    This is actually a Brinsley Schwarz group recording and not just Nick Lowe as this mistakenly implies I know I (Ian Gomm) played guitar, sang on it and arranged the harmony vocals and Dave Edmunds produced it!

    This is Nick Lowe's song. Nick's version is sweet and simple, unlike any of the covers. Plus, it's the only version that delivers on the harmony.

      You're incorrect. People got hip to Nick right from jump street. Whether solo, with Rockpile or Dave Edmunds, Nick gave
      all and we went along for a great ride. "New Wave" ran it's course and Nick kept moving forward.

    Has anyone noticed that the main riff sounds like Baba O'Riley from Who's Next released in 1971, three years before Brinsley Schwarz in 1974? The Elvis Costello version has a slightly different riff with more notes which is why I never noticed the similarity. Still a great song which resonates today.

      @John Hemlock Not at all, Huey Lewis & The News are a great bar band- that's actually worked with Nick Lowe (the Rockpile guys basically) on more occasions than I can count.
      Their 'pop-ier' hits in the 80s overshadow what a tight and great live band they were, as well as their roots (R&B, Memphis Soul, country, 60s Doo-Wop and early Rock & Roll to name a few) which are present in lesser known songs of theirs.

  • @stevesymmons3460
    @stevesymmons3460 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The original New Favourites of Brinsley Schwarz version (produced by Dave Edmonds, I recall) was a mickey-take ("We must have Luuurrrve, more Peace and Luuurrrrrve..."); but as subsequent versions have surfaced over the intervening decades Nick Lowe appears to have been considering the possibility that he was - unconsciously - having a genuine moment of introspection when he threw down the words.

None of them suck because it's such a killer song, but go back and listen to Elvis one more time. Turn it up and feel the rebellion.
