I love my Jean Bart but the Bourgogne steel ship looks even better, Back turret so I don't get surprised from behind. Think it will be my first steel ship.
Just got her, after having a great deal of fun in the Iowa so hopefully the fun will continue, these American BBs are great fun Inc T8 Massa
Gonna be honest, in my opinion (and some others) the Iowa is leagues better than the Montana. But let me know what you think about her, you might like the Montana more.
I have the Montana in my port for many years, but when I got her I played like 2 games in random battles, since I used her mainly in clan battles. Now, after getting Halsey (and putting him into Montana), I took her out again, and I had really nice games. For some reason I have more success in my USN BBs than any other BB line. Even though Monty cannot overmatch 30 mm plating, the sheer volume of shells makes her really effective in all situation. Also having Halsey's improved Gun Feeder skill is really nice, you can switch to HE in 10-12 sec. if really needed, but even with AP you can aim for superstructures inflicting huge dmg, unless ofc it is completely saturated. The only thing is that you need to get used to those slow shells. Hitting anything beyond 20 km is really tricky, unless the target is steaming in a strait line, or is stationary. OTOH in my last battle I was able to shoot a Kremlin from behind an island, due to high shell arc, and she was not able to return fire.

My first tier ten ship was the Des Moines. Couldn't wait to get it.
Good all around for sure. But personally I’d say JB. Good speed with a boost also, good traverse, not the highest caliber but MBRB helps mitigate.. AA, secondaries, and trolly French armor
true dat ... I learned that 32mm on French is not same 32mm on Royal Navy ships. French spaced armor often gives weird bounces, torp protection hits or pens just often hit for 1/3 of what they should hit for. This is kinda universal from DDs to BBs.

Yeah, Even with the slight AA nerf it's still a great ship.
Although it's annoying when you constantly get matched against Musashi in JB and it happens a lot.

Montana may be a good ship for starting WOWs because of her accessibility (Tech Tree, Decent ships in line), but in terms of powerlevel there are several BBs that outclass her by a lot.
In terms of pure capability the Bourgogne is the strongest ship by far. Range, fire rate, shell characteristics, great HE for long range and angled targets, massive AP broadside when getting closer or vs cruisers. Reload booster, Speed boost, rudder shift, handling. But you need to be present mentally all the time and mistakes get punished more because of her health pool.
In terms of stability and needed skill level the thunderer is just straight up overpowered. You can just shoot the best HE in the game at long range, ignore angling, armor, while stripping away the modules and health of targets. Short reload, battlecruiser godtier dispersion as battleship and overmatch AP. Rudder shift best of the best, concealment means even the dumbest player can go dark where other BBs would just die. Thunderer ist broken like crazy.
good analysis ... in 2 days Marlborough will reshape meta. 25 sec reload on 89mm HE pen 16 gun ship with 20.9km range . Even with 1.4 sigma ... its not issue if there are 16 BB HE shells in air every 22sec (you will take reload mod on that) And that thing is T9.
The thing about terrible dispersion is that ... its not that bad for HE - you don't aim at waterline for citadel in the end. And with 89mm pen it gonna pen even Kremlins deck with ease.
And biggest "downside" of Thunderer was accuracy - too accurate for its own good ;). So often you set only 1 fire ... while with 16 shell wonky shotgun Marlborough may aswell set 4 fires on something without fire prevention :D

I've been playing this game since it came out I own all the ships but out of all of them I find Montana to be the best in terms of despersion rate and it packs quite a punch

So one thing I’ve never really found an answer to… if I have Halsey as commander trained for say… gearing… can I switch it back and forth with a Montana without penalty like with premiums? If no, why would that not be an additional perk of premium commanders/ special commanders being able to switch ships?

Both are famous battleships, took a fuckton of damage to take them down, and are infamous in their own ways. I'm just wondering if they're worth getting in-game.

When I unlock RB I refuse to reset the line. I just can’t go through colorado again.
Main issue now is raw dmg on HE shells... and the fact that HE can't overpen. There's no reason why it wouldn't.

It's a good pick. Double Montana wasn't rare in the last CW season. Even in typhoon league.

