What challenge for her to take and get all the praise for her dedication and brilliance in executing it. Although they don’t look alike they both are strong women. And I think that helped Jolie a lot understanding Callas.
I am yet to watch this film but I think the most challenging aspect of it might be how perfect she will impersonate the opera singer by syncing her voice, gestures and emotions altogether. If Angelina masters these difficult tasks the closest to real as possible, she deserves and must win the Oscar.

Yeah, I haven't seen this but as a Greek some films have been AWFUL such as Captain Correllis Mandolin where a Spanish accent was passed off as a Greek accent. It's like they thought Greeks would buy it haha
Jolie can never be that dramatic as Callas was. She has sad blue eyes and sweet face, and I don’t think she could be into Maria’s legendary expressive face and eyes, in her spirit and soul. The magnetism of Callas was unique. She was a sacred monster.
I am old enough to have seen Callas live in concert, although only during the final tours just a year before her death. Even with her somewhat reduced vocal resources she provided the unique experience of seeing a person become different people simply through the voice and the physical movement/stillness used for each aria that she sang. It will be fascinating to see Jolie who I believe is one of our greatest living actresses take on the persona of the greatest operatic performer [note not just singer] of perhaps all time.
I hope she wins the oscar so that the world will get to know the artistic genius of callas who inspired me to get into opera.. i have not seen the movie yet because it is too painful for me as I am going through similar experience and feelings but from the clips I have seen I am impressed by angelina
Saw this at the Paris Theater in NYC on Christmas Day and was quite literally blown away! Angelina did an amazing job portraying Maria! The entire cast was perfection! That last scene had me sobbing. The power of her performance!
I’m an ardent opera fan in my senior years who lived in Manhattan during the Callas years. 10:47 I was not a fan of her sound but had tremendous respect for her dedication and commitment to her art. I’ve seen tons of interviews featuring Maria Callas through the decades. I was impressed by Agelina Jolie’s representation of Callas’ vocal cadence and sound. Throughout the film, 10:47 it was like listening to Callas actually speaking herself. I think she channeled her perfectly. “Maria” is not a perfect film but Angelina’s performance is! Definitely Academy Award Material! I wish her the greatest success with it.

When she puts on a few pounds she actually doesn't have a real stand out look but now that she is older, when she slims down for a role she looks older. Directing is probably a good idea since her fame encompasses her youthful beauty.
This film is an adaptation of the 2000’s film “Callas Forever”. It varies in its storyline but it’s basically the same concept. Same time period in Callas’ life, same psychological portrayal and similar plot. The main difference is that this version stars Jolie and it had a much larger budget. Still, it is not very different from “Callas Forever”.

I was not impressed with Jolie's performance. I thought her scenes when interacting with other people were flat and different from what you would expect from a dramatic Greek deva. A bit too stoic for me. Marie was a fireball.
