Great video all the way around, the only thing I would add to this video is the importance of staying in your stand until last light, the last -3- bears I harvested were in the last few minutes of legal hunting hours, thanks once again Bernie 👍
One of my favourite tips I’ve observed in your videos is using the water gun tube to disperse the fryer oil. I saw it in a video last year and went out to get one right away. Works great! Thx
You hit the nail on the head about being stealthy and keeping other hunters from finding your baits. I even go so far as to ensure it's downwind of the prevailing wind direction so hound hunters don't pick up bears as they drive by.
Once again another awesome video. This is like the “ALL STAR” highlight video of “how to” videos. I’ve sent this one to all my bear hunting/ baiting buddies. Keep it up and looking forward to you coming back out here to WY again one day. As always Happy Hunting!
I’m like you when it come to spray trees around my barrel , I have 6 different wet sweet that I mix together on my land and spray hard on trees and shrubs then only use a small amount of dog food , popcorns and whatever crap I come across because of my budget .That sweet scent always brings different bear around for a look then is yours .Thank you I learned new stuff
@@BowhuntingRoad I do have a question I bought granola having a hard time keeping up with the cost of things to mix it with, I’ve been told peanut butter, frosting, fryer oil, pie filling, etc. can I just mix it with cookies and donuts and what not or do I need it to be wet or glue type consistency?
Bernie, another great informational video. Iv watch and learned so much abt Bear hunting from your videos, tha I’m beginning to Smell like a Bear.. Hammer Down Bernie
I live in UP of Michigan been baiting Bear for 40 plus yrs! Use an upright barrel lag bolted to tree with a 10” hole toward the top! Fill with peanut butter cookies an marishino cherries and gummy bears fill it up until bait is to top. Dump 5 gal French fryer grease in front of barrel so when bears come in they track grease around! I use 1 gallon of Liquid smoke in a pump sprayer an spray trees as high as can when it’s not going to rain! Shot many 300-350 dressed bears!
I'm from Wisconsin. Every year i have a tag. I get 10-12 different bears all summer. Normally 1 300lb plus bore. Than the acorns hit the ground and the bate shuts off.......
Thanks for such good content. I was excited when you showed up in Arkansas at the Black Bear Bonanza! Do you have any pointers for us in the south that can’t seem to order bait from these dealers that seem to be up north? Do you know any that ship or anything?
Have you used a lure on ridge to attract but actual bait would be in a lower area because of maybe cover or stand placement? Maybe better question, how far is too far between a lure and actual bait? Thanks
Good question but there is no reason in my mind to attract the bears to anywhere but the bait itself. I have never considered putting any attractor away from the actual bait.
Great video,i have learned lots from your book Bear Baiters Manual👍 I see on your desk ,the top book How to Bait Big Bears, is it for sale now? Where can i get one, im from Quebec
I have a lot of raccoons around. And I only can put out a 5 gallon pillful in my log with a cover on the Bear takes the cover off and eats half of the bait but then the raccoons eat the rest of it. Before another bear comes in any suggestions what I can do
Tough situation. If you are in a state that limits the amount of bait you can put out, just put the maximum and maybe trap some coons in the fall. Wish I had a better answer for you but I don't.
hey Professor! thanks again for good video. 2 questions: 1. have you set up a patreon? 2. what Northwoods spray and shaker flavors do you recommend? (what is gold dust?)
I have not set up a patreon account but I probably will at some point in order to help this channel be sustainable. I like the berry type sprays for fall hunts such as blueberry, raspberry, cherry, etc. For spring hunts I really like beaver castor, it's my #1. I have also had great success with the super sweet cherry burst shaker both spring and fall. Gold Dust is the super sweet and it has a butterscotch/caramel scent to it. I have used it once and I am going to use it more because it has been surprisingly good.
You mentioned that the bears were picking out the marshmallows first on your baits last year. Were those the real marshmallows or the kind you find in lucky charms?
Thank you for the information! Going to bait bears for the first time this spring here in Wyoming. Very excited!

I actually just wrote about that topic for my column in Bear Hunting Magazine a couple weeks ago.

Glad to hear it!
I’ve used one for several years now. VERY VERY handy indeed.

Great idea.
Best bear channel on the World Wide Web!!
Love your channel. I learn a lot from you and I’ve been hunting Bear a long time! I read all your articles in Bear Hunting Magazine. Take care!

Maybe someday Pa will let us use bait or at least scent.

Wildwood bear bait is now selling trail mix and other baits in 40-pound bags. They would probably ship, but you might have to buy a pallet full.
Wow iv learned ao much!!! ...how long before season should you bait?
Here in Minnesota baiting starts two weeks before the season. Other places it's different. The more you bait the better it is.
Thanks for the information, solid tips.
Glad it was helpful!

Heres a tip for ya we go around find bear baits like yours and destroy them and keep all cameras we find for our trouble. GROWUP little boy
Bragging about doing illegal things online is about what you'd expect from single-digit IQ anti hunters.
You mentioned that the bears were picking out the marshmallows first on your baits last year. Were those the real marshmallows or the kind you find in lucky charms?
No they were not picking out marshmallows I did not use any marshmallows. There was one video of them picking out yogurt covered raisins.
@@BowhuntingRoad That's right. Thanks for the clarification.