MONTANA . . . . and it still get f*cked from Kremlin/Yamato from like 20km and u are quite right with "one of the oldest bbs" but THE OLDEST BB is Yami for sure

They all get different roles Yami and Kremlin are often bow in camper though pretty annoying.
Iowa: 3, triple barrel, 16-inch guns, and the barrels are so long they can almost match an 18-inch gun

I am new player but old man hahahah.I did German tree BB and cruiser and I didnt buy Kurfust and Hindenburg but I started do French line bb and I love it.T8 Richi,T9 alsace and T10 republique.Love to play French bb.Maybe some day I will start doing USA tree but for now a lot of fun French BB and I just need collect more money to buy Kurfurst and Hinderburg

Back in Beta test didn't the Japanese BB line precede the American BB line while the US CV preceded the Japanese?. So technically the Monty was not the first T10 BB?

I actually stopped at the IOWA I love the IOWA class BB's and had no interest in getting the Montana. I've just gotten the GK and loving it. I'm doing the UK CL line got to the Neptune haven't bought it yet I'm just building up money for now. Eventually I'll probably get the Montana just don't have a Capt for her. The one I have on the IOWA I plan on keeping them together
Did the exact same thing as you till the recent snowflake super containers for tier 10's. Had the credits and the XP so got it figuring I would not play it much beyond some coop for rewards. Now it is one of my favorite all-around BB's for ranked. If you like the Iowa you will like Montana just as much, and can really punish with that extra firepower and health/healing. Just watch the HE spam or getting locked by secondaries, they still hurt.
Halsey has become a pain to get tbh. Like you are no longer able to get starts from completing previous missions so I am stuck on the mission where you have to get 12 floods or fires and be top player. XD which is ridiculously painful to achieve.
Can it be done in Co-Op? I forget the requirements, its been several years since I got him.
@@bodasactra nope only ranked or random. Most games do not kast long enough and in ranked pursuing it encourages gameplay that actively hurt other players. Plus it is restricted to tier IX or X dds and CVs
@@DennisTjhie you can endlessly repeat those 1 star tasks like getting captain xp or credits, that's how I got Yamamoto and Halsey

@@DennisTjhie strange. I got Halsey two months ago using this system, and I don't recall any WG official statement about this being changed. I'm grinding the five epoch campaign using that very system no problem
The problem with Montana is the ship is it’s not that bad so she won’t be buffed, I think the buff the ship need is the ability to citadel other BB at over 20 km, US navy designed the shell to plunge thru deck thus bypass the belt armor and don’t care about your angle cause you can’t angle your deck armor, at max range (38km IRL) MK7 16 inch gun can penetrate 370mm of deck armor and over 200m at shorter range, us had the best naval technology back in WW2 and they designed the super heavy shell to work like that, bypass belt armor and plunge thru the deck, but in game no matter the range your shell will simply bounce of even 50mm of deck, super heavy shell was extremely hard to manufacture, in order to make the shell heavy you need to make the shell longer because you can’t change the diameter of the bore, longer shell tend to snap in half upon impact, US was the only country could manufacture super heavy shells because basically US had the best metallurgy, and TBH, if I can hit a target at near max range using those snail shell, I deserve a citadel or two on any BBs

@@BubiBubison well..there are some but not many, as far as I know torpedo is lacking behind Japan, radar and jet was lacking behind UK, ballistic missile was lacking behind Germany, other than those I think US were all the best
lets be honest being unable to hit decks at certain angles is done for balance reasons.
Though ... it does piss me off to no end that most invicible at range ships are CVs - armored 80mm + decks literally bounce Shikishima shells let alone MK7 16 inch.
They need to strip them out of armored decks ... this game is arcade already - and many balance decisions are done around that. That armored deck on CVs makes Yamato and Iowa look like clown ships unable to clap ANY CV that got armored deck.
@@Mario-kf3ej Yes, This. But we know why. CV is protected class. Imagine what dropping a a vw bug on a flight deck at 700 meters a second. There will be a crater. At the very least a huge dent. Good luck taking off with that dent.
@@Mario-kf3ej agree , I have seen a German CV bounced my Ohio 18 inch shells at 26km max range, that CV has 50mm deck, one more thing, mk7 16 inch gun actually has better vertical penetration than Yamato 460mm, the mk7 shell is not much lighter than Yamato shell and has steeper angle

