people expect so much bangers from her but i’m a massive fan of her whenever it comes to her more vocal heavy cuts like “get well soon” and “ghostin”. this album has so much correlation with her past songs too. i feel like this album were for the fans.
Same. Plus I was waiting to her to do some rnb too, coz she pretty much serves us pop songs. All of her single is a bop. Especially the thank u next album that EVERY song on that album can really be a single

I am pretty sure you've heard Doja Cat's music before (her song Say So) but just didn't know that it was her, she's a singer and a rapper. Super versatile and talented
this album is the definition of a grower, same with sweetener it’s my fave by hers but the first time i listened to it i was like it’s okay, now i’m falling in love with all the songs in POSITIONS!! pov, safety net, nasty, my hair, obvious & off the table are my faves!
See it’s funny because, for me, Thank U, Next was the grower. I loved Sweetener when I first heard it, and I loved this album on first listen too. It’s interesting because for everyone else it seems to be the opposite. Maybe it’s just because I’m more of an rnb fan than pop fan, and TUN felt very pop to me, while this of course is more of the sound I want to hear from her.
I feel the same!!! Like some songs on TUN I liked right away but it felt way more classic pop with a lil trap and I loved sweetener the first time I heard it too!! Same with this I was like oh my yes bless you Ari.
@@AGEE_95 I personally never managed to like Tun, except Imagine, Ghostin and some of the singles, i don't enjoy the project. While I directly felt in love with Postions, to the point it's my favorite album by her. I feel like album like Positions and Sweetener are way more interesting artistically and will age way better than album like Tun or DW.
as a drummer and percussionist for 14 years, i totally understand what Blake is saying around 28:20 about ari's sense of rhythm. she has a great understanding of time and likes to use it in her music (i think she was in band in middle school, but i could be making that up). it's a reason i love and respect her so much as an artist!
Absolutely. This video really showcases how in tune she is with percussions while singling live. She consistently comes into the song on an off beat. th-cam.com/video/BAB_QG3h7oU/w-d-xo.html
This album blew me away. I actually cried when I heard her vocals on my hair that whistle part in that song was spectacular. I loved that Ari went for this new sound. She always wanted to do an R&B album since the start of her music career. It’s subtle but soooo beautiful. It’s heavenly. Definitely a 10/10. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm pretty sure her whistles was the raw take with Auto tune. She can definitely speak in her whistle registry she used to do it a lot in her older videos. We've seen Mariah Carey do it live so many times but because it's Ariana people automatically assume that she's not able to do it without tweaking it. I cant wait until she performs this live so everyone can see.
Interesting fact.... you talk about the producers mixing her vocals, would it be crazy to say Ari is the engineer who actually mixes her own vocals. She’s credited on the album and there is video of her actually mixing her own vocals. She works with her producers so well and tells them to add on like this is why I love her so much. Not many artist have that musicality and at such a young age still like just wow!
Yet she isn't credited for song production on any of the songs :) and has ton of other songwriters on all records - she is not a songwriter but maybe a lyricist.. :)
@@minamaras7325 she does write with other artist I hope you know. She is credited as a writer too but I was talking about how she is credited as the engineer

Omg was waiting for this one :) this album reminds a bit of sweetener sound wise but both albums went different directions: sweetener was like a healing album and positions seem like a rediscovering album on whether she can try something new and put the past in the past. And POV, 34+35, and just like magic are so amazing.
You can tell her tv and theater background in some of those fadeouts. They almost sound like they're entering the next scene. I'm loving this album so much.
I really love ariana especially as a singer. The quality of her voice and her technique is so good it reminds me of the singers of the 90s, it's just that ariana polished it with a touch of current music trends. What she does is not just hit the high notes but also a sense of rhythm, harmony, riffs and runs, vocal production, low notes, real whistle notes, Broadway, even rapping 😩, etc. I dare to state out loud that she is the one female pop singer who is famous in line with other famous singers but with abilities like divas, there was no one on her level *NO ONE* . I mean a lot of great singers out there, but Ariana just hit on another level. And I love her as a performer too she's never let me down with her performance.
So excited to see this! "Positions" is one of my fave albums of hers and am really interested to see your perspective. You always bring so much to the convo re: production

Those plus safety net are my favorites too!!! You got good taste and I swear that when she has a longer discography (maybe 8 or 9 albums) I will definitely have this album on my top 3, it’s a such great album.

