I made a complaint on a recent Hodinkee video that we have to do more than just recite a brand's history; After 1967, was the brand simply taken over by the suppliers? I really wish there was more effort with the historical part of the company.
I'm from the USA and have the grey (actually more of a blue-grey) dial Squale 1545. I love it. It is unique because I've never seen another dive watch with that colour dial. It looks great with the orange accents.
I bought two matics new ... the light blue dial version in the video and the brown face version. The browny is on my wrist at least 3-4 days a week, an absolute looker. Have taken it four wheeling, immersed it in mud and water. No problems. Love these watches. Sorry to hear others not satisfied.
I bought one...brand new. After a couple of weeks I noticed condensation under the crystal. Sent it back for a replacement...a week later that one did exactly the same thing. I'd never try another.
So how come this happened? Did you investigate why? I'm just curious because 2 steaming up like that shouldn't really happen. Pendant tube/crown oring seals not the right size? Is the pendant tube a screw in to the case type. Or push in sleeve type ? Thanks
I left Doxa out since the company ceased to exits in around 1980... Don't know much of the history of Jenny family of Switzerland, who acquired Doxa in 1997. Personally think it is similar to buying a name only and branding on nostalgia. I understand Squale is owned by the Maggi family but it is different since they have close ties to the original founders as well as previously being distributors of von Büren/Squale.
@GeniusInventor-dj5zc in this case if going with track record alone that opens the field to dozens of others. Honestly logged the most dive time with Citizen (going back to the 90's)
@@andrewhannam. Not really, most watch brands can’t make a dive watch like doxa. Heritage is buzz marketing: Regardless of how old a brand claims to be we are not connoisseurs, we are consumers, so quality comes first, think of polaroid on how someone bought a brand and run with its own product line. A different organization/family owning a watch brand from then to now doesn’t really matter because it makes no difference in the big picture. If the original organizations of watch brands really mattered, then everything currently owned by the Swatch Group would have to be discounted; and I don't think anyone would be putting Omega, Breguet and Longines into this discussion.
Good thing Watchgecko didn't let the boring and disdainful lad who interviewed Squale the last time presented in this video whether he's still employed or not.
Squale have other retailers in the USA and US retailers can better serve customers if there is an issue with the watch or they want to return it. It is also more difficult to import watches to the US that are over $800 due to increased import restrictions.
I don't agree at all. You can get the Marathon OSAR for 300 dollars cheaper and is better or at least as good. These are overpriced fashion watches not really raw tool watches. The Marathon OSAR has the same quality movement and is capable of 1000 feet depth and can be purchased 300 dollars cheaper than these Squales.
Isn't the osar model around 2000€? That's the price on their official website. And i don't get the ehole depth rating dick measurment. Who needs more than 20bar? I don't get the hate for Squale. Genuine question because i am thinking of buying one in a year or teo.. but if these actually have problems it would be nice to know. But i sure wouldn't mind if they lowered their prices. I feel like all watches are super over-priced these days.
Squale is way overrated! I wouldnt pay a dime for a Squale when I can get the same quality in a Steinhart for half the price or an Original design Mido or any other better alternative for the same price or discounted. They're a brand that should be marked at the $500 range tops.
I disagree. With Squale, you are buying heritage and history as well as a first class product. With Steinhart, you are just buying into homage, though I do agree with you on Mido.
@@jaredstephenson6468 I actually got for $800 at the AD 3 blocks from my house for a Mido Ocean Star Tribute, butter smooth big crown, lovely domed crystal, an extra strap cause of the special edition, an original design with its own heritage, the whole thing. Again I would never pay 1k for a Squale, nothing against the brand but as I say way overrated and way overpriced for what they offer. Sounds more like you’re the guy that says that has a Rolls Royce cause of your BMW engine 😆😆😆

I'm from Australia and also have the same watch 1545 Grey blue...It really is unique and quite refreshing as a watch that can really stand alone..
I've got a Super Squale and 1545, two of my favourite watches, can't fault them for the price
Bought a used Squale Corso Italiano a few months back. So far I haven’t experienced any issues. It may be the most beautiful watch I own.

I enjoyed this insight into Squale watches. Leaving me with a decision to make between two brands.👍
Short answer: TGV
Squale, Certina and Seiko are my choices for a Dive watch with Heritage.
Don’t forget doxa

@@andrewhannam. I'm personally more interested in the current companies track record of quality than heritage. Doxa fits the bill.

Wow, toxic commentary section.
Definitely not Squale!
Certina DS first range, in particular the DS Super PH1000m - is by far the best value Swiss Dive watch

Why won’t yall ship Squale to the US?

The hyperbole makes this a "do I just unfollow" deal.

This is the same guy that says, “I would never pay $70k for an E-Class, I have a Hyundai Sonata. They’re the exact same thing!”

What about Glycine? Gotta be the best value dive watch?
100% it’s glycine, steinhart if you don’t care for brand history and homages