I love the montana. I usually play with range mod and spotter so i get 33km range. At ranged over 21 km I only shoot he. The monty is one of the few bbs who are effective at range because of the accuracy and the 12 guns
100% agree on newer ships being overly gimmicky.
I wish Wargaming would focus on fewer gimmicky fantasy ships and more on solid gameplay and different game modes. There are so many unique naval battles...those could be harnessed into different game modes that would keep things fresh as opposed to making the fame more arcade with gimmicks and fantasy ships.

This ship has the 2nd lowest average player stats amongst all tech tree t10 BBs, there is literally nothing good about this ship besides the AA. The most frustrating part about using montana is shooting a broadside of anything beyond 18km and you're pretty much guaranteed to get shatter and ricochet just because the pen is so bad.
"when these shells connect", that's a problem. If WG nerfs BB guns any more they won't be worth playing. The game is getting too far from reality.
only nerf to BB guns in entire game was 10% AP dmg to DD's...
@@arczer2519 Yeah, it's completely useless. If a DD gets shot at by a BB, and gets hit, it should be punished, imo.

i prefer to use 15% better turret turning speed (23km max range) with spotter if i need it. fighters dont do anything anyways

fighters worked to ensure that the cv loses planes for striking you, well all but Russian CVs of course
@@kevinthechuker1721 heck you still can take some with lucky flak hit. Now Italian Long range AA starts at 4.6km ... Russian CV can easily strike with skip bombs without taking any damage. That is just broken :D.
Montana, best BB in my stats
Stay at 12-14 km. It's this ships sweet spot. Their is not a t10 bb in the game that I would not fight in the Montana
I would prefer yamato, Thunderer, Slava ,Kremlin over that ship, indeed she is jack of all trade master of none, but i prefer ship that have traits that usefull rather than nothing, true that she has many gun ,but she can hardly hurt any bb that angled pass 15 km, like heck if people knows how to angle, this ship is no more than paper weight.people will say "shoot he then if u can't pen" why even play montana Thunderer or ConKek are even better He spammer.
I don't think the Missouri got its citadel lowered, did it?
It was lowered like NC, Iowa, Alabama and Montana but the heal was not upgraded.
Actually if anything Montana is most lacking BB those days. Such even unpopular Zaos can still bounce 406mm shells with deck.
Also worth mentioning that Montana used to have good AA ... but after CV rework thats not that great AA anymore. Probably most power creeped BB around - 457mm everywhere and/or gimmicks/good HE spamming.
Vermont despite vastly inferior speed and 10 sec longer reload is just plain better - even if only every 40sec but those salvos are meant to hurt like nothing else in this game.
Most universal BB those days I would give to ... Republique - this ship does not have really any real weakness except 32mm plating ... but even Republique armor I consider to be actually pretty damn good - gl getting citadel on Rep and also this spaced armor means that often pens do almost no damage on French ships. Strong AA, very good speed with boost, Overmatches 30mm.
Both AP and HE are good. Ship excells at every range - be it brawling (because you can't citadel it and its fast) - or sniping - because shells are fast , have amazing pen and decent accuracy.
Montana ... ain't bad ...but this ship is lacking imo. There is reason why Ohio is kinda ... what Montana should be - a true step up from Tier 9.
Zao always could, that was her troll armor, that 30mm plating that she had mid section and other CAs didn't. Now all CAs have that and Zao's relative armor strength is gone.

Member one time there’s 1v1 or 3v3 rank, you know how bad I feel for those Jean Bart facing my Musashi. Don’t get me wrong Jean Bart is my favorite ship but in my opinion it relies on its teammates too much maybe that’s the definition of all round but its really not that strong.

