    The first generation Porsche cayenne, called the 955 or 957 has become a favourite of people who like to go off-road and have some fun in an SUV that is vary capable, with a low starting price and easy to modify. The first generation Cayenne sold until 2010 is the way to go thanks to a 2-speed transfer case, available air suspension, rear-locking differential, even sway-bar disconnect on Cayenne models available with PDCC. The base model can be modified with a lift-kit, off-road tires and some body protection and you are ready to go.

    I never never owned a car as reliable as the 2005 3.2 VR6 Cayenne. I have driven 30k miles with only 3 oli changes, and 1 set of tires.
    Not one warning light has popped up. It's just amazing honestly.

    Very cool, love the Trans Siberia theme, these are great for Overlanding... that low speed 4wd capability is awesome. I really the gen2 but the gen 1 has the advantage off-road.

    Really have been enjoying building my Cayenne for off-road use, it's been such a blast to drive! Very capable vehicles and they're pretty affordable right now for what it is, in comparison to most vehicles on the market right now

    Thanks for this great overview Zack, I think you need a bigger and better better heated garage to hold one of these for you, along with Andrea's Taycan :)

    you mentioned it, this applies to the Touareg 1st generation as well. Very competent off-roader as well, a lot more then people would suspect.

    I never knew they were so very capable. I knew Porsche had great handling and were very fast. I owned a 944 years ago but never let it get dirty. That truck looks to be ready to tackle Florida swamps and muddy roads like we've got today.

    Love it Zack, and I want it, this is the nicest one yet, the trick is finding a good used one and I am still looking, thanks for sharing.

    Get snow tires if you want better traction in the snow ... those off road tires look great (the reason why you got them), but they're sub-par in the snow.

    I'm still surprised that Porsche hasn't put money into manufacturing a dedicated Baja/offroad variant of the Cayenne. It'd sell like hotcakes.

    Correct me if I am wrong but as far as know these vehicles have very thirsty engines and take premium fuel.
    I guess it would be okay for a weekend off road/camping kind of thing. But not practical for long distance remote travel.

      Range is still over 400 miles on a tank. In the same ball park as any other vehicle...

    • @robertom883
      @robertom883 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielstrack964 I was not referring to the range but the cost and availability of premium fuel for this vehicle’s engine to travel in remote areas.

    • @danielstrack964
      @danielstrack964 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robertom883 Not sure where you live but premium fuel in north america and mexico is super easy to find anywhere. In fact usually if they are out of something it will be regular. And that cost compared to regular is nothing when talking about overlanding. It's common for guys to have 100's of thousands in their rigs. Fuel costs is the least of your concerns...

    • @robertom883

      @@danielstrack964 wow…..okay! Yes, I know what “Overlanding” means for most people here in North America, but my previous comment stands.

    are the 955 V8 engines less reliable than the V6 or is it the same as long it is the 955 generation?

    1st gen Cayenne is still one of the ugliest car of modern time. Sorry Zack! >_

      You can get the 2008 facelifted one, looks better. We had a 2008 and my GTS is a 2008, The very first ones are good to do this to because they have a face a mother could love.

    • @JohnHPettigrewFujishooter67
      @JohnHPettigrewFujishooter67 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would have said the same thing a few years ago, but NOW I beg to differ, probably one of the very best cars around from that era, 2008 and above is slightly better looking, but if you find a well maintained version it will out last anything else except maybe a 4 runner.
