it need to be something that will hold humidity better than that? I’m looking at one that is 18x18x36 inches right now. Which is the right size but maybe not the right material. What do you think?
ShesThe1yup if u search here on YT ‘diy crested gecko tank’ u should find this one guy who turns his 20 gal tank into a crested gecko tank and he shows u how to make the lid
I have this tank but now it's winter time and its getting chilly for my gecko and was wondering what do you do to keep your geckos warm??? do you use a heat mat or anything ???
Hey I was just wondering where did you purchase your crested geckos? I live in San Antonio and used to work at PetSmart, where we used to have them, but recently they stopped carrying them. I've wanted on for a long time and recently moved into a house, where I actually have room now! :) Love your videos BTW. :)
There will be a Repticon on February 25-26 in Houston I also saw you can buy them from the Pangea website never ordered from there before I'm trying to hold out till February so I can get one from there this will be my first time owning one and I'm super excited lol hope this helps
Please answer my question you said to flip the cage but what about the opening how do we make the door Please make a video on how to make the door for the Aquarium Please
I am looking to purchase, own, and love a crested geko as a starter reptile. I'm gathering supplies and doing research. Where did you get the exact tank in the video and the lid with the small door on it??? 😁🐸🐊🐢🐍🐉
i have a question: so crested geckos need a cool part and a warmer part for the tank from what i've heard. how can i set that up if it's taller than it is long? should it just be that the top is warmer and the bottom is cooler?
Sara Govea they don't require that stuff to my understanding, well actually it's debated but half say they don't need uvb others say it's beneficial to some degree
So I live in Florida do you think I'd need a basking lamp or anything if I were to get a crested gecko? It's pretty warm year round and I have a ceiling fan in my room so would I keep the fan on or off?? I'm planning on getting one soon ;)
i think it depend on your room temperature/the temperature of your house, i kept green/brown anoles off and on for years (they live wild on my property so i'd catch them to keep sometimes as a kid) and they never needed it but my house never goes below 77 and my room hangs around 80 through the summer (i always released them a month or 2 before winter so they'd have time to bury themselves and hibernate, since i was a kid with no allowance who couldn't buy a heater. surprisingly i'd find the same animals again the next year since they remembered the easy food)
So, I've had my crested gecko Beakert for about almost a year in December, he's no longer than about 4 inches including his tail, and he hasn't grown much since I got him. I used to feed him the food mix the pet store I bought him from called gecko goo, but now I use the petsmart brand. Is he too small to eat calcium dusted crickets? Or is he just a slow grower... /:
I want to get a crested gecko but the only tank I have for it is a 38 gallong fish tank It's pretty tall with it being a 36in by 12 by 18 inches tall would that work
you SHOULD use tap water to spray down the tank. Filtered water removes all the nutrients they need. Although yes bottled purified would work too, but tap water is doable.
Thanks this helped so much I have a long 20 gallon tank with a screen but i said to myself how's this going to work but you said to flip it over and I saw your little door on the cage so I'm going to ask my dad to make one
For food dishes, you can also use empty milk caps washed out
Rice Cake yes
you are smart my friend
You need something bigger than that
Um do you have a gecko thatonegirl
Nichole Mackenzie you don’t because then you can fill it to the top
wow i have never thought of using a fish tank tilted on its side for a crested gecko! you are smart my friend

So a 20 gallon long will be able to structurally stand straight up without it falling over if they jump from limb to limb?
Its a common thing in the vivarium community, she didn't think of this herself
@@iamTkzs typically people put them in between solid and heavy objects like a desk table or drawers. Then ofc u can’t stack them

Great video. Thank you. The only suggestion from my side would be to reuse the 2 feeding dishes instead of buying bulks of plastic ones and throwing them out. Must look after our environment :)
Just take out the plastic cups and wash them..BAM! Now you longer need to produce excessive plastic waste. (y)
liam whitmore Right, like am i the only one who cringed a bit when shw said that
this is very true. however, the pangea cups are recyclable in SOME places (not where i live)
Liams Nature I was going to say the same thing! Or find small cups easy to rinse that aren't plastic at all!
They actually make ones that come with silicone cups, which is what i use. I'm so surprised not a lot of people have them!

Okay so you get a 20 gallon tank--- but how do you find a lid that will fit and have a screen?
Screen locks! they normally sell them wherever they sell lids.
Mine was built this way though because it's a Zilla 20 long tank
where did you get the tank from?
hey can you hlp me for keeping discus?
@taylor nicole
It's a better choice to just get an exo terra gecko tank, much easier and you don't have to go hunting for lids. Also was designed exactly for geckos

All I have is a 15 gallon. I can't afford a larger one... Is it still okay? Or should I reconsider the type of pet I want?

how did you do the door for the tank? I have a 20 gallon long tank from aqueon. what lid / locks did you use to make the door?

