    Amazing Video!
I also upgraded my 924 with a bigger 944 rear spoiler.

Thanks Julian. I might be covering this car in the future, so this is good to know.

@@uh3what Ugh - someone else did a 924 video, so I've put that one on hold for now.

It's funny when you compare it to other period cars, the top speed significantly higher than similarly powered(or more powerful like an e21 bmw 323)competitors. It also had a front undertray as standard, which wasn't that common back then. I think the books state that the cd was 0.34 with the rear spoiler on. There are some interesting variants made from an aero perspective , like the world record car (a project that was abandoned) , with had some interesting aero studies as can be seen in factory pics, CD at 0.268. But also the Carrera Gt version which actually made production had some significant aero improvements. My 924 turbo has the 944 spoiler and its rock stable close to top speed, though ive started designing a fairly large undertray and some other fixes to improve the track performance a bit, and mostly because its fun :)

Yes, in cars of a similar projected frontal area, top speed vs power is a very good indicator of drag.

    Really interesting- thanks Julian!

Surprised me the drag is reduced by the spoiler as from the original wind tunnel photo it looked as though the spoiler might increase the height of the turbulent wake behind the car, by interfering with the air flowing off the bottom of the tailgate. What was the Cd of the spoilered car?

Cd = 0.36 in std form; Cd = 0.34 in Turbo form with rear spoiler. The idea of the increased area of wake vs increased area of higher pressure on rear sloping panels is covered here th-cam.com/video/QwSHo8UPDsQ/w-d-xo.html
