- This video shows how to adjust the size of a watch band by removing extra links. This video is "to the point", very EZ to following, and has great explainations and close-ups. Anyone will be able to do this. The watch in this video is the casio 2719
Own the same Cassio. All I took was take a worn out jewelers screwdriver ground the end to a beveled siringe shape and smoothened the end a bit so it doesn't scratch or skewer the nubs on those keys. I ground it so it fits the key hole. Gentle push at an angle with a bit of positive force and not even 2 seconds they push out freely without a scratch. Adjusting the links was a breeze. 2 minutes and it was done. Used the same procedure but had the arrows facing up pushing away from me. I was able to use plastic gripping tweezers to remove the keys. I was about to do this then saw I could adjust the clasp pin. It might be worth making a note of that if the adjustment is small.

I can't believe how informative and easily understood this video was, thank you so very much for posting. I have always taken my watches to be sized by a jeweler but after watching your video I was able to take my 12 year old son's watch that he just got for his birthday today and size it perfectly to his wrist. I had no idea that it could be this easy especially without the tiny little Jewelers tools. Thanks again.

Many thanks from Russia!!! Another tip: you can also use a needle (narrow end or a wider one if you can remove the hole for a thread, otherwise it will broke) if nail doesn't stick into position. Tried this with Q&Q watches and removed all links I needed for 5 hours. It was a tough challenge but now I feel proud for wearing this thing that I fitted for myself

Thank you for your explanation. I was struggling like you said pushing the links until I searched some more and found it's a very simple, no hard pressure needed job. Simply make sure your have a small enough tool/nail to go all the way down in the hole and simply ease out the key little by little.
One comment I got a long time ago said that they used a thumb tack. That would also be a good tool

I took a tooth pic and dipped it WD40, and placed a small drop in the hole..The pin came out much easier. Thanks Again!!!

Yaaay, I did it! I used precision tweezers instead of your "nail tool", and yes, the keys put up a fight, but mine came off easier than the keys in your video. I'm a woman and I'm not strong or muscular at all, and even so adjusting the strap was easier than I thought.
Now my watch fits perfectly. I can finally wear it!

I haven't worn a watch in 2 years because the band was too large and a shop to have it changed was 20 miles away. With your video it took all of 5 minutes and a small screw driver and it fits perfectly. I thoroughly cleaned the band before I started this. The pins came out easy. Thanks for the video.

Your directions were spot on! I needed to take two links out, so I took one key out, skipped the one next to it, then took out the next one. Now the watch fits perfectly. Thank you.

Excellent video, simple clear instructions, no fuss, worked a treat on my son's Sekonda.
Rather than hold the nail with the pliers, I hammered a 1" (25mm) brass panel pin into a thin stick until about 0.1" (2.5mm) was protruding through it - very effective.

Thanks for the video. I've never had a bracelet like this until now. What a pain, but this video shows very well how to do it. Talk about over complicating a simple thing. Those push pins found on other bracelets work perfectly well. These are a tremendous hassle. Thanks though! One thing I'd add is to remove links from the bottom first as many bracelets are somewhat tapered. You don't want to remove links in the middle first.

Great video! Thank you! I had a friend who slashed the top of his thumb trying to get one of those pins out. He nearly bled to death. He had to be rushed to hospital for a blood transfusion.
The watch manufacturers should really make it easier to change the length of the bracelets or at least provide instructions on how to do it easily and safely. Thanks again for your video!!

I have a Casio AE1200WHD "Royale" that has the same type of links. I found your demonstration, but as I'm a klutz--I would either mar the bracelet or my fingers--I didn't remove the links they way you did. What I ended up doing is using a pair of jeweler's screw drivers and a pair of needle nose pliers. I noticed that there is a small gap just to the inside (toward the center of the bracelet) near the head of the clip. I was able to insert the smaller of the screwdrivers into this gap and turn it. That moved the clip outward. I followed up with the second screwdriver which forced the little bump to clear the hole and then was able to remove the clip with the pliers. Just throwing this out there as an alternative for anyone like me :)

I have the same watch and band.Great video but I must report that even after following your proper technique, I still found myself struggling. In fact, I thought I was going to lose the bracelet. The specs on these keys in relation to the links are just too tight - at least for my particular watch.What I ended up doing was to lift (pry) the metal part of the link on each side of the hole which is entered to move the key out. This removed the impediment of the raised "bb". The key then slid out much more easily. When I had removed the link, I then squeezed the raised metal back in place with pliers and a soft cloth to prevent scratching.I love the look of the watch. The bracelet is cheap and tinny but looks fine. I am guessing a black leather strap designed for this watch would look good, too.Thanks again.

