    i took an old watch to a watch repair service to see if it can be fixed because it had a small problem and i asked if the watch band can be shrinked. It had the same type of band as the one in this video and he said that it cannot be done and instead offered to change it completely but i refused because i didn't have enough cash with me. I'm really glad i refused because, a week later while i couldn't sleep, i decided to do a little research of my own and see if it really cannot be done and i found your video. Guess what? Took me less than 5 minutes, a surgical knife and an anatomical forceps and you can't even tell where i've opened the watch band. You saved a poor student some money, man! Thanks a lot!

    Perfect. You took a mechanical task that was simply beyond my capacity to figure out and broke it down step by incremental step. Your instructions worked perfectly. Now my Vostok Komandirskie watch fits perfectly. This is what TH-cam is supposed to be all about. Thank you.

    Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! Fixed the band on my 91 year old grandmother’s favorite watch (which belonged to my late grandfather before he passed) with just a pair of needle nose tweezers and some patience. Super satisfying little project and it was made infinitely easier with this video!

    Done. Don't be intimidated. Set aside an hour or so, tools like the above will make this easier, but you can improvise. The little tabs on the links won't look perfect when you're done, but they're so small, no one will ever notice. Great video.

    Great video. this is a time consuming job, I used jewelers screwdrivers, needle nose plier, small vice grips, et. al., but I got the job done of my $7.99 Wal Mart flex band watch. Not too hard to remove links, but closing the band back together is a challenge.

  • @ell7530
    @ell7530 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    this video was great! exactly what I needed. it was a quite difficult to place the pins back so I just slid a pin on one side then slid the other in like a puzzle closed the placement hinges and went to other side to complete the process. I am so happy with my new smaller watch band!

  • @TheDocweddle
    @TheDocweddle 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent presentation. Very clear and detailed step by step. Video was all shot very close up and it was easy to see the detail and how the technician took the pieces apart, removed the links and exactly how he put the U-pins back into the ends and reattached the ends. I shortened my expansion band exactly and perfectly. It took about one and 1/2 hours. Due to my age and bad vision, but it worked out great!

    I found it much easier to insert the u-clips when I hold them in a 5" hemostat, a useful tool for small work available online for around $5. It's originally a surgeons' tool, but they're widely used in repairing electronics, for example.

    Thank you! i got a watch today for my birthday, and i have very small almost child sized wrists. So unless i want to go around sporting my daughter's dora watch, i have to do adjustments to whatever watch i get. My father used to always do it for me, but after he passed i gave up wearing them. This was simple enough that even after party drinks, i was able to make my watch fit my tiny ass wrists. even better is, it was with minimal injuries from using a knife after said drinks XD. I thank you for the helpful tutorial.

      ass isn't a cuss word .... imo and others... context matters, calling someone a ass, k i agree, but referring to anything else i disagree
      also inventing a&% i 100% have to say someone have use that exact quote in word sense before... im wooshing in some some sense but im not sober, and just was wondering if i can size my great grandpa's watch to me... he passed, then my grandpa passed.. and i wanna continue the watch legacy... it's so old i can't even find the model online.. it's a cheap watch brand and i looked and looked and can't find it...

    4 Hours later - I finally devised a method - get to the final stage and cut insulating tape to less than the width of the strap and stick it both outside and inside to hold the links in place whilst fitting the clips - still extremely fiddly but finally got it back together - give the clip half a chance and off it goes and hides in the most inaccessible place it can find.

    Thanks for this tutorial. My wife is now wearing her grandfather's watch. I might be missing something, but it seems like it should only be necessary to remove 2 U-clips to separate the band, not 6.

  • @AffordBindEquipment

    it helps to work under a magnifier and 5" forceps are a must. those little U clips just don't stay put with tweezers. the forceps lock onto the clip and makes this job a LOT easier.

    If the band is re-attached using just one u-clip on each side, it should come apart by removing just one u-clip and not three. Seems like twice as many tabs are bent open and 3 times as many u-clips are removed than are actually needed for each dis-assembly step.

    This is way harder than the video makes it appear. There are many types of flex bracelets ("bands"). Unless the watch industry can identify the different types by some special name or term, no way an individual can know if hiss bracelet will come apart like the one in this video.
