Going to the gym is my worst fear, somehow i have so much social anxiety and agoraphobia about that. I might try to run around the neighborhood and will take your tips into account. Thank you for being so compassionate about this because i feel so insecure about this topic.
And that’s okay! For me the gym is easy because I’ve been going for many years and I love it. It’s important for you to do what you feel comfortable with and something that you enjoy. 🙏🏽
I used to fear gyms & shopping centres till my 30s now im finding balance & realising my limits. I find the gym or any exercise is fascinating & often can be amazing its dealing with the motion & pace I find wild & a bit over tiring. I admire your ability to be consistent alot
I go to the gym every day because i need the pressure/proprioception (huge stim) and stress reduction and routine. Noise cancelling headphones were never good enough for me so years ago I went to an audiologist (Dr. Glick here in LA) and got custom earblocks that help a LOT. Plus, we made the gym aware that I am autistic and loud music can trigger a violent meltdown (I can be very destructive) and to their credit, they lower the volume way down when they see me at the window. FYI they are not legally bound to do this (there is no provision by the ADA), so I am especially happy that they accommodate me every day. *AND* I got special permission to use the private training room, which is enclosed and almost always very quiet, so I'm in there a lot. Also, rest days are important, but I have to go every day, so my 'rest' days are a full hour on cardio only (no weights). I also lift very slowly, methodically, and with intention. I've been going for a very long time and I've had my share of injuries, so I am careful. I also go very late at night--the last 90 minutes that the gym is open. There are far fewer people there at that time. Doing all these things makes it possible for autistic people to actually go to the gym.
Hi Carroll, Im super happy about finding you on TH-cam, im ADHD, + depression related about historic of consuming dr*gs + bipolar, and! here's the positive thing, also gym rat. Where do you live? how long have you been with you diagnose ? Cheers from Switzerland .
If I'm feeling especially over stimulated or just not feeling it, I love putting on like a 45 min to an hr stream and hit the stairmaster. great workout and keeps me distracted from both the pain and the people 😂

It would be really helpful if you made a video showing your stretches!

You don't have to socialize and aren't really expected to, but you can if you choose to.
Yes absolutely 👍🏼
Thank you for sharing Trevor ❤
Thank you King! I want to get back to the gym.
Really helpful video 🖖