Great and helpful video. In my case, a push pin worked very well for initial shove, and saved me the long stroll out to the freezing garage, and the tool box dive in search of small vise grips. Hemostat or needle nose works for pulling loosened links, if you happen to have either of those.

Good comments ... I took a hardened finishing nail, ground and filed the tip to a 'D' shape the s
same side as the area next to the 'bump'. Insert, lever toward the middle of the band, and e.z. out. Thanks for the info.

I used a small screw driver to pry the metal up slightly on either side of the ball. I don't know if it is recommended but it was a lot easier and used needle nose pliers to close the space after. Put a little cloth on the outside bracelet side so you don't scratch it when you use the pliers.

Rather than a nail, I used the type of screwdriver used to repair spectacles and then it was simple - just insert and twist - to push the key out ~1mm. The idea of squirting it with WD-40 first is a good one though as subsequently removing the key-shaped pin was easier. However, I struggled to separate the link. Rather than just "bend ... and remove" shown at 4:10, I had to bend and apply considerable force. I'm disappointed that Casio did not included any instructions for the watch band, as I would not have figured it out without this video so thank you.

Thank you for your practical guide, I can not do it at first time then actually I was nervous so I went to a "watchmaker" it was a mistake, because this yerk make scratchs to the belt, so I decided to try again and I have succes so my work was excellent without any scratch. Let me give you a piece of advice, try to nail two wall staples in a piece of wood, so that each staple push the chain links both right and left to the piece you want remove when you push the pin, it provide you the strong necesary to remove it and when you put again the pin, use a piece of paper or cotton to prevent scratches in the surface of the belt.

Mine had a similar flat pin that doesn't fully come out from the strap.
It stays partly in the strap but then you just twist the link and the link pops out.
I figured it out by watching your vid. Cheers

Great tutorial, thank you! I didn’t have the strength to prize out the second pin as instructed, so I took a hammer to the nail and out it popped! I took a risk, but the watch wasn’t damaged😅

Took quite a bit of effort to push the key out, but once out, I found that in order to remove a link, two (2) consecutive of those need to be removed. One is not 'done' and the link cannot be removed until this ordeal has been completed twice. The video skips this little fact in removing two keys to get one link free for removal. If removing more than one link to reduce the band to the desired size, remove one link (and thus 2 'keys') from each side so the watch and fasterner are equidistant on your wrist.

Thanks for the video. I found that after initially prising out the tab past the 'ball', my pliers couldn't grab it. I was able to push it out by inserting a narrow screwdriver into the hole and twisting - the corner of the screwdriver just managed to catch the edge of the tab.

Outstanding - but one useful suggestion. If you have trouble trying to hold those two surrounding links while prying the key out with the clenched nail, I found that what works better is to rest the band away from you at about 30 degrees or so downward against your working surface, and then just press the key down and out against that. That way you don't need superstrong fingers to provide the resisting force, and it pops out very nicely. I was also able to use a regular visegrips instead of needing the needle-nosed variety. Appreciate the demo :-)

I have a Bergeon 6767s watch tool. I didn't need to apply that kind of force for initial bit. If you flip the watch strap over, you can see a hole in the locking pin. You use 6767 to pull pin out instead of the pliers. I did use pliers the first time and realise the plier teeth were damaging the locking pin edge.
It's nice to have specialized tools.

I tried your method and I couldn't get it to work. I also tried using a really small screwdriver that I saw another TH-camr use and I got one pin out. Then I found a sharp pick in my toolbox and it is the perfect tool for getting the pins out. I just stick the sharp pointed end into the hole and pry the pin towards the outside and the pin just slides out far enough to grab it with locking pliers!

Thank you, it's a very helpful video, my Casio MTD-1079D needed some adjustments. Also I didn't have pliers nor a screw but instead I use a 1.4MM FLAT Head Screwdriver. It was very fiddly but I managed to pull it off.
