  • In this video we show you a Bujinkan sword evasion drill called the 4 seasons. This is a great tool to help learn and teach the principle of Fudōshin (不動心) a state of equanimity or imperturbability, as well as critical distance or Maai (間合い), translating simply "interval", referring to the space between two opponents in combat.

Fukuro shinai, or something similar, is an extremely useful tool in Zan-totsu sabaki. One of the underlying aspects of the drills, besides getting your head, hips, and feet wired together, is sensing 'Sakki.' If the attacker doesn't cut with real intention, then it's an empty movement. Nothing to sense and evade.
So, this is where a Ninja begins to develop extra sensory ability, by facing deadly intention and escaping.

Thank you for sharing with us. Could you tell me where to find those padded training swords? They would be very helpful to help us train during the pandemic.
