The Truth About Walking The Path Less Traveled In Life

  • Today, I'm not just sharing a memory; I'm sharing a piece of my heart from 2008. It was a year that tested me, shaped me, and eventually led me on a path I never expected.
From being a university dropout working at a takeaway store and a petrol station, to feeling lost and overwhelmed, my journey was far from easy. But it taught me something invaluable.
Choosing your own path means embracing the unknown, facing the difficult chapters head-on, and most importantly, realising that it's okay for the first few chapters of your journey to be tough. It's all part of the process of writing your own story, a story only you can pen.
As I reflect on those challenging times, I'm reminded of the power of perseverance, the importance of walking your own path, and the undeniable truth that the most difficult journeys often lead to the most beautiful destinations.
Have you ever taken a step back from the default script of life to write your own story? How did it feel, and where has your journey taken you?

This video got recommended at a perfect time. Just got into a car accident a couple days ago, the car is brand new and the insurance refuses to pay he damages. It has only been a year since I moved out of my parents house accross the country to write my own story and the first few chapters have been very challenging! This video reminded me of what the path I have chosen really is and that it is only a part of the proccess.

As an Asian Australian also from Adelaide. The road less walk is seriously a hard one but I guess it teaches us what the fundamentals of each individual strengths and weaknesses are. We truly find out what we are made of. Hey vinh if your ever in Adelaide drop by my pizzeria. Would love to meet one of my idols. Jamie’s pizzeria in prospect. Your words hit me so hard and have given me courage to push through even through hard times. Thanks so much.

This means a lot and It is very relatable, I cant believe i clicked on this video It really cheered me up after such a rough few years I'm about to turn 24 this July and have been feeling like such a failure through out all four years of my Business degree I have been so lost its unbelievable and feeling like this will never reach an end by creating my own path which has been very unpredictable but creative Thank you for this talk. 😊 Best regards. 🙏

Mark Twain's poem "the road less traveled" good material to reflect on. Remembering that no matter which path you take whenever you approach that fork in the road you won't be the same person as you were the last time you were there. Times might get rough but even through rough there's rewards to be discovered and in reflection jewels recovered.

I don't even know what you do, but I love the way I feel when I watch your content. I feel empowered and I gain insight into what I need to improve. I was excited for a video where you lessened the theatrics. I miss old TH-cam and the videos where people aren't performing. The chance to feel connected to you and build trust in your perspective was ruined by the sunglasses. It felt like you were hiding behind them.

Vihn Thanks alot. I come from Uganda and here if you drop out you're seen as a public failure. Sometimes I cry but when I look at the harvest for all of this I feel even more energized to go for it. I will always fix my eyes on the prize. I gave up engineering for entrepreneurship. It is hard but I know it is worth it

Thank you for sharing this. I did complete my degree but quit my first job after 10 months because I had other dreams. It's been a little over a year and it is not easy, not easy at all. There is no script as you said, I'm the one writing my story.
But the canvas is not a plain paper, some of it has already been written by life. I'm just filling in the gaps. Let's see how my story turns out. I'll reply to this comment after a few years to give an update.

That accounting degree was not a waste of your time, or money for three reasons. 1) It revealed to you what you really wanted to do with life to such an extent that you could not ignore it. 2) It gave you a deeper knowledge on how to handle all the money you will make, or are making now. Many people make a lot of money but they don't know how to handle it. Case in point are those people whom win millions of dollars in the lottery and then lose it within three - five years and end up in poverty. 3) Another reason why the people who win at the lottery and then lose it is because they still have the same consciousness they had when they were poor. You cannot have a lot of money and a poverty consciousness at the same time. During that time as an accountant, you were building a "rich man's" consciousness by becoming clear on what you wanted.
Anyway, that's my rant. Thank you for the video!!!

I run a community garden in West Palm Beach and we have been doing talks. And at my last talk, 90 people showed up and it was because of you. I was able to fulfill my speaking engagement. We started out at 60. This was our third talk and more up to 90 people. So thank you so much for everything. You share online if you're ever in West Palm, please look me upand we will take a tour of the garden.

The story of the Mexican Fisherman really helped me get a perspective on life. Not that I've ever caught a fish in my life but I earn just enough from my own enterprises to pay my bills and choose how I spend my time. Makes no sense to work myself into a grave just so maybe I can, one day, afford to pay my bills and choose how I spend my time.

Vinh, I genuinely appreciate your efforts, I am thankful to God for every circumstance you went through good or bad especially the bad ones that craved you into this current person, I appreciate that you did give up not just on yourselves but on us too,
this video resonated with me, but it rings a bell more for my older brother, he went through many hardships betrayal, theft, and so many things, that he can't continue learning because he doesn't have enough money, and always I hear him talking about his friends who were much less than him in studying, and now he is 28 old with pretty much nothing to hold onto, I want to talk to him but I don't how, I wish he doesn't give up and wait, just like you did, but maybe the difference is that you chose, and he got no choice but I think if you choose or not you still got to ride the horse and move..... omg didn't expect to writ al of this LOL I think these vids aren't your only journaling entries anymore xd!

    Hey Vinh,
thank you for sharing this video. It's of such importance to share this insight. Failing is ok but standing up as you said is needed to accomplish what you want and to learn from your past failures.
I failed with my first business last year and trying to recover from it. Right now will be probably the hardest time of my life to get back up on my feet, but I will do it myself because no one else will do it for me and I'm still in my 20s so there is plenty of time. Once standing again I will try something again to make the world a better place, atleast a little bit.
    Have a great day!

As we come out of the muck of life our steps are extremely labored and difficult and as come out we start to encounter easier ground to step on until we determine the path ahead. However, we have to be vigilant to not get complacent because we can have very difficult experiences that we never see coming.

I was the same I was studying Civil Engineering and I was good at it and really enjoyed it but I couldn't handle the clients and with that and constant reports and deadlines I ended up having a mental breakdown and got signed off by the doctor and I left at the start of my final year. God it sucked.
But now I'm working in a nice quite warehouse, it's like getting paid to go to the gym and I'm investing my money in the stock market. (Doing really well) Money isn't an issue anymore and I'm loving it, buying a house is a problem (for now) but that's the same for everyone at this moment.

So true, bravo. I like to point out that writting your own story do not imply the first years to be bad nor that going on hard academic studies is not part of your true own story. Let me share:
I choosed computer graphics for studies (R&D, master, PhD, and 8y of postdocs), my parents couldn't understanding the point. Worked hard, long hours, no weekend, no extra pay, and such poor salaries; so often alone in the labs for so many years; but God, no regret, loved it, As I felt like a dog, smelling the ground of research, digging felling there was something there; finding a problem, trying and trying to solve the issue; then having this "odd" idea, and it worked! Discovering something (not even that important), writting the paper, going to present it, a couple of drinks and back to the lab looking for another problem...
All that process, all these hard academic years, it felt good. First years can be good and academic year can be great moments.
This long comment because I see more and more young people disconsidering science or engineering thinking "I have to find my own story and cannot follow the scripted of academia".
Just follow what you like, smell the ground, and dig hard.😊🎉

Hey, your value does not depend on your current assets or skills or even on your success down your path. It's hard to learn that quiet sense of self-worth, but it's worth it. If you can love yourself right now, you'll love yourself always, and it'll make you such an inspiration to the people around you.
Learn that your feelings are valid, it's important for you to figure out where they're coming from, to take them seriously and to take responsibility for them. Growth comes with processing and tackling your emotions.
