I’m in Canada and I turned 15 years old on this date. 1976 was and always will be a special year for me and the music was a major part. Sure is great to see those huge shirt and suit lapels. Is it possible for this fashion icon to make a comeback over 45 years later? Thanks again Frances for yet another great ride down memory lane.

Great chart. Showaddywaddy with their only no.1 holding off the mighty Queen and Abba.

    It's funny the No.6 ,5, 4, 3 & 2 records are the best & memorable songs(No.49, 39, 37, 30, 25, 23, 17, 15 & 13 deserved an honorable mentions here) while the No.1 song is forgettable crap.
And Rod Stewart was on fire back in Great Britain with three records in the Top 50 U.K chart while in the United States "Tonight's The Night" is on it fourth week at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 that same week(the record stayed on top of the American carts for 8 weeks).

The 70s is a weird decade. The good music is so good, but the bad stuff is so cringeworthily bad

A pretty rubbish Top 50 imo. Wow seems like this period of the 70's was abit of a fallow one. If it hadn't been for David Bowie, and Abba, 1976 would have been proper pants. Fast forward to 1977..... please!!!

Yes! - and they happened as a reaction to the mundane, middle of the road 'happy clappy' stuff by bands such as 'Shawoddywoddy'. As well as the sickly sweet manufactured pop of boy-bands like 'Bay City Rollers', and 'Slick'.
But on the whole, 1976 wasn't a great year. 1975 and 1977 were both much better generally.
Best years in the 70's for music:
      3rd - 1975; 2nd - 1979; 1st - 1977.
Imo the best years were all in the second half of that decade. 1976 was something of an anomaly! Must have been the heat going to peoples' heads!!
