      Big rigs have them. Not factory installed but, lot of trucking is companies make it a requirement and condition of employment. Lots of people can't stand them from the privacy stand point. I think a lot of people would be of a similar mindset if cars all had factory dash cams. Should be up to the owner of the car. I do think it would be great factory option tho. But, car companies would make you pay a monthly subscription fee for it to work. Easier to just buy one yourself, install it and have it as a one time purchase with no subscriptions or anything else

    • @karenneill9109
      @karenneill9109 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      There’s a huge privacy issue with that. Especially if the car manufacturer has access to the camera. But if it stores locally, and can be turned off, then that’s a reasonable idea.

    • @Cade55
      @Cade55 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That would make cars "more expensive". Shouldn't be by much (less than $100), but carmakers will find a way to make it $1000 more expensive.

    Final clip: The Big Boy is the world's largest _OPERATIONAL_ steam locomotive. There were larger and heavier built, but the Big Boy (and its smaller brother the Challenger) are the only ones of that size still operating. I believe the Challenger is currently being overhauled, but the Big Boy was just relatively recently restored and is turning heads everywhere it goes.

      What was bigger?

    • @SpawnofChaos
      @SpawnofChaos 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Urugami45 Depends on what you classify as "bigger." The 2-6-6-6 Allegheny was heavier and could haul more tonnage, but it was much slower; I believe Eerie's Triplex was longer, as well as Santa Fe's fairly insane 2-10-10-2.
      One thing that makes the Big Boy such a popular locomotive compared to many others of similar size, weight, and hauling capacity is UP's advertising way back when. UP heavily advertised the Big Boy, making it a poster child and spreading knowledge of its abilities far and wide. Of the other locomotives I mentioned, I'd say only the Triplex came close to the same level of widespread awareness, and that was more due to its uniqueness than any marketing.

    Fun Fact about the last clip that features Union Pacific 4014, she had just finish crossing over the Feather River Canyon which was former Western Pacific Territory. That is one of the reasons why she has that SD70ACe Diesel Locomotive behind her. She would also later hit a tree over in Donnor Pass as well, which would delay the excursion for almost 3 hours.

    The Big Boy was an articulated steam locomotive and was created by the Union Pacific Railroad for crossing the Rocky Mountains. It is the only 4-8-8-4 produced. The term 'articulated' refers to the fact that the frame of the locomotive could pivot or swivel in the center to accommodate curves or turns along the rail route due to the long length of the locomotive. The first '4' refers to the four leading wheels which help steam locomotives navigate turns and keep the powered driving wheels from jumping track and derailing, The '8' refers to the powered drive wheels which are the wheels that make a locomotive move. In the case of the Big Boy's they had two sets of eight drive wheels each. This is mostly unique among steam locomotives. The final '4' refers to the trailing wheels under the engineers cab. These helped support the weight of cab, as well as providing extra space for the fire box and lowering the boiler behind the drive wheels. They are worth reading about. Most are now museum displays.

    Lucky not to be paralyzed, he endured around 7/10 pain until he died of a heart attack years later.
    Lesson? If you concider the potential losses financially, physically and loved ones it pays to look both ways! In the larger picture if you need help to wipe your butt would it really matter that you had the right of way!?!?

      I agree. After 3 major accidents, & several minor fender benders, all their faults, it's not worth it to get into an accident. Sure, it doesn't cost me anything. But I lost my time dealing with insurance, taking my car to collision repair, getting a rental, then reverse the process. It's NOT fixed to 100% before the accident, maybe 99%. Things are slightly off by 1 mm. Door seals leaks, emergency parking brake got stuck, rear axle leaks. Now I drive to the far left/right of my lane, instead of being centered. After the intersection just turns green, I check for red light runners as I approach the intersection.

    I love the look of the Big Boy. Lionel Trains has a O guage Visionline Big Boy locomotive. It's big, highly detailed, has smoke and steam effects. Price tag is over 2000 dollars.

    I’ve been driving up and down I-77 between Charlotte NC and Columbia SC for over 15 years several times a week. In that time, I’ve been hit by exploding truck tires no less than 4 times. One of the truck treads landed on my hood and almost came through my windshield. The dent and tread imprint liiked liked like Bigfoot had tried to drive over the Beetle I was driving at the time! There needs to be tighter inspections required on these cheap retread tires a lot of these carriers are using.

      Yes, and no. They still are far more dangerous than newer vehicles (just look at crash test ratings). New vehicles are designed to crumple everything but the passengers. Older vehicles can take smaller impacts, but it's more violent in the cabin. Anything more than a minor collision and you're a grease spot in the cab.

    • @KLondike5
      @KLondike5 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They transfer all that force into your spine & head depending on where you ping pong inside the cab. A new vehicle is cheaper than decades of medical bills in this country.