Exactly my thoughts. This album is definitely a grower. Safety net is hands down the best for me. 💕 I’m a sucker for melancholic RnB. but motive gets me in the groove. Tell me who else combines Disney vibes of orchestra and angelic vocals with sexy r&b and vocal layers? Only Ariana Grande that’s right!
i feel like i’m listening to the album w a friend who’s much more educated on everything than me and i think that’s exactly what this is
Exactly 😂😂😂
blake got it right!! i wasn't feeling this album on my initial listen and after a few more listens, i'm hooked to this album, it's insane!
yeah same here. i think i just expected it to be like thank u, next so i didnt really like it at first but then i gave it another go and i listen to it all the time now
i think we all have the same experience, some of the songs are really growers. now after listening to the album for the nth time 😂, i really love it so much.
same. there were some tracks that REALLY stood out fiest listen, but after 3rd listen they all stand out and sound amazing. i love this album
I think it was just an adjustment because TUN and SWT were instant hits. Haven't had "grow on me" songs in a while
Same here 🤘🏽
people expect so much bangers from her but i’m a massive fan of her whenever it comes to her more vocal heavy cuts like “get well soon” and “ghostin”. this album has so much correlation with her past songs too. i feel like this album were for the fans.
get well soon is my fave song from her, and her most complex song, she did an amazing job w all the vocal layering in gws
Same. Plus I was waiting to her to do some rnb too, coz she pretty much serves us pop songs. All of her single is a bop. Especially the thank u next album that EVERY song on that album can really be a single
Get well soon and off the table and ghostin are my top faves
This isn't meant as hate, I just wanted to let you know that in your comment it says " were ". :)
I always wanted to hear her more on this kind of rnb jazzy music, her vocals are perfect for this right?
definitely. this is her best sound!
i really agree on the jazzy music, thats why i love my hair the most on this album. you should listen to "jasons song" by her, its so good and kinda jazz too!
I would also recommend my favorite part, its mostly a mac miller song but her section is amazing and it's a great jazzy song
Off the table👌🏻
@@betulgoker i agree, my hair is just superior😍
Pov is my favorite. And positions is just THAT album for me. Like, the first time i listen to it i was like "um, i don't think this is my cup of tea" but now i listen to it everyday lmao😂
Same! I didn’t like any of the songs besides positions on the first listen, now I listen to almost all of them on the daily 😂 obvious and POV are my faves

I am pretty sure you've heard Doja Cat's music before (her song Say So) but just didn't know that it was her, she's a singer and a rapper. Super versatile and talented
Qween of versatility!
trash person tho 🥴

How he doesn't know herrr hahahahaha wtf
@@alexandraperdomo3768 I mean we don't know her personally, and I am a fan of her music but hey it's your opinion 😊🤗
I cracked in 34+35 whe she sings « you drink it like water » and he looks at his coffee so weird at 7:18 😂😂
When he drink his cup and then she said “u drink it just like water”.. lamo😂
And he looked down at his cup too lmao
did you catch how in “love language” she quotes mac miller’s song in the line “youre probably thinking “what’s the use” .
YES YES
Ariana truly is making songs like the kind she likes to listen to now - R&B / 90’s

