At today's card show, I explored whether being a sports card influencer impacts dealer pricing 🤔. Testing different approaches at the sports cards tables revealed some insights into how dealers adjust their prices, and go off certain percentages.

Cards sell them self for like over a hundred years. Influencers need the hobby, the hobby doesn’t need them. I’ve been collecting off and on for 35 years. Influencers/breakers are a contributing to the overpriced water down products. Breakers have replaced the middle class kid collectors.
Influences have definitely drawn attention the hobby.
At the same time the heavy focus on flipping verse collecting isn't great for the hobby longterm.
Just enjoy what you enjoy.

I am sure I heard that with Jordans, LeBrons, pretty much everyone who went up in price. Flipping is great if you know the guy is gonna get hurt or start playing bad:) Sounds like everyone that sold Apple when they doubled their money now regret it.

Thanks for your video about influencers in the hobby ruining the hobby. I think that GREED is ruining the hobby. Everyone is greedy and trying to make bank on a fun hobby. I have never bought a card from an influencer and on principle I will not do so.

I think influencers are great for the hobby. But with that said, I do believe they get a better deal than use because they have a relationship with the buyer and they are on camera. You should have a random person with a camera man and see what deal they get.
Influencers are paid actors for the companies. They send them loaded boxes to get sales out the gate ...these influencers hitting 1/1 like it's cool and big name autos . Yet in 2 years I can't hit anything but a no name auto or a /499

To a certain extent, yes. But, they are just being used as a greedy supply process by some of the card companies to generate excitement. I am not saying all of these people are bad, they are entertaining people.
Of course they are ruining the hobby.Bob, the Card Collector is always getting all the Wembys, and every box he opens is jammed with the best cards you can get, even worse, is Packman, who constantly gets one of ones.In his videos, today, he bragged that out of his last 6 boxes, of a certain brand, he received 5 one of one cards.How the hell are we going to get any good cards when these guys are having them given to them, to boost sales??? Those of us with a brain can see, especially with one of one's, and Wembies, that this is rigged.Ive been collecting since 1976, and have only gotten one 1/1 card ever, and I have been buying packs all year, and have only gotten 2 Wembies.I don't buy boxes of cards, but I do buy at least 10 packs a week.

breakers and psa are ruining the hobby, cards should only be authenticated , not graded
Some influencers have disappeared because they did not love the hobby or collect. They were just trying to hustle and some lost big. The ones that actually embrace the hobby do better. I have transitioned mostly to Pokemon and that collector base is far different. I watch lots of POV videos and the vendors overall love their cards and are looking to fill collection hole. They buy significantly more than sportscard vendors. Sports lacks enthusiasm because it is centered around third players. When those players fail it cost a lot of novice flippers money. There is no chance for Charizard to have a bad year and Umbreon is just chilling in front of the moon going up. /

@mojo - I enjoy watching the content, so thank you for what you do. That said, anyone should make their own call when spending their hard earned money, getting advice online is a mirage…. Sage advice that I live by…. Collect what u love. This hobby is awesome, brought me so close with my dad!

I mean, why have the dude super low ball these vendors? Of course at the low ball offers hes throwing out, these guys are going to say no. Try this. Offer a $$ amount for a card and walk away regardless of answer, and have your buddy walk up and offer the same $$ amount or close to it and see what happens? Then compare the success rate of both of you as to which vendor agreed to the price suggested.

@@mojo_sports Okay, but having him bid unrealistically is not going to draw a fair comparison :/ You aren't new to the hobby and could have at least set him up for success and not have him low ball these guys to the point where they want to walk away from him in anger or disbelief. Again, I want to see you put in a same $$ amount offer to these guys that he did for the same card and see which vendor sells to whom. Because I do think they would bend their profit margin for you if it meant social media exposure.

The problem is influencer think they are entitled to get better deals because they are for the hobby when all ther really in it for is the $$ let's be real and to help ther business they think by giving away a 3to5 dollar pack of cards they are really helping ppl
