It was for a tv/award show. The sign they have on are their names so the camera people know who they are, if I'm not mistaken.

The choreo is meant to be kind of cartoonish/childlike to go with qith the theme. Anpanman is a japanese cartoon hero from a children's show. His head is made of bread (anpan) and filled with Red Bean Jelly paste. His only super power is to help others who are hungry by giving them a piece of his head, even tho it makes him weaker until he can get a new whole bread head baked.
    (Edited to add BTS' intent)
BTS is a new kind of super hero, that has no doubts in giving a piece of themselves to make us happy or lift us up. They love their ARMY of fans a lot.

Not an audition. They debuted as a group in 2013. This was a practice and it was only 5 years ago. This song has a special meaning to the fanbase. It's based on a children's superhero called Anpanman. By this time, they are already the beasts that we know now. They are just marking, not going full out. You missed the cute shirt in the breeze detail at the start.

I can't agree with you that this show sparks of what they were going to become. They already had some iconic choreos under their belt. The earliest this could have been was 2018, around the time they were doing the Fake Love and Idol choreo. Two years before that, they did Blood Sweat & Tears. Anpanman was a more relaxed choreo, and lots of fun (I remember a bunch of online tutorials), but IMO, the actual choreo didn't rise to the level that they were already dancing at. Still, I always love seeing it.

yeah i agree. i think he was going under the assumption that this was an audition tape (for some reason lol) and that kind of impacted his reaction bc he probably thought this was old old

I saw someone else explain that these Record dance practices are the ones they record to watch themselves back while they’re still learning, and this is what they’ll send to music shows, which is likely why they’re wearing their names, so the cameras know where to go. The ones you usually watch are when they’ve got it down and everything is polished. Anpanman during their concerts is usually more chill, being silly, and having fun.
I know others have tried to explain before but usually the choreography is for everything from the music video to the concerts to (especially for the older ones) for music shows. In Korea “idols” perform on music shows and fans vote for their favorite groups. Sometimes choreography will change for big award show performance but usually it’s an added dance break. In the music videos sometimes they won’t have choreography or it’ll just be for certain parts, but the choreography that’s there is still the same, just not all of it. I hope I explained that well, someone will correct me if I got anything wrong.

Anpanman was just released on 2017-2018 Love Yourself Era, if you feel its for audition 😅 No, the name tags they were wearing is for New audience to know who is who , idea came way back what they're doing back then when they were just started their career.
And this song was the one they presented during their concerts where they goofing around on stage..😂 BTS never auditioned to anything.💜 Dance practicing is to show the choreography for their live performances for us to see them individually while dancing , because in their performances we can't see them all.

This is not an audition, those white papers they're wearing just has their names on it. BTS were already established at this point (2018). But you right about the growth, year by year they keep getting better

This is not an audition video. There is a reason why each member wears something with their name on it. First of all, it is for cameramen who shoot music shows. K-pop idols have complex choreography, so they take a picture of the choreography in advance and send it to the broadcasting station. Broadcasting station cameramen can watch this video and plan the movement of the camera to take a good video.

there's a much more recent performance of this that I think you would love to compare it to! I don't have a link but they were all wearing light blue and white.

this video was really let down by being completely un-researched beforehand. i think it would benefit you to do just a simple google on something like release date of a song before watching things like this, especially if your incorrect assumptions are going to completely colour the way you're perceiving what you're watching. you spent the whole video talking about essentially how amateur this looks simply based on the difficulty of the choreo when these guys had years of huge choreos under their belts already at this point. you mistake simple choreo for lack of experience, as if this group wasn't known from their inception for having some of the hardest choreography in the industry, and the whole video is essentially a moot point because of it. you had nothing to really impart aside from assumptions based on an incorrect assumption.
also the assumption that their choreo has gotten harder as they've aged is incorrect as well- it's not been a steady upwards climb. some of their hardest choreos are from their early years, and there's been difficult choreos peppered with simpler light-hearted stuff like this throughout their tenure. their dance prowess was what they were known for from their start and was heavily focused on during their training years to prepare them for debuting at that level. in fact, you could argue that in some ways they were better dancers back then- they were worked harder on it, fresher out of training and regular classes, spent more hours in the studio, required to be even sharper than they are now by their management in terms of execution.
these guys are in their late 20s entering into their 30s now- a 30yo does not have the same stamina as a 20yo. at this point they've said themselves they struggle with their old difficult choreos like dope, fire, BST, etc. and that they don't and can't do new choreos like that anymore. the pace of their tours/shows aren't as crazy as they were in 2019 and earlier because it's just not possible for them anymore. if you showed them the original choreo vids for stuff like Danger now, they'd all agree they couldn't perform it as well as they did then, despite being overall much better/more seasoned performers.