this album is the definition of a grower, same with sweetener it’s my fave by hers but the first time i listened to it i was like it’s okay, now i’m falling in love with all the songs in POSITIONS!! pov, safety net, nasty, my hair, obvious & off the table are my faves!
She consistently comes into the song on an off beat.
th-cam.com/video/BAB_QG3h7oU/w-d-xo.html
also she was on broadway
she wasn’t in a band but she was on broadway
Exactly what I noticed I’m no professional but I can understand rythme in music a bit and Ariana understand very well
i think she played the french horn
This album blew me away. I actually cried when I heard her vocals on my hair that whistle part in that song was spectacular. I loved that Ari went for this new sound. She always wanted to do an R&B album since the start of her music career. It’s subtle but soooo beautiful. It’s heavenly. Definitely a 10/10. ❤️❤️❤️
„She's not hitting those whistle notes" three songs later whole chorus sang by whistle notes😅💯😍
Lol and then 37:00 he says it😅😂🥰
My hair come here to shockkkk
He was blushing the whole time during 34+35 😭😂❤️
He's precious
I'm pretty sure her whistles was the raw take with Auto tune. She can definitely speak in her whistle registry she used to do it a lot in her older videos. We've seen Mariah Carey do it live so many times but because it's Ariana people automatically assume that she's not able to do it without tweaking it. I cant wait until she performs this live so everyone can see.
Agree but I'm so fucking tired of her having to do shit live to prove herself when she's already done it soooooo many times and it'll never be enough.
Period 👏👏 Ariana is honestly amazing fr
She did my hair live now
"THE WORLD NEEDED AN ALBUM LIKE THIS" - Blake McLain
Interesting fact.... you talk about the producers mixing her vocals, would it be crazy to say Ari is the engineer who actually mixes her own vocals. She’s credited on the album and there is video of her actually mixing her own vocals. She works with her producers so well and tells them to add on like this is why I love her so much. Not many artist have that musicality and at such a young age still like just wow!
she still has a long way to go with vocal clean up, the amount of mistakes that should’ve been taken out of this album that she missed is mesmerising
@@AidenShelford Mistakes?
Yet she isn't credited for song production on any of the songs :) and has ton of other songwriters on all records - she is not a songwriter but maybe a lyricist.. :)
@@minamaras7325 she does write with other artist I hope you know. She is credited as a writer too but I was talking about how she is credited as the engineer
@@AidenShelford uhh see this is where I highly disagree with you. It sounds good and there are others who help her clean it up. Everything is super crisp so how is there mistakes? No hate just confused because I’m pretty sure many would’ve picked up on it and I’m pretty sure as a mainstream A list artist she wouldn’t release something half done
45:20 she loves 90s music and that's what she did. she said that in zach sang 'positions' interview :)
"so much sass already"
the sass: baby im not even here. im a hallucination
What you said at 6:31 is totally how I feel about this album. I wasn’t in love with this album the first time i heard it but now that it’s been almost a week of me listening to it, each song is really sticking with hp,e and I like them more every time I listen to them
I love his reactions and this was one of my favourites. His opinion is so unique yet he never has anything negative to say! Thank you for this reaction, it’s great to see it from a producers point of view. I am definitely going to check out your other videos!

Omg was waiting for this one :) this album reminds a bit of sweetener sound wise but both albums went different directions: sweetener was like a healing album and positions seem like a rediscovering album on whether she can try something new and put the past in the past. And POV, 34+35, and just like magic are so amazing.
fun fact: ariana vocalproduced almost every song on the album all alone

hello yalll
"Positions" - It is honestly such a great and fun album, it gets better every time you listen to it!!! Loved the reaction!
Blake genuinely lights up whenever he hears Ariana's whistle notes❤❤❤
You always bring so much to the convo re: production
also I've listened to this album like at least 3 times a day since it came out and this girl still has me tearing up when she sings things in the way she does ughh
ariana has gone through so much and i feel thank u, next really spilled it out on the table. positions on the other hand feels like she’s finally catching a break from all the bs she has been dealing with and she’s really having fun with this record and i love it. also i’m so happy she finally delved into rnb bc i feel her voice is made for that genre!! love her sm and love your reactions!

Same it's by far my favorite album from her, i'm in love with the whole production, the layering and the instrumentals are top tier. The rnb chill vibe from the 90 is so satisfying. I wasn't expecting it to be that good considering i didn't like Tun.
You can also hear "math class - never was good" when you listen at the end of 34+35
the way his face didn't even change when she said 'just gimme them babies' is iconic.
In nasty, she is not just a vocalist, she is a freaking instrument!!!
Yes, her whistles (E7) are on chorus
Exactly my thoughts. This album is definitely a grower. Safety net is hands down the best for me. 💕 I’m a sucker for melancholic RnB. but motive gets me in the groove. Her vocals are subtly playful, yet so angelic. It needs to be her next single. Doja spit 🔥 my hair, nasty, love language and POV are up there for me also.
I don’t know if this is the reason, but Mac Miller has a song called Crickets and there’s cricket sounds throughout this whole album
