- Scientists searching for signs of intelligent life in outer space say the discovery of possible "Dyson spheres" would suggest humans are not the only advanced species in the universe. No such advanced megastructures have yet been discovered, but researchers have identified at least seven stars that could be candidates for such a discovery. Michio Kaku, a globally renowned theoretical physicist and author of "Quantum Supremacy," joins NewsNation's "Dan Abrams Live" to discuss.

If “Zero Point Energy” exists, a Dyson Sphere would be unnecessary. Us humans have a hard time imagining anything without an anthropomorphic point of view. Dyson Spheres are a human idea.
And not a good one
You are correct that a civilization that can access zero point energy would not need to build a Dyson sphere/swarm to collect energy. However, they might still need one to radiate away excess heat. A civilization that could access millions of times the energy available to humanity would likely still be bound by the laws of thermodynamics. If they can access energy to do work, it will eventually have to be radiated away as waste heat. The only way to do so, as far as human knowledge is concerned, is to radiate it into space. This would produce the same heat signature as a conventionally imagined Dyson sphere/swarm. I must admit, accessing zero point energy is far beyond human reach today, so I can't speak to what such an advanced civilization could and would do with such a thing. It may be that there is some far off discovery that makes it possible to use even 'waste heat' as useful energy, which would keep it being radiated away. However, this is not a certainty, any more than zero point energy is a certainty. So, at this point, we can't rule out the idea that there are civilizations with more advanced sources of energy than we have, but that they still have the need to radiate away their waste heat by conventional means. It's possible that there is some workaround to this, but we can't assume that it is possible to violate the laws of thermodynamics any more than we can assume that zero point energy exists, and that we can build machines to exploit it.
Just hinting using a known word.

The thing is this... And i have no doubt dyson sphere-like megastructures exist out there.
IF these are built primarily for energy generation, then we should be very depressed.
Because that means exotic stuff like black-hole harvesting or zero-point energy is so difficult not even type 2-3 civilizations are doing it (yet).
And then you can pretty much kiss warp-drive and worm-hole stargates goodbye as a concept..
IF they are however built for OTHER purposed, like pure overkill surface area for nature preserves or luxury "housing" for an entire civilization, then we can be less depressed, becuase that means exotic energy and tech is "easy" enough that it CAN be achieved by an advanced civilization, to the point were they can afford to build dyson spheres just for "leasure".
Or, they are built as Matrioshka Brains, enormous orbital computers.
In that case, the simulation theory people will go nuts, until they realize we probably still are in base reality, since we CAN build matrioshka brains at all to begin with.
My money would be on zero point generators making Dyson sphere's unnecessary. Zero point energy generation is also, (Theoretically), about the only way to meet the power requirements for FTL interstellar travel.
60? Probably something we’re not aware of. Didn’t Webb just discovered 6 odd galaxies?
no i know it was way more than that. but there are like 6 that seem to have very few other explanations. could have changed by now though idk
Sounds cool and all. But scientists also dont mention how massive these structures would need to actually be. Larger than any planet in our solar system. Much larger.
With all unexplainable UAP sightings, this is very possible.
Aren’t some of these stars the wrong age for alternative explanations

“A hypothetical alien made planet sized structure, that surrounds a star.”
“Power emitting Dyson sphere…” they literally absorb radiation. The infrared emissions they discuss is the point here, is a byproduct, he calls it a leak even. These things collect power if they exist.

We have only ever been close to one star. Thinking we know what is "normal" is pretty hilarious.
We do actually, light, radiation and physics don't magically change from one star system to another.
Anyone still wondering if we’re alone hasn’t been paying attention.
“Dyson spheres are probably common dust clouds” lmao
Dyson sphere may as well be real as it is the very next logical step in energy capture if you’re extremely advanced.
Dyson Sphere, this doesn't make a damn bitter sense! It's utterly childish.🤔
Planet-sized, yet it surrounds a star? lol
Just pointing out that Dyson himself didn't think it would be an actual solid sphere.
He later clarified that he did not have in mind a solid structure, saying: "A solid shell or ring surrounding a star is mechanically impossible. The form of 'biosphere' which I envisaged consists of a loose collection or swarm of objects traveling on independent orbits around the star".
How is this surprising to anyone? Earth is a speck on a gnats ass in the universe.

If a civilization had the technology to build such a structure, they would have found some other method to meet their power needs. They would certainly be s space faring civilization. The amount of raw material to partially encase a sun is staggering. For example 1.3 million Earths can fit inside our Sun. Gathering, refining and assembling that much material into a livable habitat sounds a bit ridiculous. Where are they getting water or what other live sustaining resource they require to exist? The amount of shielding to block the radiation for sun would be astronomical. If they have the ability to encase a sun, they would be capable of far greater things. If your home planet was that crowded, blocking out that much sunlight would kill everyone on the home planet. No more over population problem. I could think of lots of cool ideas, that does not mean they are possible or practical.

Dyson spheres are unrealistic when you consider the energy required to manufacture and harvest the materials required to build one. There would also be gravitational consequences for the solar system.
What about a Dyson sphere under construction? Could that possibly show some signs over a period of time...Like... A glow that gradually grows dim from one side? 🤔

"planet-sized structure, built around a star" that would be one really big planet. I think a quick refresher in basic astronomy might be in order.
The amount or resouces it would take to do this around our star, which is small, makes this statically improbable.
