It's kinda cool that Steve has the option to be resourceful with his iron-using moves. He can not only mine his own anvil for iron gain, but can also break his own minecart to gain the iron back from it.
Show this to everyone saying that Sakurai doesn't care about his game anymore. He didn't need to make the mining so detailed, yet he did it anyway to make the character more polished.
@Gaming Fan Rio Inkling it wasn't compassion. The bulborb simply knows that the benefit of a nose cleaning far outweighs the benefit of a small snack. Were the pygmy miner unhelpful, the bulborb would eat it.
Very cool how some stages change dirt to a different material. Love when a game puts in these tiny tidbits that barely anyone will notice for the people who look at every nook and cranny for different graphics or other.
Steve is able to mine the ground on spirit tracks, he is on the ground long enough for the mining animation to start, but keeps getting pushed upwards a little bit by the train. You can see this by the circle that show up on Steve's feet. I believe this is just an oversight showing that the game never expects that people would stand there, especially when you are normally supposed to be hit by the train
Also, I assume that the ice in mario maker uses the pickaxe because that is what Steve mines ice with (see iceberg) and it gives dirt/uses the dirt sound effect because dirt is the junk material given from the stage, since only one junk material can be in each stage
It’s possible that there may actually a material built into the Spirit Train tracks, but Steve simply can’t mine it due to the speed it goes by. It may just be too fast for him to actually mine anything
This is what I'm thinking. All other moving ground still has him standing still. But the train tracks actually moves him. So the SNES Mute City stage doesn't move him as the track moves along, so he can mine it. - I want a test to be done on a different track like Port Town Aero Dive or Big Blue, where the track is moving sideways and actually move him along. Have him mine the track as he's pushed along the track by something.
Other than the few iffy and glitch parts. I like how they part in mostly the correct stuff even on the random things like the gift boxes. 👍 No wonder they took long to work on bring him.
Of course Steve crashes Smash when mining on curved surfaces. There's no such thing as a round object in his world, therefore the universe crashes by him obtaining such a thing.
I think the first part with the Spirit Track's stage is because the stage is moving faster than the blocks can be mined. You mine in one spot, which moves under the train, so you start mining the next spot without getting mroe.
The rotating platform one is likely because the game gets stuck trying to perform two mining actions at once-wall mining and ground mining. Usually one overrides the other, but in this case it likely gets caught at a crossroads where it needs to switch behaviors in a manner it can’t handle, gets stuck in the code, and then the switch’s external error-handler aborts to prevent a freeze
@@Geneolgia Now that I've tested it, it seems to be kind of glitch. Usually it's stone, but for some glitchy reason in a stage morph it switches to sand. I'm still not sure if that's the reason though, it's kind of finicky.
The entire stage of Norfair gives Iron, except the doors to the secure area give Dirt. The entire stage of Paper Mario gives wood, except the temporary ground that shows up during a transition gives Dirt. At the very beginning of Wuhu Island, if you're invincible, you can briefly stand on some invisible ground under the ocean water and mine Dirt.
Love how no ones talking about how game breaking it is that tnt gives you THAT much iron. For something that costs very little DIRT to get iron is crazy, makes iron management impossible to stop.
I don't think the rails on the Spirit Train stage are specificalle programmed to not give any material. I think the ground just moves by so fast that Steve can't mine long enough to break through.
the only thing that doesn't make sense here is how steve manages to put sand in the air without it falling, and also how he manages to put blocks in the air without putting other blocks down
Sakurai took some liberties to keep him balanced. if he were canon he would take way longer to get resources, the aforementioned sand thing, be limited to placing blocks near stage geometry, and would have Turbo and twice as much reach as he does right now.
