Most Minnesotans don’t understand this kind of quality fishing for pan fishing or specifically the targets of crappie. Great videos keep them up you’re one of my favorites. 100% fishing and no extra fancy bull crap. MNREPPIN!
not that big into fishing especially in the winter i want to get into it looks like fun, one question what does that black box with that pendulum what does it do?
Fun fact: this technique was thought of over 30 years ago by a guide on lake Winnipeg, guy by the name of Roger Stern was the first to throw a rattl'n rap down an ice hole for walleyes. It was In-Fisherman that saw this technique and really popularized it.
I honestly thought of this myself a couple years back without any outside influence. It's funny when you think you did something new but in fact it's been done before. Only difference is now days I have more reach than the classic films do
I must admit I’ve never caught a crappie bigger than 10 inches for ice fishing, but spring run and fall run I always catch the monster crappies 13s and up only lol
If feel stupid asking this but those blue bands holding the reel onto his rod...are they a manufactured and sold item or is this just something he rigged up on his own. All I ever use is electric tape and im not completely satisfied with that
I could have but these crappies are much to big to cook. Anything 12" or bigger are the genetics you want to keep in your fishery to produce big fish. Smaller ones are the ideal eaters
Very much enjoy your videos...I noticed in most of your ice fishing video's, you like a 36" rod, any reasons why you like a longer rod vs the more common shorter length?
I was just on some good ones this last week but now you have me excited to get to my favorite crappie lake where the average is 13in :) Keep on bringing the monsters topside Scott!
Was catching some last week on the Mississippi but warm weather is putting an end to the ice quickly and now today it is raining. Gonna be a few weeks before the ice is solid and safe again.
Meanwhile in northern Illinois we keep getting 40+ degree weather days and there's no safe ice :( at least you Minnesota guys are having fun. Keep up the good work.
@@WheresTheSauce dude it's real bad. I'm usually on the ice by mid December but this year has been rough with unusually warm weather. The forecast doesn't look promising either.
Awesome. I use one too. I've just heard people say they affect the action on the bait. Thanks for getting back to me and for the info. Love the videos!
I started using these a couple years ago, I actually had to upgrade my hooks on them because on my lake I am picking up catfish and walleyes that easily bend/break off the little hooks. The best part is these baits almost "fish" themselves, a lot of the time I don't have to be too aggressive in jigging them. I just dangle them over the fish, give it a subtle shake of the rod. When a fish comes up, I keep reeling up until the fish grabs it. They work great in the summer too!
kolden lokken this guy puts out a video showing him catching these big crappie so let’s see your 15” rs . Not saying you don’t catch them but let’s see “Your” video !
@@glenndaugherity6187 I've seen vids of the Oahe crappies before. They definitely are big and reach 15 inches but they definitely don't average that by anymeans
Amazing video, goog tips. My favorite crappie/big gill lake is infested with pike all of a sudden. Let's just say I have been donating lots of tungsten
Do you like running your ducer down that far ? Not sure how thick your ice is but Marcum claims you can just run it just under the water. Just wondered what you like better Awesome video !!
How do you just go out and say "I'm going to catch giant crappies on this bait" and then do it? I go out with a plan and it rarely works out how I hoped.
I know this body of water holds very large crappies. And if I can locate them I knew i could target the largest crappies with a larger bait. I shoot 2 or 3 failed videos for each one that works out. The struggle can be real Lol
LOL there's nothing better than calling your shots haha. It's 99% just knowing your water. Even if it's a bad day if you can land on top of them you're pretty well guaranteed to catch a couple. If it's a good day, well..........
Great video. Now if I just can get you to give up the name of that lake. I know good luck...... Hopefully I can get into some of those here in North Iowa.
Finally discovering some of the public waters I fish for slabs...keep up the great work Scott....love your vids...would love to meet up with you and buy you lunch in DL...not to fish but this old fart finally bought a GoPro and want to pick your brain and get a little help on the GoPro situation.
Wow, nice crappie fishery! One after another slabzillas
Can I use 5 rippen rap for crappies???
Yes, I use them quite often!
Is the lake your on very clear or murky water?
Its fairly clear
Thanks! Good job
I agree with you is a fantastic video👍👌
Bro. Take a minute and weigh some of them bigger boys. Great video and great info. Thank you.

What kind of box are you using to store those rippin raps?
Its a small.box made by scheels
Man that was one nice bass!

Nice fishing!!!!!!!!
Where did you get that ice reel at?
@skankhunt42 nope I live out in the country out in the sticks LOL
It's a 13 freefall reel. They are amazing!
You called it...That lure targeted HUGE crappies!💪🏻
Great techniques and advice. That #3 was a great slab slayer! Nice job.
I hear you say they are size 3 and size 4 did you use both sizes in the video or just the 3? Thanks!
Just the size 3.

Cold snap reel kit
Thx
How do you like the free fall reel?
I love mine
I'm really liking it
Awesome fishing Mr MaNiaC great video
Wow, those are some dandy fish. Great video like always. Thanks for sharing.

U could have easily made a catch and cook out of this

Some wicked SLABS.... great share!!!
Slabz awesome vid
Very much enjoy your videos...I noticed in most of your ice fishing video's, you like a 36" rod, any reasons why you like a longer rod vs the more common shorter length?
I like a longer rod because it absorbs head shakes better resulting in less lost fish
Do you bait them with anything like a euro or waxy?
No never tip the hooks with anything

Great video! Picked up some of these lures last year. Excited to try them out now!
Hi are u still basin fishing?
How do ya like the 13 Free Fall?
I didn't like inline reels at all but after forcing myself to use one for over a week I'm loving it
This video made me go out and pick up some rippin raps.
Can u back reel with that reel?😉
Getting used to the not backreeling thing lol
@KeystoneGaming Thats would be fun!!! You live on a fantastic lake!
Great video man super jealous of those slabs would be a blast to catch
The only way you could get me on ice like that is to put me in a boat and push me out.
I'm driving my pickup around on the lakes now
That’s crazy man I like the video you always give good content
🔨ing 💣’s
Do you use a snap when tying on the rip and raps? Or tie directly to the bait? I've heard both.
I use a snap
Awesome. I use one too. I've just heard people say they affect the action on the bait. Thanks for getting back to me and for the info. Love the videos!
@@ethanduggan8136 snaps work great I don't think fish who are eatting baits that big really care to be honest

It was 11"

nice crappie but in lake oahe in ND the average is at least 15in have to come down sometime

Making me jealous over here !! Sick video as always. Love the concept and look of that reel might have to snag one
get the 13ghost youll luv it.
A true outdoorsman. Would be a pleasure to share the ice with this guy.
Nice fish! Wish I had some safe ice around here.
Why don't you want to tell what lake was that.
Thats the fastest way to ruin a fishing lake.

I like it just below the ice but ran it deeper this day

You gotta get a Bullwhip. The best rod by TUCR by far. That paired with tungstens or light spoons is my favorite panfish combo
Them there are some slabs.
Best part about that..no bait, rebaiting can be a PITA