For me its conqueror i love it the he can melt anything the ap is godlike when used correctly melt dds and bbs with ease shred cruisers with the ap it stealthy can get close kites well its actually quite tuff with correct angles i just love it i mainly play cruisers but love to ply the conqueror

Is it just me or does it feel like the dispersion/penetrating power of the Monty was nerfed witthout comment?
everywhere from 15km out to 22km, on other BBs who are broadside to me I'm getting 3-9 hits per salvo... but all but 1-2 are ricochets or non-penetrations. (And one of the two that hit is an overpen.)
It's infuriating.
After i got the Ohio , i don't play Montana that much !!! Ohio is like a Montana on steroids !!!
After I got the OHIO I never touched the Monty again. Pointless.
Yamato is older, as USN had the first CV line in the game, IJN had the first BB line. Only later were both given the full lineup. But that makes Yamato the oldest T10 BB. As for Montana being best all-rounder, not sure about that, it to me is just the most consistent. It'll do the things that you can expect from her, but it has its obvious limits and it will not overcome them. Stuff you overmatch you delete. Stuff you don't overmatch, you struggle with. Broadsides you can hit hard, but angled BBs? Yeah, good luck. Ohio for example at T10 is better allround, as it can deal with more targets effectively. In the US tree, Iowa is imo also a better allrounder, having less guns, but higher speed and critically, better concealment. 14 km is certainly not good.
In my opinion, yeah, Montana is just classic BB. Nothing special. For u its + but i dont like that personaly. Ohio works for me little bit more, but even that ship isnt my favorite overal ( its Bourgogne and Shikishima)

As an all-rounder I would say Monty is the best only because she's the one battleship that's designed as Jack of all trades, master of none. And that's for tier X alone. Otherwise, I would say that Alsace is a much better all-rounder tier-for-tier. And I agree, the US BBs and the Japanese BBs are the best for beginners.

Montana? Really? I'm fairly certain I would have no trouble beating a Montana with some of my tier IX BB's. Not saying it is a bad ship but "best all around", not a chance.
I mean.. you could say that Motana doesn’t have many defects, but not many strengths either. Ok all round, not the BEST ship we know.

Disagree, it's a solid T10 BB, but by no means the best. Including premiums and research bureau ships, Thunderer and Ohio have it beat, I'd generously throw Bourgogne in there too with its speed and rate of fire. I wouldn't be surprised if Preussen power-creeps Montana as well, when it's released. It's become World of 457mm overmatch for BBs.
Montana feels too realistic in a game that's supposed to be arcadey, and that's disappointing. It's still solid but all these ships with gimmicks and toolbars approaching 10 key shortcuts are making ships like Monty not feel worth it. But I guess one could argue that's where Monty shines, there's only "survive & blap" for Monty.
Ohio is the best all round battleship hands down.

Arguably was one of the best before the range nerf. Still the armor is not the greatest on it so it doesn't fair as well in brawling situations.
Montana sucks for me! I finally unlocked it after months of playing wows and i can't make it work.. Those guns either miss, overpen or bounce.. I rarely get decent consistent hits on this thing! Shell speed is abysmal. Getting a good hit at a kiting cruiser over 15km is pure luck.
Only few battles on her and i don't really want to play her anymore..
And all the while i'm getting into the thick of it there is that Yamato guy sniping me from 20+ km away and taking a 10k damage chunks out of my hp pool. If i return fire on him i get CRAP!
Montana is good, but in my opinions Iowa is the best. because she still retains that hard hitting 406 mm guns, that improved heals, and she can reach 34 knot (38,7 knot with swift in silence capt skills).
Ohio supremacists: No!!!!Ohio is the best general purpose BB, it can do anything and better than Monty.

Personally I think it's the worst battleship for new players as the whole line only teaches passive camping play style.
Which is likely the only playstyle that will be viable in the future due to submarines.

There are so many better BBs than Montana, it's not even in the top 5.
Larger guns that overmatch, great secondaries, heals for less but can use the heal more. I think the only thing thats really worse about Ohio is the AA and she has less guns.

@@La_Voijtur yes. Not great at it. But Montana is not good either. And taken current meta, Yamato is clearly better ship at almost anything. The only advantage Monty has is better turret traverse. And that's it.
