I'm honestly really in love with these more contemporary minded and knowledgeable characters. They're all criminals, right? And thus are not your standard Imperium dick-sleeves that don't question anything (Besides the Zealots and there's more than quite a few hints about them not being as pious as they claim to be.) Plus now they likely have some minor degree of access to inquisitorial archives, and are being expressly trained by the Inquisition. Have to question what Grendyl is on the Radical or Puritan personality spectrum, and whether this is deliberate writing to make him seem more Radical by the fact that he's educating his non-conformist fighting force about the dangers of the galaxy. Dan Abnett generally writes characters like these anyways, so it's not much of a shock if they're mimicking his stylings (he did write the lore, after all,) but I've seen a few hardcore fans complain about how the characters know way more than they should for average citizens/soldiers. I think the point is that they _aren't_ the average citizen or soldier, they're people who manipulated, got caught up in, or actively opposed the system.
And I mean, the things they know are on the scale of 'things a guardsman would kind-of know' as the Veterans usually bring up lore stuff, and all Veterans are former Guardsmen. Like about Cadia falling, especially as the Guardsman in question can be *from* Cadia, Guilliman and the Indomitus Crusade being a thing, the Cicatrix Maledictum existing (which Morrow has to confirm and even then they don't seem to get it quite), Eldar and Greenskins being a thing, as they might even have shot at them on deployment because Guardsman, Spess Marines and Battle Sisters existing and that a Penitent Engine exists (but not knowing what one *is* probably), Emprah's on Terra on the Golden Throne which is a big machine that does psyker-magic with human sacrifices, basically. None of these are particular lore-breaking for a Veteran guardsman in an Inquisitor's employ to know about. I'd think most Imperial citizens with access to decent resources are probably aware of Space Marines, the Sisters, Terra, Cadia falling and Guilliman being back because that was big news and so on.

If there's one thing I acknowledge; its the fact these guys know this fight is hopeless. Atoma may be a vital point in the Imperium but until Traitor Astartes show up; its going to be the guard and the rejects alone who have to make their stands. No traitor Astartes; no quick liberation for Atoma, because traitor astartes would call for more serious response from the Imperium besides calling in guardsmen and prisoners to do the lifting. The bulk of the dialog is pretty funny and some of it is kind of sad or terrifying... like dude... do you know what a Penitent Engine is? If you lived long enough to gaze upon Sisters of Battle and the ranks of these crucified traitors; you'd know that you really REALLY don't want to know what they are capable of (Played Dawn of War; Penitent Engines are OP)
The situation on Atoma is really bad when you really get down to it. We know that a whole hive has fallen. The soldiers holding the line aren't Grendyl's warband its an off world guard unit by their insignia's. All they can do is hold choke points and contain for now while the heretics taint the hive and have their way. They will eventually over run this hive too since they had the numbers to take one already. Also isn't Atoma the second world of this area? Didn't the capital world fall?

The main problem is that Atoma is literally on its own and unless traitor astartes are reported then no help will come. Its quite sad really... Sisters of battle can be found in a lot of places at the local garrison level tho, penitent engines less so. Main issue is that the guard *was* sent. It's just they immediately turned coat.

Well it makes sense They called Nurgle a Demon and not a god thus they know demons exist but not the Chaos Gods as there has been a few dialogues lines doubting that the Chaos God's Actually exist but are Just really Strong Demons. Also since they are apart of Inquisition basic understanding of Warp and Warp Entities are a must for any Agent.

veteran is my fav and main class but the fact that they are so meningless in the lore makes me not want to play them lol. at least ogryns have more meaning and onthe battlefield mean something lol, closer to a space marine than a veteran
Ech, Ogryn’s are tougher but Veterans are arguably more significant and dangerous once they reach the later parts of their service. Battlefield smarts and a good aim with a dangerous weapon are worth a lot. Given the group they’re in, Vets are almost certainly the ones with the most useful practical knowledge of how to survive, whilst the psykers know more about the esoteric, the Ogryns are dumb and the Zealots are actively scared of learning.

veteran is my fav and main class but the fact that they are so meningless in the lore makes me not want to play them lol. at least ogryns have more meaning and onthe battlefield mean something lol, closer to a space marine than a veteran
Ech, Ogryn’s are tougher but Veterans are arguably more significant and dangerous once they reach the later parts of their service. Battlefield smarts and a good aim with a dangerous weapon are worth a lot. Given the group they’re in, Vets are almost certainly the ones with the most useful practical knowledge of how to survive, whilst the psykers know more about the esoteric, the Ogryns are dumb and the Zealots are actively scared of learning.