I would put a waterfall in n play rainforest sounds all day
yeah that's what i've wanted to do ... not so much with the waterfall, but play rainforest sounds. :)

yes it it filterd
Do they like hides that are like hanging from the top of the tank? And in a hide do they need moss in it for shedding?
How would you purify the water that you need to spray on them?
daely gossett. maybe a fish water purifier considering its okay for fish and fish are alot more sensitive then geckos it should be fine
daely gossett im more knowledgeable on fish than reptiles so I'm not 100% sure, but I don't see any reason why regular water dechlorinator for fish wouldn't work. Purified water is basically cleaned water. Just boil some water for 20m then put it in the spray bottle
daely gossett Look online or at pet store and you can buy reptile water conditioner
ok thank you everyone :)

Where did you get the bamboo? Ans where can I get magnetic vines?
I just found your channel and it's FANTASTIC. You offer great info on so many types of pets!
Would dogs barking quite a bit make them stressed and make them drop their tail?
Is a 20x20x30 a good terrarium?
yes
So if i turn my tank on the side how do i get the wire door made/purchased from?
ShesThe1yup if u search here on YT ‘diy crested gecko tank’ u should find this one guy who turns his 20 gal tank into a crested gecko tank and he shows u how to make the lid
Hi taylor I'm planning to buy a crested gecko and it is my first time to own a reptile. Is it okay to use fake plants on their tank?
Most people do but make sure you clean them well :)
If the bin is tall enough and is around 20 gallons would it be suitable for a crestie
my crestie tank has a waterfall and a cork hollow as well, they love having places to hide and feel safe during the day while they sleep c:
Does your crestie like the waterfall? I’m considering on getting mine one.
If I live in a place that can get very cold, should I get a heating pad or light if I wanted a gecko?? Maybe just for the winter months?
SchitzoFranic get a heating pad if your room is cold

What's the difference between tap and purified water?
Tap water has minerals in it purified has the minerals already taken out
where did you get those bamboo looking poles?
I have a humidifier in my room, could I use that at night instead of a water bottle of purified water
Do you need to change out the vines?
Where did you get the life for the cage ?

How often do u do a full clean out when spot cleaning daily?
Please please tell us the history of why and how you got so many animals and where you got the money/how much everything costs
Do you boil your water to make purified water or do you use something if you do please tell me

Where did you get your tanks???
I am looking to purchase, own, and love a crested geko as a starter reptile. I'm gathering supplies and doing research. Where did you get the exact tank in the video and the lid with the small door on it??? 😁🐸🐊🐢🐍🐉
Sadie Lehman Walmart, petco etc
I just got one today and I love it so much. Thanks for the video.
i have a question: so crested geckos need a cool part and a warmer part for the tank from what i've heard. how can i set that up if it's taller than it is long? should it just be that the top is warmer and the bottom is cooler?
That works for my crestie
If you were to turn the 20 gallon long tank, how would you put a uvb/heat light?
Sara Govea they don't require that stuff to my understanding, well actually it's debated but half say they don't need uvb others say it's beneficial to some degree
What age do you recommend to buy a Created at? And, an I don't mean the age of the Buyer but the Crested Gexo itslef!
Where would you get a lid to the 20 gallon???
Can you do a video were you tell how to care for blue tongued skinks and all the basics

Can I use bottled water for drinking and misting?
all the cages i search for are glass? but you have one where they can climb on the walls? where do you get that oneeee
Can you please send the link to the magnetic pieces
Try Pangea a little pricey but cresties love the stuff!
^^^ pangea is a GREAT brand my geckos love them.
generally they are slow growers, but better food options can never hurt!
what are those bamboo stick things called i really need them
Your gecko's tail fell off recently ?
yes, had a friend visiting and she gently touched his tail and he decided to casually detach it because of that. :(
I want to get a crested gecko but the only tank I have for it is a 38 gallong fish tank It's pretty tall with it being a 36in by 12 by 18 inches tall would that work
What to do if there are no big zoo shops like Petco and petsmart in my country
you SHOULD use tap water to spray down the tank. Filtered water removes all the nutrients they need. Although yes bottled purified would work too, but tap water is doable.
Vallen Goldshmidt no it adds calcium and nutrients while removing chlorine
I have a question, someone please help. How many times a day would you feed a crested gecko?
Do you know where I can get the same exact tank lid ?? I have the same tank just need the lid
For purifying the water, is a conditioner for fish okay to use?
I'm not sure but I know you can buy reptisafe to purify the water
How do you clean out the substrate?
Thanks this helped so much I have a long 20 gallon tank with a screen but i said to myself how's this going to work but you said to flip it over and I saw your little door on the cage so I'm going to ask my dad to make one
What do you use for the main tree
my adult crested gecko has a smaller cage than what you have but not that smaller is that bad cause my gecko looks like hes good with it
Where do you get purified water?
I have a 12 by 12 by 18 is that big enough to for a tiny baby to grow in to an adult for them to live in or should I upgrade the tank
A 12 by 12 by 18 will be completely fine until the gecko is an adult.
Where do you get you tank door?
umm does reptile carpet work for them?
Hello, what are the measurements of the tanks in cm?
